‘House of the Dragon’ Delivers Steamy Surprise: Queen Rhaenyra and Mysaria’s Unexpected Kiss!

WARNING: House of the Dragon spoilers ahead!

Hold onto your dragon scales, House of the Dragon fans! The latest episode has set the internet ablaze with a surprising and steamy moment that finally brings the sexual tension we’ve been craving.

Episode six of the Game of Thrones prequel premiered on July 21, continuing the season-long storyline of Sonoya Mizuno’s character, Mysaria. Known previously as the White Worm, Mysaria has transformed into Rhaenyra’s trusted advisor, confidante, and strategist. The bond between Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Mysaria deepens as they open up, culminating in a chemistry-filled kiss that changes everything.

The Unscripted Smooch

This passionate kiss wasn’t in the original script! D’Arcy actually suggested the intimate twist. “It wasn’t scripted as a kiss. I think it was scripted as… there’s just breath between them or something, and then whatever happens is interrupted,” Mizuno revealed to TheWrap. The spontaneous idea came from D’Arcy and was approved by showrunner Ryan Condal.

“Because we were separate in the room … [and] Mysaria has told this story, [D’Arcy] felt the instinct to hold her, to comfort her,” Mizuno explained. “From that, it felt so organic to go into the kiss.”

In an interview with Variety, D’Arcy elaborated, “Initially, there’s huge feelings of empathy and gratitude toward this person. Rhaenyra is hugely affected by the life that Mysaria has lived so bravely. Then, they are two bodies completely overrun by touch. As soon as they embrace and their bodies are touching, I think it’s pure bodily desire.”

What Comes Next

The kiss, however, complicates things. Rhaenyra is still married to Daemon (who is also her uncle, yikes), and Mysaria has a complicated past with Daemon, involving both sexual and political schemes. This steamy scene raises plenty of ‘what ifs’ about the characters’ future dynamics, especially with the Targaryens embroiled in the Dance of the Dragons civil war.

With only two episodes left this season, fans are excited about what will happen next. The fiery chemistry between Rhaenyra and Mysaria has added a thrilling new layer to the show, making it a must-watch.

So, if you still need to catch up, now’s the time! House of the Dragon is streaming on Max, ready to set your screens on fire with drama and desire.

Exploring Benedict’s Depths

Luke Thompson, the actor behind Benedict, teased how this season will shine a light on a new side of the character.

“Benedict has always been a little lost — or free depending on the way you want to look at it. But now he’s trying to find something a bit more solid in himself,” he said in a statement for Tudum.

“It felt important for him to explore the fullness of himself before he settles down,” showrunner Jess Brownell added. “He is someone who has big appetites, and we wanted to see him living a big life before he goes into settle-down mode.”

The Lady in Silver

So, who will Benedict be pining after in the upcoming season? Sorry, it’s not another handsome bachelor.

Tudum says season 4 will see the “bohemian second son chasing after an enchanting woman dubbed the Lady in Silver. Benedict will meet her at his mother’s masquerade ball. Still, who knows what surprises the Bridgerton creators may have?

“There are a lot of things I want to say about it, but I should probably wait … ,” Brownell teases.

Benedict’s season will have 8 episodes and is rumored to begin filming in September. However, you can still get your Bridgerton fix here!

FILM: Jordan Doww Fights Homophobic Demons in Thriller ‘Ganymede’

A Southern Gothic thriller starring Jordan Doww, Robyn Lively, and David Koechner.

In the thrilling new Southern Gothic horror film Ganymede, a young wrestler’s forbidden crush unleashes a nightmarish demon, blending queer love and terror in a gripping tale.

The trailer for “Ganymede” starts with a harrowing scene of young Lee (Jordan Doww) enduring brutal conversion therapy by a local pastor (David Koechner). Lee is subjected to mantras and electro-shock therapy. Why? All because he liked a boy.

Lee falls for his openly gay classmate Kyle, much to his conservative parents’ dismay. But here’s the real twist: a sinister creature now stalks Lee, lurking in his closet, invading his mind, and twisting his thoughts.

Who is Ganymede?

In Greek mythology, Ganymedes, a Trojan prince and divine hero, becomes Zeus’s cupbearer after Zeus abducts him. Many believe the handsome prince was Zeus’s lover, with some texts even calling him the god of homosexual love. However, in this horror twist, Ganymedes appears as a literal demon.

“A Ganymede is an unrepentant homosexual with demonic forces that overtake others with sex urges.”

But maybe not everything is as it seems. Directed by Colby Holt and his partner Sam Probst, the film is described as “part horror, part coming of age.” It aims to capture the complex emotions of LGBTQIA+ youth as they grapple with their sexuality.

“While acceptance of the LGBTQ community may be at an all-time high, we also are facing a new wave of backlash, violence, and discrimination,” said Colby. “That ideological split and its real-world implications are what we seek to dissect with this work. We wanted to explore the queer experience in the modern South, in both its unapologetic pride and the terror one can sometimes feel with the realization they are gay or queer identified.”

Back to that packed cast we teased earlier. The film stars Doww, Koechner, Pablo Castelblanco as Lee’s crush Kyle, Joe Chrest, Marissa Reyes, Sofia Yepes, and Robyn Lively.

Ganymede is available for pre-order now on AppleTV.

Love Wins: South Korea’s Supreme Court Backs Same-Sex Couples

In a historic move, South Korea’s Supreme Court has ruled in favor of same-sex couples, ensuring they receive the same health insurance benefits as heterosexual partners. This landmark decision marks a significant victory for LGBTQ+ rights in the country.

A Fight for Equality

The case that sparked this groundbreaking ruling began three years ago when gay couple So Seong-wook and Kim Yong-min sued the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS). The NHIS had canceled their benefits, prompting the couple to take legal action in 2021. The Seoul High Court ruled in their favor last year, and now the Supreme Court has upheld that decision.

Chief Justice Jo Hee-de didn’t mince words, stating, “Denying gay couples these benefits is an act of discrimination that violates human dignity and value, the right to pursue happiness, freedom of privacy, and the right to equality before the law. The degree of violation is serious.”

A Historic Verdict

Amnesty International lauded the Supreme Court’s decision, calling it a “historic victory for equality and human rights in South Korea.” Boram Jang, Amnesty International’s East Asia researcher, expressed hope that this ruling would pave the way for the country’s broader acceptance and legal recognition of same-sex marriages.

“South Korea should continue to embrace equality, diversity, and inclusiveness to ensure that every LGBTI individual can enjoy equal access to healthcare and social security benefits,” Jang said.

Joy and Tears

Outside the courthouse, scenes of jubilation unfolded as So Seong-wook and Kim Yong-min celebrated their victory. “I couldn’t believe it when I heard the ruling. I was extremely happy and I started crying. It took four years to earn this dependent status and we need to fight harder to legalize same-sex marriage going forward,” Kim told reporters.

So added, “When I listened to the verdict, I was so moved that I couldn’t hold back my tears.”

The Road Ahead

This decision is a significant step forward for LGBTQ+ rights in South Korea, but there is still a long way to go. Public opinion on gender issues is gradually changing, but same-sex marriages are not yet legally recognized.

However, the Supreme Court’s ruling sends a powerful message about the importance of equality and human rights. As Kim aptly put it, “Love wins.”

What’s Next?

While this decision is a significant milestone, it highlights the challenges same-sex couples face in securing basic rights. Human rights groups urge South Korea to continue progressing toward full equality.

For now, this victory is a beacon of hope for many, proving that love and perseverance can bring about change.

Emma D’Arcy Reflects on Iconic Role and Gender Journey: ‘It’s Interesting Where We Find Freedom’

In a recent chat with British GQ, D’Arcy opened up about how this role influenced their understanding of gender.

Emma D’Arcy, the charismatic star of HBO’s House of the Dragon, has captivated audiences with their portrayal of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. With their striking presence and compelling performances, D’Arcy has quickly become a favorite in the fantasy genre. But beyond the screen, D’Arcy’s journey to self-discovery is equally fascinating, shaped significantly by their work in theater.

The Role That Sparked Self-Discovery

Before becoming known as the fierce Targaryen princess, D’Arcy made waves in the theater world. Their second stage role was groundbreaking: playing Romeo in a gender-bending adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet at London’s Southwark Playhouse. This performance was a turning point for D’Arcy.

In a recent chat with British GQ, D’Arcy opened up about how this role influenced their understanding of gender. “It’s interesting, I suppose, because I didn’t have any language for this… gender battle taking place in my body. That only reached me when I came to London, and I was in my early twenties,” they said, reflecting on their experience at 23.

D’Arcy noted that their work often mirrored their internal struggles. “It’s funny that it expresses itself in the work, and it started doing that really early. It’s interesting where we find freedom. I hadn’t actually put those pieces together,” they added.

Embracing Genderfluid Roles

D’Arcy’s experience playing Romeo as a woman was transformative. They now advocate for more diverse casting in iconic roles. “There’s a whole discussion to be had about finally letting someone else play some of those great male roles,” D’Arcy shared.

Feeling comfortable in their gender identity today, D’Arcy is committed to pushing for better opportunities and working conditions for LGBTQ+ actors. “It doesn’t feel very complicated anymore,” they told GQ. “And yet, inevitably, I’ve met a lot of genderfluid, non-binary, and trans actors, and there are several in House of the Dragon. It’s nice, because while I’m at work, I take really seriously the attempt to expand and improve the working structures to support genderfluid people.”

Leading the Charge for Change

As a leading actor, D’Arcy recognizes their unique position to influence change. “I’m fortunate I get to play a leading role, which means I can probably shout a little bit louder than one can in a less featured part,” they said. “But I think that also comes with a responsibility. And I’m really up for it.”

Catch Emma D’Arcy in House of the Dragon season two on HBO and Max.

California’s New Safety Act Shields LGBTQ+ Students from Forced Outing

0

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the Safety Act, a groundbreaking bill that stops schools from outing LGBTQ+ students to their parents. This new law, enacted on July 15, ensures that students’ gender identity and pronoun changes remain confidential unless they share this information.

Safety First for LGBTQ+ Students

The Safety Act, proposed by assembly member Chris Ward, aims to shield LGBTQ+ students from being forcibly outed by school policies. Ward emphasized the growing national hostility toward LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly transgender youth, and the harm caused by forced outing.

“This comes from a growing national attack on LGBTQ+ people and in particular transgender individuals, with several California school districts and other states enacting policies that explicitly compel teachers to tell parents that their child identifies as transgender,” Ward said. He added, “Forced outing policies harm everyone: parents, families, and school staff, by unnecessarily compelling the staff to involve themselves in family matters and removing the opportunity for families to build trust and have conversations on their own terms.”

According to the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus, this new law makes California the first state to prohibit policies that force schools to out LGBTQ+ students.

Teachers and Students Breathe a Sigh of Relief

Middle-school teacher Amanda Estrada expressed gratitude for the new law, highlighting its importance amidst a climate of increasing homophobia and transphobia. “As a non-binary educator, I feel relieved to have some solid protection at the state level, and I feel empowered to continue advocating for my LGBTQ+ students,” Estrada told the Los Angeles Blade.

A National Issue

The fight against forced outing policies extends beyond California. According to the Movement Advancement Project, eight states, including Alabama, Tennessee, and Idaho, have laws that require schools to inform parents if their child identifies as transgender. Last year, California’s Chino Valley Unified School District faced backlash for its policy of notifying parents about name or pronoun changes. A judge blocked this policy, and the state justice department sued the district.

A Global Perspective

This issue isn’t confined to the U.S. The former Conservative government in the U.K. released guidance in 2023 that mandated teachers to out trans, non-binary, and gender-non-conforming students to their parents. Matt Adams, a department head at a West London state school, criticized this policy, saying, “Teachers and schools do not have all the information about every child’s home environment and instead of supporting a pupil to be themselves in school, we could be putting them at risk of harm. It’s dangerous behavior. It’s not solving a problem; it’s creating a problem.”

Conclusion

California’s Safety Act marks a significant step forward in protecting the rights and privacy of LGBTQ+ students. As the fight against forced outing policies continues, it’s clear that the well-being and safety of LGBTQ+ youth must remain a top priority.
