Ellen DeGeneres Addresses Getting “Kicked Out of Show Business”

“I’m mean, old and gay.”

Nearly two years after the curtain fell on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ellen DeGeneres stepped back into the spotlight. At her recent stand-up gig at the Largo in Los Angeles, DeGeneres didn’t shy away from the controversies that nudged her off the daytime TV throne.

“Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business,” she declared, her tone dripping with irony. “There’s no mean people in show business.”

Controversy and Comebacks

Back in 2020, a storm brewed over The Ellen DeGeneres Show when allegations of a toxic workplace surfaced. An article by BuzzFeed shed light on accusations from 11 anonymous staff members who cited “racism, fear, and intimidation.” While the blame was primarily pinned on executive producers, the damage to DeGeneres’s reputation was done. A Twitter thread by comedian Kevin T. Porter that year labeled her as “notoriously one of the meanest people alive,” inviting others to share similar stories.

Despite her surprise at these accusations, DeGeneres apologized to her team, and three executive producers were dismissed following an internal investigation. Critics saw this as a belated effort to salvage her public image amidst mounting discontent.

The Show Must Go On

The talk show wrapped up in May 2022, marking a significant pause in DeGeneres’s career. Reflecting on her setbacks during her stand-up show, she quipped, “For those of you keeping score, this is the second time I’ve been kicked out of show business… Eventually they’re going to kick me out for a third time because I’m mean, old, and gay.”

Post-show, DeGeneres engaged in a heartfelt Q&A with the audience, expressing the emotional toll of losing her talk show. “This was like, ‘What is going on?’ It was so hurtful. I couldn’t gain perspective. I couldn’t do anything to make myself understand that it wasn’t personal,” she shared.

Despite these challenges, she revealed plans to feature her stand-up material in a Netflix special this fall, suggesting that her days in showbiz are far from over.

Facing the Music

DeGeneres acknowledged the extreme reactions she has faced throughout her career. “It’s been such a toll on my ego and my self-esteem. There’s such extremes in this business, people either love you and idolize you or they hate you,” she told the audience, “and those people somehow are louder.”

Lauren Jauregui is Exploring Polyamory – “I just feel very free right now”

The former Fifth Harmony star is ready to mix things up when it comes to love.

After splitting from Sasha Mallory, Lauren Jauregui explores polyamory. The former Fifth Harmony star embraces new relationship styles.

On a recent episode of the “Two Dykes and a Mic” podcast, Jauregui shared some personal insights into her current dating philosophy.

“I’m also kind of in this space of exploring polyamory a little bit,” Jauregui revealed, signaling a shift in her relationship approach. She’s focusing on self-love and setting her own rules. “I want to belong to myself primarily,” she explained. The idea is to keep things open and fluid, allowing for any connection, whether purely platonic or something more spark-filled.

“We can explore that, and it won’t necessarily affect if I’m exploring something with someone else, you know?” Jauregui added, highlighting the flexible nature of her current relationship dynamic.

Communication is Key

Lauren is adamant about the importance of clear communication, especially when navigating the waters of non-monogamous relationships. She insists on full transparency to ensure that everyone involved is on the same page.

“Obviously, I’m super communicative, so I would never put someone in that scenario that doesn’t want to be in that scenario,” she emphasized.

The singer expressed feeling liberated from the confines of traditional monogamous expectations. “I just feel very free right now, and I don’t feel like this monogamous, held-down energy is really for me,” she shared, expressing a sense of relief and newfound freedom.

Open to Possibilities

Despite her current exploration of polyamory, Jauregui isn’t closing the door on settling down if the right person comes along. She playfully confessed that a special someone could completely change her outlook. “I’m like, ‘Forget it. Everybody leave. I’m getting married.’ I’m such a Cancer,” she laughed.

Discovering Self and Sexual Identity

In a candid moment, Jauregui also touched on her sexual identity, suggesting she might be demisexual—a person who needs a deep emotional connection to feel sexual attraction. “I went through the phase of trying to just sleep with people, and I hated it. I hated it,” she confessed. For her, intimacy isn’t just physical; it’s about feeling genuinely cared for.

“In order for me to be really turned on and enjoy sex, I need to know that you care about me as a human being. I can’t be transactional for you,” she concluded.

Lauren Jauregui’s journey through self-discovery and relationship exploration highlights a vibrant chapter in her life, marked by personal growth and an openness to diverse experiences in love and connections.

Ncuti Gatwa’s ‘Doctor Who’ Will Bring the Queer Energy, Says Showrunner

Ncuti Gatwa, known for his role in Sex Education, is gearing up to bring a wave of “queer energy” to the iconic role of The Doctor in the upcoming season of Doctor Who

Showrunner Russell T Davies spills the tea on what fans can expect from Gatwa’s groundbreaking portrayal, promising a character who’s anything but “neutered.”

Breaking Barriers with a Queer Doctor

Davies, renowned for his storytelling prowess, shared with Variety that Gatwa’s Doctor won’t shy away from embracing his queer identity. This isn’t about putting a label on the Doctor’s sexuality but rather letting his innate “lightness and joy” shine, something Davies feels resonates with queer energy.

He cheekily noted that past incarnations of the Time Lord “weren’t exactly the straightest men,” suggesting a rich subtext has always been woven into the fabric of the character.

As the first out queer actor to take on the role, Gatwa’s casting alone is a bold statement. The inclusion of queer themes won’t dominate the plot but expect subtle nods and explorations throughout the series. Davies made it clear: “We’re not delivering a neutered Doctor.”

A Legacy of Inclusivity

Davies has always pushed the envelope, and casting Gatwa was no exception. The search for the new Doctor was broad, including men, women, Black, white, non-binary actors, and those who keep their sexuality private. Davies thrives on challenging norms: “It’s very hard for anyone to stop me doing these things… you’d have to be a pretty brave executive to say: ‘Don’t go there’ to me.”

This casting choice follows in the footsteps of Jodie Whittaker, the first female Doctor, who faced challenges from fans clinging to traditional portrayals. Gatwa has a fierce message for detractors: true fans understand that regeneration and change are at the heart of Doctor Who. “You’ve not been watching,” he asserts, if you think the Doctor should fit a single mold.

Camp and Queer Villainy

Adding even more flair to the new season, episode two introduces Jinkx Monsoon, a two-time winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, as the Maestro—possibly the Doctor’s campest nemesis yet. This casting choice amplifies the season’s embrace of diverse and vibrant characters.

Premiere Countdown

Get ready to catch the premiere on May 11, with a special midnight release on iPlayer and Disney+, followed by a broadcast on BBC One later that day.

With Gatwa at the helm, this season of Doctor Who promises to be a celebratory journey of diversity and regeneration, reshaping what it means to wield the sonic screwdriver. Whether you’re a longtime Whovian or new to the series, this season is poised to dazzle with its bold narrative and charismatic new Doctor.

‘One Tree Hill’ Actress Sophia Bush Confirms Relationship With Soccer Star Ashlyn Harris

Sophia Bush, renowned for her role in One Tree Hill, has captured hearts once again, this time with her touching revelation in Glamour magazine about being queer and her blooming romance with soccer sensation Ashlyn Harris.

A New Beginning at 41

In her candid personal essay, Bush expresses a profound sense of relief and newfound freedom. “I finally feel like I can breathe,” she confesses in the magazine’s April issue. This moment marks a monumental shift in her life, likening it to a “first birthday” celebration. The joy of setting aside her burdens is palpable as she describes, “I feel like I was wearing a weighted vest for who knows how long. I hadn’t realized how heavy it was until I finally just put it down.”

Love on the Field: Sophia and Ashlyn’s Journey

Contrary to swirling rumors, Bush clarifies that her relationship with Harris began only after each had respectfully closed a chapter on their previous marriages. Bush had parted ways with entrepreneur Grant Hughes in August 2023, while Harris ended her marriage with fellow soccer player Ali Krieger a month later. The connection between Bush and Harris strengthened as they supported each other through their personal upheavals.

The turning point came when Bush invited Harris for what she describes as a “non-friend-group-hang,” marking the start of something magical. “It was one of the most surreal experiences of my life,” Bush shares.

“Maybe it was all fated. Maybe it really is a version of invisible string theory. I don’t really know,” she wrote. “But I do know that for a sparkly moment I felt like maybe the universe had been conspiring for me. And that feeling that I have in my bones is one I’ll hold on to no matter where things go from here.”

Breaking Stereotypes and Embracing True Love

Bush also addresses the assumptions about her past relationships, emphasizing the integrity with which she has handled her personal journey. “The idea that I left my marriage based on some hysterical rendezvous—that, to be crystal-clear, never happened—rather than having taken over a year to do the most soul-crushing work of my life? It feels brutal,” she continued.

A Sparkly Future Ahead

As Bush steps into this new chapter with Harris, she reflects on the courage it took to embrace her identity fully. “It took me 41 years to get here,” she notes, acknowledging the significance of self-acceptance in her journey toward true happiness. Her story is a vibrant reminder of the power of self-love and the beauty of finding someone who resonates with one’s soul.

Sophia Bush’s narrative is not just about coming out or finding love; it’s about discovering oneself at any stage of life and the joy that follows when one embraces their truth. It’s a story of love, resilience, and the magic that happens when life begins anew.

Billie Eilish Has Been “In Love With Girls” Her Whole Life

In a revealing interview with Rolling Stone for her May 2024 cover story, Billie Eilish shares how her new song “Lunch” became a pivotal moment in her journey toward understanding her sexuality.

The song will feature on her upcoming third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft.

Unpacking “Lunch”: A Song of Self-Discovery

Billie Eilish, the Grammy-winning artist, described the creative process behind “Lunch” as eye-opening. “That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am, to be real,” Eilish revealed to Rolling Stone

She started writing the song before exploring her feelings fully, finishing it as her understanding of her attractions became clearer. “I wrote some of it before even doing anything with a girl, and then wrote the rest after,” she explained.

The song’s lyrics metaphorically compare her crush to an all-consuming meal, encapsulating the intensity of her feelings. “Lunch” reflects a turning point for Eilish, as she embraced her attraction to women, a revelation that came to full realization last year. “I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand—until, last year, I realized I wanted my face in a vagina,” Eilish candidly shared.

Navigating Public Relationships and Personal Revelations

Eilish’s personal life, particularly her relationships, has often been under media scrutiny. Her last known relationship was with singer-songwriter Jesse Rutherford, which ended in early 2023. Despite the public nature of their breakup, confirmed exclusively by Page Six, they remained good friends.

The discussion of Eilish’s sexuality has been a sensitive topic. She expressed frustration over the focus on her personal life rather than her music or other aspects of her career. “It’s really frustrating,” Eilish noted, referring to the unwelcome attention her personal revelations have received.

Dealing with Unwanted Labels and Expectations

Eilish’s experience with her sexuality becoming a public talking point was further complicated by a red-carpet incident where she felt outed.

In a 2023 Variety interview, Eilish expressed her attraction to women but admitted feeling intimidated. Later, on the red carpet, she responded to Variety’s inquiries about whether her earlier statements were meant as a coming out.

“I didn’t [know I was coming out], but I kinda thought, wasn’t it obvious?” she told the reporter. “I didn’t realize people didn’t know.”

After reflecting on her response, Eilish said she felt exploited by the whole interaction.

“I went into Billie Eilish interview mode, [like], ‘Oh, I don’t care. Yeah, I’ll say whatever. Wasn’t it obvious?’ And then afterwards I was like, ‘Wait. It wasn’t obvious to me.'”

She acknowledged the mixed feelings it provoked. “I’m lucky enough to be in a time when I’m able to say something like that and things go OK for me,” she said, acknowledging that not everyone’s experience with such revelations is as forgiving.

The singer emphasized the importance of self-identity and the pressure to conform to labels. “Nobody should be pressured into being one thing or the other, and I think that there’s a lot of wanting labels all over the place,” Eilish argued. She advocated for personal growth and finding oneself at one’s own pace, criticizing the internet culture for bullying individuals about their personal identities.

Behind Billie’s New Album

As Billie Eilish prepares to release Hit Me Hard and Soft on May 17, she continues to navigate her path as an artist and individual. Her openness in discussing her journey offers fans a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of her life, making her music all the more resonant with those who follow her. With “Lunch” and the new album, Eilish shares her music and her narrative of coming into her own.

Jonathan Bailey Joins ‘Heartstopper’ in a Heart-throbbing New Role

Everyone say “hi” to Jack Maddox (AKA our forever crush Jonathan Bailey).

It’s real! Jonathan Bailey, the Bridgerton star and upcoming Wicked heartthrob, has joined the cast of Heartstopper for season 3. According to Netflix, Bailey is joining for a cameo appearance as Jack Maddox, Charlie’s Instagram-famous crush.

The Heartstopper Family Keeps on Growing

Though fans had pieced together clues about Bailey’s involvement, Netflix finally confirmed it, ending the speculation. However, the dreamy actor is not the only one joining the Heartstopper fam.

‘I am incredibly excited to be welcoming three new cast members to the Heartstopper family,” shared author Alice Oseman.

In addition to Bailey, Eddie Marsan (Back to Black, Ray Donovan) and Hayley Atwell (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Captain America: The First Avenger) will be guest starring.

“Hayley Atwell joins the Nelson family as Nick’s Aunt Diane, who takes Nick on a summer holiday to Menorca and has some tough advice to impart about his relationship. Eddie Marsan will be portraying a beloved character from the graphic novels: Geoff, Charlie’s wise and straight-talking therapist.”

Atwell’s entrance is bittersweet, as fans mourn Olivia Colman’s exit as Nick’s mom. Fortunately, Nick won’t be alone this season! His aunt will be there to help navigate him through tough times in his relationship with Charlie.

It was an absolute joy to see Hayley, Eddie, and Jonathan’s talent alongside our existing cast, and I can’t wait for the Heartstopper fans to meet these new characters,” Oseman concluded.

About S3

“Charlie would like to tell Nick that he loves him. Nick also has something important to say to Charlie. As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realise that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges. As they learn more about each other and their relationships, plan social events and parties and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go to plan.”

Heartstopper season 3 will arrive on Netflix this October.
