Lady Gaga Spills the Tea on Gay Anthem ‘Poker Face’

Lady Gaga has just revealed a fun fact about her iconic hit “Poker Face”—it has a hidden, super gay meaning!

During her Jazz & Piano residency in Las Vegas, the pop superstar sat behind her piano and teased the audience with a revelation. Before launching into the 2008 chart-topping song, Gaga said, “I bet you didn’t know this song was about having sex with men and thinking about women,” sending the crowd into a frenzy. She added with a smirk, “Now that’s my kind of poker face.”

The Lyrics’ Hidden Message

Poker Face has always been a fan favorite with its catchy gambling-themed lyrics. But now, those lines like, “Can’t read my, can’t read my/ No, he can’t read my poker face/ (She’s got me like nobody),” take on a whole new meaning. Gaga encouraged the audience to sing along, cheekily adding, “Come on, sing along, I know you’ve done it” – referring to thinking about women while with men.

Gaga’s Bisexual Anthem

This isn’t the first time Lady Gaga has spoken about the bisexual undertones in Poker Face. In 2009, she told Jonathan Ross she’d “think about women” while “having sex with her boyfriend.” She officially dubbed the song an “ode to bisexuality” in 2021.

Gaga proudly came out as bisexual in 2013. At a release party for her album Artpop, she declared, “You know what? It’s not a lie that I am bisexual and I like women, and anyone that wants to twist this into ‘she says she’s bisexual for marketing,’ this is a f**king lie. This is who I am and who I have always been.”

Gaga’s Recent Highlights

Lady Gaga has been busy not only teasing queer meanings in her songs but also performing at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony. Plus, she’s set to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the highly anticipated Joker sequel, Folie à Deux.

So next time you jam out to Poker Face, remember it’s not just a pop banger – it’s a celebration of bisexuality. Lady Gaga continues to be an icon for the LGBTQ+ community, reminding us all to embrace our true selves, poker face and all!

GLAAD CEO Faces Investigation Over High Spending

0

Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD, is under scrutiny following a New York Times investigation into her spending habits. The report, spearheaded by journalist Emily Steel, claimed Ellis’s expenses may be more extravagant than what is typical for a nonprofit leader.

Extravagant Expenditures

Among the findings, Ellis reportedly spent almost $500,000 renting a seven-bedroom chalet in Switzerland for a week to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos. Additionally, GLAAD covered a $60,000 bill for Ellis and a colleague to attend France’s Cannes Lions advertising summit. Other notable expenses included $18,000 for home renovations, including a new chandelier, and more than 30 first-class flights. All of this was recorded over 18 months.

Questionable Financial Practices

The investigation raised concerns about whether these expenses align with nonprofit standards and IRS regulations. Michael West, a lawyer specializing in nonprofit organizations, commented, “It appears she may have fallen into the trap of excess.”

High Salary Under Scrutiny

Ellis’s salary, which can range from $700,000 to $1.3 million annually, has also come under fire. However, Ferraro clarified, “In practice, it is impossible for Ms. Ellis to receive $1 million in a year, and she has not received anything near that on this contract.” This salary is attributed to Ellis’s role in revitalizing GLAAD, significantly boosting its revenue to $19 million by 2022.

About GLAAD

GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, is a leading nonprofit organization that works to promote LGBTQ acceptance and ensure fair representation in the media. Founded in 1985, GLAAD is committed to changing the narrative about LGBTQ people and issues through advocacy, education, and impactful campaigns. The organization plays a crucial role in holding media accountable and amplifying the voices of the LGBTQ community.

Responding to the Costs

Rich Ferraro, a spokesperson for GLAAD, defended Ellis’s expenditures. He explained that many of these costs were essential for GLAAD’s mission, such as fostering relationships with donors and attending critical events. Ferraro emphasized that a donation from the Ariadne Getty Foundation, a longtime supporter of GLAAD funded the Davos trip.

Ellis herself addressed the controversy, stating, “I take my role as GLAAD’s financial steward incredibly seriously, and we’ll continue updating our procedures to keep pace with the organization’s rapid growth. Our work has never been more urgent because the LGBTQ community is under increasing attack.”

GLAAD Board’s Support

Despite the controversy, GLAAD’s board stands firmly behind Ellis. Liz Jenkins, the board’s chairwoman, expressed unwavering support, stating, “The board and I stand firmly behind Sarah Kate Ellis, with respect and appreciation for how she and her team are leading the movement at a time when our community is under attack. We have full confidence that they’re doing so with integrity and that they share the board’s commitment to irrefutably strong governance and business practices.”

The board had previously commissioned the law firm Sheppard Mullin to investigate the spending concerns, resulting in recommendations for updating travel policies. Following the investigation, GLAAD’s CFO, Emily Plauché, who initially flagged the concerns, left the organization.

Halsey Says She ‘Regrets Coming Back’ Following ‘Lucky’ Backlash

“My own fans are hands down meaner to me than any other people on the planet,” the singer wrote on Tumblr.

Singer-songwriter Halsey isn’t holding back. The three-time Grammy nominee addressed the criticism surrounding her new single Lucky by calling out fans for being “meaner” than anyone else.

On July 26, Halsey dropped Lucky, the first single from their fifth studio album. However, it was not the reaction she was expecting. “My own fans are hands down meaner to me than any other people on the planet. Not speaking for all of you, of course,” she wrote on her Tumblr, tiredandlonelymuse, on July 30.

Halsey continued, “It used to be just a minority that were awful to me and now it seems like a majority have only stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am.” She added, “It’s hard to want to engage in a space that is completely devoid of any kindness, sympathy, patience, or, to be honest, human decency.”

Halsey’s Health Update

In June, Halsey revealed she has been privately dealing with several health issues, including lupus and a rare white-blood-cell disorder. That same month, she shared her struggles in The End, her first solo single in two years, singing, ““Every couple of years now, a doctor says I’m sick / Pulls out a brand new bag of tricks / And then they lay it on me / And at first, it was my brain, then a skeleton in pain.”

“I almost lost my life.” Halsey continued in her Tumblr post, “I am not gonna do anything that doesn’t make me happy anymore. I can’t spiritually afford it. When I got sick, all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of this again, but I don’t even know what this is anymore and I want to crawl in a hole. I regret coming back.”

Britney Spears Responds

Lucky samples Britney Spears’ 2000 hit of the same name, and details Halsey’s battle with illness and her struggles with fame. “I told everybody I was fine for a whole damn year, and that’s the biggest lie of my career,” she sings.

Although Spears gave Halsey permission to use the sample, the Toxic singer initially criticized the music video on social media, saying she felt “harassed, violated, and bullied” by it. However, Spears later retracted her comments, posting, “Fake news. That was not me on my phone. I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it.”

In response, Halsey wrote, “And I love Britney. I always have and always will. You were the first person who ever made me realise what it means to feel inspired. You continue to inspire me every day.”

The lyrics, deeply personal and poignant, tell a story of abandonment and the haunting pain of seeing a loved one everywhere. A Visual Feast

The music video for “Visions” is an immersive journey into Boy Blu’s sci-fi-inspired imagination. Directed by Logan Powaski and choreographed by Jesse Fields, the video features brutalist aesthetics and futuristic, desert-armored clothing with a hint of queer House influence. Blu’s powerful dance performance and the storyline of grappling with past visions make for a compelling watch.

Boy Blu shares, “In Dune: Part Two, the exploration of the Harkonnen world captivated me and the video’s director. We were particularly inspired by the scenes shot in infrared on the Harkonnen planet. For the music video, we started with a black-and-white aesthetic and gradually introduced blue tones to match the song’s increasing energy. Our goal was to intertwine the chaotic, powerful dance with a realistic narrative of feeling abandoned.”

Earlier this summer, Boy Blu released “2 Deadly,” a razor-sharp anthem in collaboration with electro pop artist and producer Gregory Dillon. This track is a fusion of 2010 underground tech house and modern EDM, perfect for fans of high-energy pop. Wayne Brady Talks the Importance of Coming Out & Mental Health

0

Wayne Brady, the charismatic star we all know from Whose Line Is It Anyway? and Let’s Make a Deal, is back with a new show, Wayne Brady: The Family Remix. Premiering on July 24 at 10:00 p.m. EDT on Freeform and available the next day on Hulu, this show promises to peel back the curtain on Brady’s extraordinary life.

The Real Wayne Brady

Brady, the ultimate entertainer, opens up about his journey of coming out as pansexual last year. In August, the Whose Line Is It Anyway? star shared an emotional post full of singing and confetti on TikTok, declaring, “I want to be free to love whomever I want.”

“This truth makes me Pan and part of the LGBTQ+ family. It’s scary as hell to say out loud but here it is. The people I admire the most are the ones brave enough to be themselves unapologetically. This shouldn’t shake anyone’s world, but if it bothers you at all, that’s your business: I was so afraid of having my manhood questioned, but screw that. A ‘real man’ in my eyes, isn’t afraid to be honest and happy. From now on, I’ll be over here living my best life! I love you.”

Brady further elaborates on his decision, emphasizing the importance of living authentically for himself and the broader community. “I don’t think that coming out is a necessity,” he says. “But for me personally, I needed to for my own mental health because if you live with a secret…the mental drain and the unhappiness that you go through, it’s not worth it.

“So I didn’t come out for anybody. I came out for me because I knew that it would allow me to operate in a different way, which would allow me to be mentally healthy.”

Family First

Brady’s unique family dynamic is at the heart of Wayne Brady: The Family Remix. He remains best friends with his ex-wife, best friend, and business partner, Mandie Taketa. Together, they co-parent their 21-year-old daughter, Maile Brady, an aspiring artist and student. Mandie’s life partner since 2009, Jason Fordham, manages the family’s cinematography and post-production, and together they have an almost 3-year-old son, Sundance-Isamu.

Maile shares that her father’s coming out hasn’t changed who he is. “He’s the same person. He is exactly the same,” she says. “If anything, whether correlation equals causation, he is really in this fashion era right now. That’s a bigger difference. But otherwise, he’s the same person.”

Mandie praises Brady’s resilience and talent. “Wayne is a superhero. I feel like he’s just untouchable. He’s the most talented person I’ve ever witnessed in my entire life,” she exclaims, reflecting the admiration and love that surrounds Brady.

Defining Family

Jason’s perspective on family adds depth to the series. “Family is today. I think it’s one of the most radical ideas you can construct and live into,” he says. “It means a safe space where you’re supported and you can sort of really unfold.”

His words emphasize the importance of support and love in a family, especially during transformative times. “With support, we can’t do anything by ourselves…family means the ground to really bloom into whoever you are,” Jason adds.

A New Chapter

Wayne Brady: The Family Remix is more than just entertainment; it celebrates family, identity, and the courage to live one’s truth. By sharing his story, Brady is reshaping his narrative and paving the way for greater representation and acceptance in the entertainment world.
