Netflix’s Bootshas us standing at attention, and not just because of the uniforms. Set in the 1990s U.S. Marine Corps, when being gay in the military was still illegal, the series follows directionless, closeted recruit Cameron Cope (Miles Heizer) and his best friend Ray McAffey (Liam Oh) as they endure the chaos of boot camp together.

Alongside a diverse group of recruits, the two learn to navigate identity, loyalty, and survival in a world that demands conformity. With biting humor and plenty of heart, Boots finds humanity (and a little queer joy) in the unlikeliest of places.
Created and co-run by Andy Parker (Tales of the City, Imposters) with showrunner Jennifer Cecil (The Umbrella Academy, One Tree Hill), Boots brings sharp writing, ‘90s grit, and a standout cast led by Heizer. The series is executive produced by television legend Norman Lear and inspired by Greg Cope White’s memoir The Pink Marine.
