People can probably imagine how the typical erotic photo shoot goes. You’re probably thinking ‘intimate lighting, deliberate posing, capture the sex from an artsy vantage point’ and boom, you’re done. That may be how a lot of photographers approach the territory, but BATE CRUSH decided to toss that notion out the window for their latest exclusive feature on Gayety.
Instead of doing a repeat of this formula, BATE CRUSH turned the camera toward the awkward aftermath, that morning-after space where a casual hookup (one that was surprisingly intimate) turns into a disjointed dance as you both try to say goodbye.
Starring adult creators Phoenix and Marz, the project captures that exact unspoken standoff which happens when two people secretly hope the other won’t call an Uber just yet.
“The sex is the easy part,” BATE CRUSH said. “The awkward part comes the next morning, when both people want the other to stay but neither wants to be the first person to admit it.”
You can really see through the photo series a connection between the two, a playful and love drunk focus on each other. Maybe something that hadn’t even expected through the fling with each other. It’s as if we’re seeing the connection blossoming right before our very eyes, and that’s something that draws us in with every touch, every kiss.
Chemistry Built From Scratch
Surprisingly, the duo had never met before stepping onto the set (you could’ve fooled me). There’s a natural rhythm between the two, and you could’ve sworn it had developed through years of knowing each other.
BATE CRUSH had simply shot both creators separately in past projects and had a hunch their personalities would mesh. The gamble paid off immediately, with the two setting a comfortable, effortless vibe on set within minutes.
“What surprised me most was how easy it was to work with Marz,” Phoenix said. “Once we realized we were on the same wavelength, everything flowed naturally.”
Location also played a massive role in keeping things grounded and feeling real. The team shot the entire series inside Phoenix’s actual bedroom. Using a personal space added a sense of lived-in reality to the photos and it’s probably because Phoenix truly has a sense of ease and comfort in that room.
“I’ve always been happy that my bedroom can also function as a workspace,” Phoenix said, noting that while fans get a glimpse inside, no viewer will ever experience the room quite the way he does daily.
Ditching The Algorithm For Genuine Connection
Doing this project gave both creators a chance to vent about the reality of making content in an algorithm-driven world. When you spend your daily life producing media for screen-swiping audiences, staying true to yourself gets tricky.
For Phoenix, creative survival means separating his self-worth from the viewer count.
“I want the appreciation for the content I make to come from me first and not just from the gratification of other people enjoying it,” Phoenix said.
Marz agrees, pointing out that audiences can spot performative intimacy from a mile away. Viewers crave real human presence over polished perfection every single time.
“I think people really respond when they can feel the personality behind the content,” Marz said. “For a second, it feels like we stop performing and just genuinely see each other.”
While the images are undeniably hot (very much so), the raw honesty is why BATE CRUSH’s latest series lands so effectively. You can sense the genuine vulnerability as the two lock eyes. BATE CRUSH encapsulates that very intimate moment in this story that sticks around in your head way after you close the screen and go about your day.
Beyond The Fantasy
Audiences are really searching online for something more than contrived art. They are looking for queer photography that gives them a glimpse into believable intimacy.
BATE CRUSH’s latest work really encapsulates that sentiment beautifully. While the photographs are undeniably sensual, they also challenge the assumption that intimacy begins and ends with one moment hooking up. They suggest that sometimes the most vulnerable moment comes after everything else, when two strangers decide whether to remain strangers.
