The 37-year-old actor, who earlier this month was named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive, has officially become 2025’s highest-grossing box office star, thanks to back-to-back blockbuster performances in Wicked: For Good and Jurassic World: Rebirth.
According to Fiction Horizon, Bailey clinched the top spot after Wicked: For Good opened to an impressive $150 million domestically and $226 million worldwide in its first weekend. The musical sequel, directed by Jon M. Chu, continues the story of Elphaba and Glinda while centering Bailey’s character, Fiyero, a role that has quickly become a fan favorite among queer audiences and Broadway lovers alike.
That success came on the heels of Jurassic World: Rebirth, which surged to $339.6 million domestically and $868.8 million worldwide after its July release. Bailey stars as paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis opposite Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali in a tale that pushes the franchise into darker, more sci-fi territory with its island of mutated dinosaurs.
Only A Minecraft Movie, Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch, and China’s animated hit Ne Zha 2 have surpassed Rebirth globally this year. On the domestic front, Superman sits slightly ahead of the dinosaur epic’s earnings.

Absurd or not, the accolade resonated, especially within the LGBTQ+ community that has embraced Bailey since his breakout Bridgerton role. Bowen Yang, who appears with Bailey in Wicked, joked that the congratulatory group text “exploded” when the cover dropped. Fans on social media echoed that enthusiasm, praising Bailey not only for the smolder, which he joked about himself, but for representing queer visibility on a massive Hollywood scale.
A Star Taking His Time and Giving It Back
Despite this banner year, Bailey has also been candid about the importance of stepping away from the spotlight. In September, he told British GQ he hoped to take time off to focus on The Shameless Fund, his charity supporting LGBTQ+ causes. He later clarified to Esquire U.K. that he won’t disappear entirely in 2026, though audiences shouldn’t expect to see him in new film or TV roles next year.
Still, there’s good news for Bridgerton fans: Bailey is expected to reprise his role as Anthony Bridgerton when the Netflix phenomenon returns in January.
