Billionaire media mogul David Geffen, 82, has reportedly filed for divorce from his husband, David Armstrong — better known by his social media moniker Donovan Michaels — after two years of marriage. The split, first reported by TMZ, cites the ever-classic “irreconcilable differences.”

But the real headline? There was no prenup.

From Superyacht Selfies to Splitsville

Geffen and Armstrong, 32, have kept their relationship largely under wraps — with the rare exception of their glamorous cameos together aboard Geffen’s $400 million superyacht. According to The New York Post, the couple met in 2020 when Armstrong worked as Geffen’s personal trainer. The rest, as they say, is history. Or in this case, legal paperwork.

The pair’s quiet romance became Instagram official during one of their high-seas escapades, but little else was made public. And while their wedding date remains hazy, they were spotted arriving together at a New York City heliport in 2023, fueling marriage rumors that now seem to be confirmed by the divorce filing.

A Legacy in Music, Film, and Media

David Lawrence Geffen (born February 21, 1943) is a pioneer in American entertainment. In music, he co-founded Asylum Records in 1971 with Elliot Roberts, launched Geffen Records in 1980, and later created DGC Records in 1990. He continued shaping the industry by co-founding DreamWorks Records in 1996 alongside Mo Ostin, Michael Ostin, and Lenny Waronker.

Geffen also made waves in film, founding the Geffen Film Company in 1982, and later teaming up with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg to launch DreamWorks SKG in 1994. With a net worth estimated at over $9 billion, he remains one of the most influential figures in entertainment history.

Love, Labels, and a Curious Past

Armstrong, who once used the alias Donovan Michaels online, has his own curious public profile. His now-dormant Instagram account (@donovan_michaels) hasn’t been updated since 2018, yet still boasts more than 14,000 followers.

A 2023 New York Post interview with one of Armstrong’s alleged ex-girlfriends revealed that he had previously dated women — and that she wasn’t surprised by his eventual marriage to Geffen. “He’s very attractive,” she noted. “He was always getting comments from gay men online.”

No Prenup, No Problem?

One eyebrow-raising detail from the divorce: there was no prenuptial agreement between Geffen and Armstrong. While that might sound like a jackpot scenario for Armstrong, TMZ reports that California law may not work entirely in his favor.

Because Geffen’s vast fortune — estimated at over $9 billion — is reportedly tied up in stocks and other equities, Armstrong may have limited legal claim to that wealth. California law generally considers such investments separate property unless specifically commingled.

As it stands, Armstrong could receive spousal support for half the duration of their brief marriage — but not a slice of the billionaire pie.

Billionaire, Still Private

Despite his public legacy, Geffen continues to keep a low profile online. His Instagram (@davidgeffen) is verified but private, followed by just over 111,000 users.

Armstrong’s own social presence is far more minimal. With a largely inactive and unverified Instagram, it appears his post-Geffen digital footprint is just as elusive as his pre-Geffen one.

Whether this is the end of a whirlwind romance or just another chapter in Geffen’s storied life, one thing is clear: Billionaire breakups are rarely boring.
