It’s award season, baby!
Has the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Series Been Canceled?
Here is why many people believe the Fantastic Beasts franchise is canceled and will not return with a fourth or fifth movie.
Initially teased as a five-part series Fantastic Beasts tells a prequel story to the Harry Potter franchise. Warner Bros. released a new installment every two years since 2016, but there is doubt surrounding the fate of a fourth film. Eddie Redmayne, who plays the famed Magizoologist Newt Scamander in the films, recently told IndieWire that he had yet to be approached about a fourth film.
“I don’t. It’s more a question for J.K. Rowling and David Yates and Warners, but I don’t know, I’m afraid. I can’t add to that.”

Then, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav commented during a company meeting about the future of Harry Potter films which confused some fans. Zaslav clarified that the company plans to focus its upcoming projects on profitable franchises but added, “we haven’t done a Harry Potter movie in 15 years.”
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore hit theaters in April of 2022. It became the lowest-grossing movie in the franchise. While it’s unclear what Zaslav meant by this comment, fans of the franchise are not taking it as a good sign. Some speculate that Fantastic Beasts may be canceled entirely.

Controversy Surrounding Fantastic Beasts
The lack of production updates comes amidst several controversial headlines surrounding the project. J.K. Rowling has continued to share anti-trans rhetoric online and has lost the devotion of many Harry Potter fans. Meanwhile, Fantastic Beasts star Ezra Miller is facing multiple legal issues, and he currently faces up to 26 years in prison if convicted of burglary in Vermont. And Johnny Depp was not in the third installment because of domestic violence accusations.
All this is to say, we don’t know if the fourth installment of Fantastic Beasts will become a reality. There are no signs of future production, and with so many high-profile controversies, we don’t know what it would look like.

There is no current update on Fantastic Beasts 4. Eddie Redmayne said he had not been asked to return as Newt Scamander. J.K. Rowling initially said the franchise would release five movies in total.
Yes, it is a spin-off series inspired by the magical world J.K. Rowling created and is a prequel story to the Harry Potter books.
Yes, J.K. Rowling confirmed the sexuality of Dumbledore in 2007 while speaking at Carnegie Hall. She also revealed his romance with his former best friend, Gellert Grindelwald, a storyline that plays out in the third Fantastic Beasts movie.

Lindsay Lohan is back in the rom-com game with a new holiday movie, Falling for Christmas, coming to Netflix.
Candace Cameron Bure Left Hallmark For Homophobic Reasons
When The Christmas House came to Hallmark in 2020 it was the first film in the network’s history to prominently feature a same-sex couple. Jonathan Bennett and Brad Harder helped to ring in a new era for Hallmark. That very same year Lifetime also had a strong showing for LGBTQ+ content with movies like The Christmas Setup. Late to the game as they may be, it inspires some confidence to know that a network generally marketed toward a more conservative audience could be open to change. However, this progress did not come without some fumbles. Among those include the exit of Crown Media ex-CEO Bill Abbott. The reason for his, and Hallmark movie regular Candace Cameron Bure’s exit may, at least in part, be homophobic.

Why Did Bill Abbott Leave Hallmark?
Before we explore the latest from Bure, let’s go over some context. Before the release of The Christmas House, Hallmark made headlines when they removed advertisements featuring same-sex couples from the air. The advertisement itself was totally innocuous, and the network faced widespread criticism as a result. Hallmark apologized and restored the ad a few days later, but the damage had been done. A little more than a month later Abbott stepped down as CEO of Crown Media.
Abbott Joins Great American Media
Just over a year later Abbot partnered with Hicks Equity Partners to head up a new venture Great American Media (GAC Media at the time). The Texas-based media company went on to launch new cable networks, among them Great American Family. The expectation is that Great American Media will continue to focus on faith programming and “family entertainment.” Chances are LGBTQ+ readers can already hear the dog whistles. The series of events that led to this is important to remember when we talk about Candace Cameron Bure’s involvement.
View this post on Instagram
Why Did Candace Cameron Bure Leave Hallmark?
All of this takes us to Candace Cameron Bure. Those who are familiar with Hallmark Channel will certainly recognize Bure as a mainstay in the network’s holiday programming. The 46-year-old actress ended her partnership with the network in April of this year. At the same time, she revealed plans to join Great American Family. Bure is famously conservative, not unlike her brother who is an evangelist that famously spoke out against homosexuality in 2012. Bure’s departure from the network sparked rumors that it was due to Hallmark’s new queer-friendly programming.
Related | Hallmark Finally Has a Leading Gay Couple in a Holiday Movie
This was mostly speculation and Bure herself initially explained that the decision ultimately came down contracts. “The truth is I’ve been under contract with Hallmark for a very, very long time,” said Bure. “It just so happened that my contract was expiring when Great American Family started up.” She later added that her discussions with Great American Family didn’t start until she was already “well into negotiations” with Hallmark Channel. There appeared to be more to it however, with Candace saying that Great American Family fits her brand perfectly. “We share a vision of creating compelling wholesome content for an audience who wants to watch programming for and with the whole family.”
Is Candace Cameron Bure Homophobic?
New information came to light recently as Bure began promoting her upcoming movie on Great American Family. In an interview with WSJ, Bure spoke about her new executive role at the company as well more context surrounding her departure from Hallmark Channel. “My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them,” said Bure. “I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment.”
View this post on Instagram
She also added that Hallmark is “basically is a completely different network” than when she started because of the change of leadership. If this wasn’t direct enough, Bure sited the same-sex relationships featured on the network as part of that reasoning. “I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core,” she said. No matter what you think of Candace Cameron Bure, these comments have clear homophobic undertones.
What Does This Mean For Great American Family?
Candace was previously more cagey about her thoughts on this matter. When asked if Great American Family will include same-sex and interracial couples Bure said they hadn’t “specifically had those discussions.” She added that it isn’t completely up to her, saying “You know, we’ll see. We’ll see how it goes.” Meanwhile, Abbott has this to say about the inclusion of same-sex couples in the network: “It’s certainly the year 2022, so we’re aware of the trends. There’s no whiteboard that says, ‘Yes, this’ or ‘No, we’ll never go here.'”
We feel it’s important to add a caveat here. While LGBTQ+ content is more accepted in the mainstream than it was a decade ago, we are not the “trend” Abbott seems to think we are. We are human being with relationships as beautfil and flawed and complex as our cis and straight counterparts.
Hilarie Burton Speaks Out
It seems we weren’t the only ones to notice the inherent homophobia in Bure’s statements. One Tree Hill actress Hilarie Burton has spoken out in the past about Abbott and was equally vocal in her response to Bure. Burton took to Twitter to respond to speak out against Bure’s homophobia, calling her a bigot. “I don’t remember Jesus liking hypocrites like Candy,” Burton added. “But sure. Make your money, honey. You ride that prejudice wave all the way to the bank.”
Bigot.
I don’t remember Jesus liking hypocrites like Candy.
But sure. Make your money, honey. You ride that prejudice wave all the way to the bank. https://t.co/X70aO4WIcB— Hilarie Burton Morgan (@HilarieBurton) November 15, 2022
Burton, who appeared in the 2007 Lifetime drama Normal Adolescent Behavior, had more to say about Bure, Abbott, and GAC. “Now they’re just openly admitting their bigotry,” said Burton. “I called this shit out years ago when Abbott was at Hallmark.” She then added that she’s “glad they dumped him.” In the end, we’re in full agreenent with Burton. “Being LGBTQ isn’t a ‘trend,'” she said. “That guy and his network are disgusting. You too Candy. There is nothing untraditional about same-sex couples.”

Brazilian Pop Star Comes Out; Says His Sexuality Is Open
After weeks of speculation, Brazillian pop star DJ Pedro Sampaio is putting the rumors to bed. The Latin heartthrob opened up in a recent interview with G1 where he addressed the online discourse about his sexuality. In effect, the 24-year-old came out, although he says he doesn’t identify with a particular label. Instead, Sampaio is open and considered his sexuality to be fluid.

Pedro Sampaio Comes Out
Sampaio is no stranger to the pressure that many celebrities face to adopt a label. “I think it’s so backward,” he says. “You are you, do what you want, whenever you want, with whoever you want.” In the end, as Sampaio puts it, “people are always discovering, always changing.” Having said this, when asked directly, Sampaio did confirm that he is open to dating men as well as women.
The rumors about the star’s sexuality have been flying ever since Bi Visibility Day. Sampaio quote tweeted a selfie from bi singer Jão who was pictured in front of a mirror wearing a bi-Pride shirt. The shirt also featured Hannah Montana giving the peace sign, so we’re talking about several layers of bisexuality. Sampaio added three heart emojis in the colors of the bi-Pride flag with the tweet, and the rumors began in earnest.

Is Pedro Sampaio Dating Pabllo Vittar?
This isn’t the only reason the internet has been talking about Sampaio. The star has been spending quite a bit of time with world-famous Brazillian drag queen Pabllo Vittar. The pair are pictured together all over Sampaio’s Instagram, in increasingly cozy circumstances. They even went as far as sharing a kiss on the Brazillian Multishow program Música Boa. Sadly, in the same G1 interview, Sampaio shot down any rumors that they were dating.
Their closeness may instead be a result of their recent project together. The pair released a new duet single called Sal which is available to listen to on Spotify. The video itself is also very queer and a nice break from the dreary winter months up here in the northern hemisphere. This is not Sampaio’s first time working with queer artists either. He has also worked with bisexual singer-songwriters Anitta and Luísa Sonza.

11 LGBTQ Celebrities Who Died in 2022
Some of the greatest minds and talents of all time are, were, or could have been considered a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Our contributions to the arts, sciences, and world politics are impossible to calculate. This is a credit to the people that make up our beautiful community. Like everyone, we lose many great people every year to time and tragedy. Let’s take a moment to mark the LGBTQ+ celebrities and icons who died this year. People who made important contributions in their field or were pillars in their community. Let’s celebrate the departed greats of 2022.
A Note From The Writer
The people we mention here have all achieved some level of notoriety in the media or their local communities. This is not the only mark of greatness queer people should be expected to achieve to be worthy of celebration. Every year we lose important members of local communities and dear loved ones. This is often a result of anti-LGBTQ+ violence or extenuating factors that disproportionately affect queer folks. Particularly trans and gender non-conforming people of color. Before we go any further we’d like to honor their memory. This year, we have lost at least 32 transgender people by violent means. This does not include the deaths that go unreported as many often do.

Shawn Mendes Is Hiking Shirtless Again and We’re Living
Shawn Mendes likes to hike with his shirt off, and we’re not complaining. Now, as we all recover from months of midterms anxiety, Shawn Mendes is back and shirtless. True to form (no pun intended) he is just as shirtless as you might expect.
