Paul Freeman’s ‘Garage’: A Provocative Exploration of Masculinity and Machinery

There’s something irresistibly evocative about a garage. The scent of motor oil and gasoline, the rugged tools strewn across workbenches, the quiet intensity of mechanics absorbed in their craft—all of these elements combine to create a uniquely masculine atmosphere. Photographer Paul Freeman masterfully captures this spirit in his latest book, Garage, a stunning tribute to masculinity, machinery, and the beauty of the male form.

Celebrating 20 Years of Photography

Marking two decades since his first self-published book, Freeman has built an international reputation for his portrayal of rugged, natural masculinity. His extensive career has encompassed numerous iconic photography books, including classics like Bondi Classic, Outback, and Larrikin. Now, he returns with Garage, a carefully curated collection that takes readers on a sensory journey through grease-stained workshops, classic car garages, and quiet spaces filled with the hum of machinery.

Paul Freeman

Freeman’s journey has been rich with artistic exploration and human connection. Over the past 18 months alone, he has revisited beloved locations and discovered exciting new spaces across Los Angeles, Las Vegas, London, Miami, and rural Australia. Each garage he captures is distinct, yet all share an unmistakably gritty charm.

Paul Freeman

The Sensuality of Craftsmanship

In Garage, Freeman uses his camera to transform everyday scenes into moments of breathtaking sensuality. The mechanics featured in his work are both tough and tender—men completely at ease amid the tools and machines that surround them. Freeman’s skill lies in his ability to capture authentic vulnerability and strength, allowing the viewer to appreciate every muscle, tattoo, and subtle expression of the men who embody the spirit of their environments.

Paul Freeman

His approach to photography celebrates the unassuming sensuality hidden within practical, work-driven spaces. He masterfully portrays mechanics not just as craftsmen, but as artists—men whose hands tell stories, whose bodies speak of labor and resilience, whose eyes hint at deeper narratives beneath their rugged exteriors.

Paul Freeman

Spotlight on Tom: A Return to the Lens

An especially poignant highlight of Garage is the return of Tom, who was last featured in Freeman’s 2009 book, Outback Currawong Creek. Tom isn’t your typical professional model; he’s an authentic representation of working-class masculinity, possessing real-world experience in trades and outdoor pursuits.

Paul Freeman

For Freeman’s 20th anniversary, Tom returned to the camera with renewed physicality and a rugged charisma honed by genuine experience. His presence lends a unique depth to the collection, seamlessly portraying the rugged country mechanic—complete with oil-stained hands and a confident gaze. Tom’s return symbolizes both continuity and evolution in Freeman’s body of work.

Paul Freeman

A Blend of Fresh and Archival Imagery

Freeman didn’t just rely on new shoots; he enriched Garage by revisiting his vast archive. He masterfully interweaves previously unpublished photographs into the narrative, giving the book a sense of timelessness. Each page reveals images both fresh and familiar, creating a layered experience for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Bowen Yang Calls VP JD Vance a ‘Pope Killer’ During Hilarious ‘View’ Appearance

0

Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang turned daytime television into a laugh-fest on Thursday with an eyebrow-raising — and entirely comedic — new nickname for Vice President JD Vance: “the pope killer.”

Yang appeared on The View to promote his new romantic comedy The Wedding Banquet, but it was his commentary on politics and SNL impressions that sent the hosts into hysterics.

While chatting about his role on the NBC sketch series — where he famously plays characters like the Titanic’s Iceberg and Vice President Vance — Yang dropped the remark that had the studio in stitches. Referencing Vance’s highly publicized last-minute meeting with Pope Francis just hours before the pontiff’s death on Easter Monday, Yang quipped, “The guy’s a pope killer, okay?”

The comment instantly broke the panel. Whoopi Goldberg turned away from the camera in laughter, declaring, “Someone had to say it!” Co-host Sara Haines jumped in with, “There’s our new headline!” Meanwhile, Joy Behar, ever the voice of comic reason, quickly clarified, “He doesn’t mean it literally — he’s talking spiritually.”

Pope Francis died on Easter Monday at age 88, just one day after briefly meeting with Vance in Vatican City. Vance later told The Hill, “Obviously, when I saw him, I didn’t know that he had less than 24 hours still on this Earth… I think it was a great blessing.”

Yang’s zinger may have been exaggerated satire, but it certainly landed with the audience — and the hosts.

Earlier in the segment, Yang spoke about preparing to play Vance on SNL, confessing, “I thought there would be better people to embody him.” To get it right, Yang said he worked with an accent coach to find a blend “between Ohio and Appalachia.” One host responded, “You nailed it,” to which Yang grinned and responded with the now-viral “pope killer” line.

Of course, Yang was primarily on The View to talk about his latest film The Wedding Banquet, a queer romantic comedy directed by Andrew Ahn. Yang stars as a commitment-phobic man caught in a tangled web of love and immigration schemes, opposite Han Gi-chan, Kelly Marie Tran, and Lily Gladstone. The film premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, earning rave reviews. Out Magazine praised it as director Ahn’s “career peak” and said, “No other movie moved me or made me laugh more.”

JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes Address CBB Controversy, Breakup, and ‘Soulmate’ Bond in First Post-Show Interview

0

JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes made their first joint appearance following their stint on Celebrity Big Brother, sitting down for a candid interview on ITV’s This Morning to discuss their connection in the house — and the breakup that followed.

The pop star and former Love Island contestant became a headline-making duo during the latest season of Celebrity Big Brother, with fans — and critics — closely following their interactions. The pair were often seen hugging, cuddling, and sharing kisses throughout the show, sparking speculation about the nature of their relationship.

But controversy soon followed due to the pair’s 11-year age gap — Hughes is 32, Siwa is 21 — and the fact that Siwa was still in a relationship with Australian influencer Kath Ebbs at the time.

During the interview with hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard on Monday, Siwa confirmed that she ended her relationship with Ebbs at the show’s wrap party on Friday, April 25 — a revelation that Ebbs had previously shared via social media.

“It wasn’t my plan,” Siwa said when asked about the highly public breakup. “I was told they weren’t going to attend the wrap party, and then they arrived about an hour in. They straight up asked me if I was happy, and I said no. One thing led to another, and that conversation happened there.”

Ebbs had earlier expressed on Instagram that they were left “shocked” and “numb,” accusing Siwa of expressing love privately while showing conflicting behavior on-screen. Despite feeling “humiliated” by the timing of the breakup, Ebbs said they had initially hoped to work through the issues.

Reflecting on her time in the house, Siwa shared that the experience forced her to confront personal truths. “Day one, fun. Day two, fun. But by day three, I was sitting with myself and realized I had been OK with things I shouldn’t have been,” she said. “When I got out, I knew I had to make changes in my life.”

Though their chemistry on the show raised questions, both Siwa and Hughes emphasized that their bond remains platonic — but deeply meaningful.

“It’s just a really strong friendship,” Hughes told the hosts. “You can have a soulmate friendship. It’s not romantic, but it’s special. Going through an experience like that with someone… was beautiful.”

When asked if their relationship could ever turn romantic, Siwa responded with a smile: “Whatever life does, life will do.”

As of now, both stars say they are focused on personal growth and grateful for the bond they formed in the house — regardless of public speculation.

Jacob Elordi Turns Heads in New Behind-the-Scenes Photos from ‘On Swift Horses’

0

New behind-the-scenes images of Jacob Elordi on the set of On Swift Horses have been released — and yes, fans, they’re just as dreamy as you’d hope.

Following months of buzz and building anticipation, the Daniel Minahan-directed film officially galloped into U.S. theaters on Friday, April 25. The movie is based on Shannon Pufahl’s acclaimed novel of the same name and weaves a tale of longing, love, and life on the emotional edge.

Set in the 1950s, the film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Will Poulter as newlyweds Muriel and Lee, who leave behind Kansas City to start anew in sunny San Diego. But things take a turn when Lee’s enigmatic brother Julius, played by Elordi, shows up with charm, secrets, and a dangerous past that throws everything off course.

According to the official synopsis, a “dangerous love triangle quickly forms.” When Julius takes off in search of a young card cheat he’s fallen for, Muriel begins a secret double life — gambling on racehorses and discovering a kind of love she never knew she craved.

In celebration of the film’s U.S. release, Entertainment Weekly shared a stunning collection of behind-the-scenes photographs taken by artist Jack Pierson. The images showcase the film’s vintage aesthetic, complete with period-perfect costumes, dramatic lighting, and, of course, Elordi’s effortlessly cool screen presence.

One standout image shows Elordi mid-scene in a moody casino setting. Another captures Edgar-Jones in full 1950s glam. And yes, two of the images show Elordi shirtless — a cinematic tradition, at this point.

“The first scene I came in on wound up being the first scene in the movie, although they’d been shooting for a week,” Elordi told EW. “This is where Daisy’s character first encounters Jacob’s. I hope it makes you think of Edward Hopper.”

The photo set also includes solo portraits of the main cast, including Diego Calva, who plays Elordi’s on-screen love interest. “Diego’s hair was perfection,” Pierson recalled, “but when it came time to shoot, the wind really came up and wouldn’t stop! It doesn’t matter, though, because those eyes triumphed.”

Elordi recently described the project to Vanity Fair as “a sprawling, epic, non-generic love story” and emphasized its universal themes. He also opened up about building chemistry with Calva, revealing they spent a week rehearsing intensively in a motel room. “Dan gave us a lot of freedom to play and to find that love within those four walls,” he said.

Calva, for his part, praised Elordi as a “methodic actor” and added that their personalities complemented each other. “We rehearsed together. I felt safe all the time,” Calva shared with Film Updates. He even mentioned they bonded over a shared love of Pokémon on Nintendo Switch.

While the film is now showing in U.S. cinemas, international fans will need a bit more patience. On Swift Horses is set to debut in France on April 30 under the title Les Indomptés, and in Spain on July 25. A UK release date has not yet been announced.

“Line dancing has always been a place of belonging for me,” Eden said in a press release. “I grew up performing in my dad’s line dancing band, and the community and joy of those nights inspired my new single. I wanted to create a song that brought the queer and the line dancing communities together, no matter who you are or where you’re from.”

To bring that vision to life, Eden is kicking off “Giddy Up! Nights,” a series of line dancing events happening nationwide. At each stop, fans can learn the official “Giddy Up!” dance from Eden herself—a routine designed for dancers of all levels. In addition to teaching the steps, she’ll also perform her 2023 fan favorite “Outlaw Love” and the brand-new track “Rainbow Rodeo,” which drops alongside “Giddy Up!” on May 2.

The “Giddy Up! Nights” tour kicks off April 28 in Austin, Texas, and gallops through major cities including Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville. Eden will also perform at major Pride festivals throughout the summer, including WeHo Pride on June 1 and Arlington Pride on June 14.

One of the tour’s biggest highlights: Eden’s high-profile performance at WorldPride DC 2025 on June 8. She’ll take the main stage alongside Grammy-winning rapper Doechii and multi-platinum artist Khalid for the event’s Closing Ceremony and Concert. Held on Pennsylvania Avenue against the backdrop of the U.S. Capitol, the free celebration will gather hundreds of thousands of attendees for a night of music, community, and the official passing of the WorldPride torch to Amsterdam 2026.

Other key stops on Eden’s summer schedule include:

  • May 17 – Glowdeo, Austin, TX
  • May 29 – Headlining show at The Basement East, Nashville, TN
  • June 2 – GLAAD’s Concert for Love & Acceptance, Nashville, TN
  • July 5 – Marin County Fair, San Rafael, CA

With “Giddy Up!” Eden continues her rise as one of country music’s most exciting and inclusive voices, mixing boot-stomping beats with heartfelt storytelling and a clear message: Everyone’s invited to the party.

“Giddy Up!” and “Rainbow Rodeo” will be available on all streaming platforms starting May 2.
