Cynthia Erivo Steals the Spotlight at Los Angeles LGBT Center Gala

OUR LOVE FOR THIS WOMAN IS TRULY UNMATCHED. Cynthia Erivo took the stage at the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Annual Gala on May 18, 2024, and gave a speech that had everyone reaching for the tissues. Held at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall, this star-studded evening celebrated the best in LGBTQ+ advocacy, with Erivo as the shining star.

A Night of Glitz and Glam

Hosted by the ever-charming Joel Kim Booster, the gala was a night to remember. Cynthia Erivo received the prestigious Rand Schrader Award. This award recognized her fabulous contributions to entertainment and LGBTQ+ activism. Jada Pinkett Smith introduced her, praising Erivo’s “immense” talent and spirit. She highlighted Erivo’s role as a “steadfast advocate” for Black and queer visibility.

A Speech That Had Us Cheering

Erivo’s acceptance speech was nothing short of legendary. She began with heartfelt gratitude, saying she felt “extremely loved and held.” Erivo described her journey of self-acceptance. “It is a privilege to be on this stage tonight because for so long I lived in deep admiration of anyone who could fully embody their true authentic self, wear their queerness like a feather boa and proudly state ‘This is a beautiful part of who I am.’”

She candidly shared her past struggles, admitting she felt like she had been looking at her “own community from inside the glass box.” With a triumphant tone, she declared, “But now, the glass has shattered,” a statement that was met with wild cheers. “There’s no box in sight, and I have walked out into the wide open spaces, into the arms of you all, and it feels like home.”

Erivo also spoke about the risks and rewards of living openly, hitting the nail on the head with, “I wanted to live, not just exist.” Preach!

Of course, Erivo couldn’t resist dropping some juicy details about the upcoming Wicked film, where she stars as Elphaba. She teased, “I see it as no coincidence that the universe urged a director named Jon M. Chu to take on the mammoth task that is Wicked.” Drawing parallels between herself and Elphaba, she said, “Elphaba’s story is a cautionary tale of what it means to stand on your individuality, your otherness, even when systems of oppression are set against you.”

“As I stand here in front of you, Black, bald-headed, pierced, and queer, I can say I know a thing or two about being the ‘other.’”

She painted a vivid picture of Elphaba as a “colorful, powerful, magical woman” who transforms from outcast to hero. “Wicked is the reclamation and the reimagining of all the labels that are used against her. It is the proclamation of her right to exist in all of her power,” Erivo proclaimed, her passion electrifying the room.

From Bachelor to Daddy

Colton Underwood first caught the public’s eye on the reality TV scene, starring in The Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise, and finally as the lead on The Bachelor. His journey from NFL linebacker to reality TV heartthrob was already a wild ride, but his personal life took center stage when he came out as gay in 2021. Shortly after, he met Jordan C. Brown, and the couple publicly announced their relationship in December 2021. They got engaged in February 2022 and tied the knot in a stunning Napa Valley wedding in May 2023.

A Rollercoaster Journey to Parenthood

The news of their upcoming arrival was shared with immense joy. Colton expressed his excitement, saying, “This entire journey has been a rollercoaster of emotions — humbling, exciting, and truly eye-opening. I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome our baby boy and really get to embrace ‘Daddyhood’ in a whole new way. Shedding Light on Male Infertility

Colton has been open about the challenges they faced in their journey to parenthood, particularly around male infertility. In an interview with Men’s Health, he said, “I wish somebody had educated me about my sperm and my body, and the decisions that I made and how they would impact me.” Colton underwent six months of “sperm rehab,” involving hormone treatments, regular exercise, and avoiding hot tubs and saunas. His efforts paid off, and with an increased sperm count, he and Jordan were ready to start in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Finding the Perfect Egg Donor

Choosing an egg donor was a significant step. Colton shared, “We want somebody deep and cool. I believe in nature versus nurture. So give us the basics and we can show this kid love.” 

Celebrating the Embryo Transfer

When it came time for the embryo transfer, Colton and Jordan made the moment special by opting for an intimate and loving setting rather than a clinical environment. Colton explained, “We just thought that, as the transfer is happening, it’s really important that we feel a part of it somehow, because we’re building our family in love.”

Colton and Jordan’s New Chapter Begins

After more than a year of planning and hoping, Colton and Jordan’s dream of having children is finally coming true. The couple, who live together with their two dogs, Scout and Zooka, are over the moon and ready for all the adventures parenthood will bring.

Meet the Couple Behind the Bridgerton Wedding

Meet Tiffany Rae (she/her) and Shanti Hinton (they/them), a beautiful pair who will be the season’s stars. Like Penelope and Colin, Shanti and Tiffany were friends first before they started dating. “Their love story is truly one of friendship, authenticity, and understanding,” Netflix writes.

“I wasn’t really looking for someone, and Tiff wasn’t really looking for someone. We were really just in our own bubble in life, going through life and finding ourselves,” Shanti tells Tudum. “We were having those tough conversations as friends, we got a stronger connection through that. So that made us be like, ‘Wait a minute, actually, I could see this person as my person.’ ”

The couple have been working with celebrity wedding planner Alice Wilkes to create their perfect day, which will be broadcasted for all of us to see. Can you believe it? The Event of the Season: A Bridgerton Wedding will roll out in four parts starting May 21 through June 11th.

“This album is a reflection of my life for the past 2 years and I’m happy to finally present it to you,” he wrote.

Omar describes the album’s title as his take on the phrase “lo que será, será,” which means, “whatever will be, will be.” According to the album release, it embodies the album with Omar’s tongue-in-cheek humorous outlook on the suffering that comes from surrendering and accepting whatever is thrown at you by life, a relationship, or a lover.”

Nicola’s Nervous Transformation

Nicola Coughlan, who plays the beloved Penelope Featherington, opened up about her character’s transformation this season. In a heartfelt moment, she admitted feeling nervous about having to be perceived as sexy.

“It was incredible. We have an insanely brilliant team behind us that design our beautiful costumes, make our wigs do gorgeous makeup, everything,” Nicola shared. She went on to describe the moment she had to reveal Penelope’s new look. “But for me personally as Nicola, it was a nerve-wracking moment because I’m super comfortable wearing Penelope’s crazy yellow dresses and looking mad. It’s real! Jonathan Bailey, the Bridgerton star and upcoming Wicked heartthrob, has joined the cast of Heartstopper for season 3. According to Netflix, Bailey is joining for a cameo appearance as Jack Maddox, Charlie’s Instagram-famous crush.

In addition to Bailey, Eddie Marsan (Back to Black, Ray Donovan) and Hayley Atwell (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Captain America: The First Avenger) will be guest starring.
