“She’s been through clearly some loss and some really difficult things for a young person at the age of 19 to lose your best mate and a sort of situation with a boy that’s gone. And I enjoy playing those other sides of Eloise as well. There has to be something else because it is great to hear Eloise’s confidence in what she wants from life, but there has to be a bit of resistance and this is the season for that I really think.”

“I feel great. I mean, it’s a wonderful problem to have that people just want more and more and more.

“There was a little period of time when I was like, ‘oh no, they don’t think my movie is sufficient,’” said López. “‘They don’t think it’s enough’. And I went, I’m an artist, and so there was a moment I was like, ‘they don’t like my movie.’ And then it took friends going, ‘you idiot. They love your movie and they love it so much. They want more.’

“I am Nick, and I’m not my role,” Galitzine asserted, addressing the complexities of his acting choices. He then voiced concerns about occupying space meant for others and admitted to feeling a mix of uncertainty and guilt. 

“I identify as a straight man, but I have been a part of some incredible queer stories. I felt a sense of uncertainty sometimes about whether I’m taking up someone’s space, and perhaps guilt.” 

Yet, he also emphasized viewing his characters as complete individuals, not defined solely by their sexuality.

Galitzine also reflected on the impact of his roles within the LGBTQ+ community. “I feel so overwhelmingly proud of the resonance I’ve been able to have,” he shared on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show. He praised the nuanced, engaging characters he’s portrayed and expressed gratitude for the positive feedback from the community.

“First and foremost, I love interesting, textured characters and I’m so glad you mentioned those [roles], because I feel like I have a lot of care for my characters and I hope that is evident in the work that I do and I feel very powerful with their backing behind me, so yeah. Just very grateful.”

“And I think that’s the same thing he did with the revelation. There’s no sit down, there’s no big discussion or talk about it. It’s what it would be. This guy has found love fin[ally]… well, I think love finally.” 

Choi lauded the way Buck’s second coming out was presented without any heavy-handed drama. “That’s the beauty of Tim Minear’s craft. He knows how to convey a story, and he doesn’t clobber you over the head at it. He comes in a different way where you don’t expect it,” he added.

The Harry Potter author, known for her heated remarks on transgender issues, was advised by Musk to steer her social media focus towards more “interesting and positive content.” This advice comes after Rowling posted a lengthy, 700-word message last month reiterating her stance on transgender issues, which Musk found to be a bit too much even for his taste.

The Background of the Controversy

Rowling has long been vocal about her views on transgender rights, often drawing criticism for what many see as trans-exclusionary feminist perspectives. Musk, on the other hand, while aligning with Rowling on gender debates, has also been known to amplify various forms of hate speech, including antisemitic theories and misinformation about race and immigration on his platform, X.

In his response to Rowling’s exhaustive post, Musk expressed agreement with her on gender issues but suggested a pivot to less divisive topics. 

“While I heartily agree with your points regarding sex/gender, may I suggest also posting interesting and positive content on other matters?” Musk proposed, signaling perhaps a desire to soften the platform’s tone.

A Shift in Platform Policy

Under Musk’s ownership, X has seen significant policy shifts, particularly concerning the moderation of content related to gender identity. Initially, Musk rolled back protections against misgendering and deadnaming. The LGBTQ+ community widely criticized this move, calling the platform “unsafe” for both users and advertisers.

However, recent months have seen a reversal of these decisions. X reinstated policies banning misgendering and deadnaming, contingent on reports from the individuals directly affected. This flip-flop in policy reflects the ongoing struggle within the platform to balance free speech with the protection of vulnerable communities.
