Who is Hunter Schafer Playing in the New ‘Hunger Games’ Movie?

Euphoria star Hunter Schafer is joining the Hunger Games franchise.

Welcome to the 10th Annual Hunger Games!

That’s right, the games are back. In a new film from Francis Lawrence and Lionsgate, a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) feels responsible for saving his failing lineage in the post-war Capitol. But when he is partnered with a tribute from District 12, he worries he may have bit off more than he can chew. Still, Coriolanus teams up with Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) to attempt to turn the odds in their favor.

The film is a prequel to the popular franchise and takes place before Coriolanus becomes the tyrannical president of Panem. And about 64 years before, he watches as Katniss and Peeta win the 74th games; a spark that would ignite a new wave of rebellion. In addition to Blythe and Zegler, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will also star Viola Davis, Game of Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage, and trans actress Hunter Schafer.

Hunter Schafer as Tigris Snow

Schafer made her acting debut in 2019 when she played Jules Vaughn in HBO Max‘s original drama, Euphoria. Though season four of the series is still making its way to our small screens, the actress is gearing up for her first theatrical release. Schafer will play Tigris Snow, the cousin, and confidante of Coriolanus. Fans of the book series by Suzanne Collins may remember her as a stylist for the Games who ultimately helps the rebel group take down Snow.

Lionsgate dropped a trailer for the new chapter filled with nods to the original films that captured our hearts. Watch for Lucy’s bow and the introduction of Snow’s obsession with white roses.

Tigris is only in the trailer for a fleeting moment, but she has a significant role in the book, so we are hopeful she will have more screen time soon.

You can see Schafer in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in theaters on November 17, 2023.
