Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B announced Monday (Aug. 11) that she’ll drop “Imaginary Players” this Friday (Aug. 15). “Just a lil taste of the drama. IMAGINARY PLAYERS THIS FRIDAY,” she teased on Instagram, posting a photo of herself in a matching white fur coat and Rolls Royce, rocking pastel pink hair.
The new track arrives just two months after “Outside,” her summer hit that climbed to No. 1 on both Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay and Rap Airplay charts earlier this month. “Outside” also debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July, marking Cardi’s 13th top 10 single.
Part of Am I the Drama? Era
“Imaginary Players” will join “Outside” on Cardi’s upcoming sophomore album Am I the Drama?, due Sept. 19 via Atlantic Records. The project will also feature her chart-toppers “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion and “Up” — a choice Cardi defended to fans on X.
“This will be the last and only time I’m gonna address this,” she wrote. “WAP and Up are two of my biggest songs, my fans have been asking me to put them on an album, and people search for them on IOP all the time… they deserve a home.”
Seven Years in the Making
Am I the Drama? comes seven years after Cardi’s debut album Invasion of Privacy, which topped the Billboard 200 in 2018, won the Grammy for best rap album in 2019, and made RIAA history in 2022 when all 13 tracks were certified platinum or higher.
With “Imaginary Players” dropping this week, the countdown is officially on for Cardi’s return — and if her recent hits are any indication, she’s about to dominate the charts all over again.
