Pedro Pascal Slams Anti-Trans Bigotry, Calls Policies “Vile” and “Pathetic”

0

Pedro Pascal has issued a powerful rebuke against anti-transgender bigotry, condemning recent policies aimed at stripping rights from the transgender community as “vile” and “pathetic.”

In an Instagram post over the weekend, the The Last of Us star shared a photo of a message seen on a building that read: “A world without trans people has never existed and never will.” Pascal captioned the image, telling his nearly nine million followers that he would not stand by while transgender individuals are targeted.

“I can’t think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except the right to exist,” Pascal wrote. The post quickly garnered more than 750,000 likes.

Though Pascal did not directly reference specific policies in his post, his comments align with recent actions taken by the Trump administration, which has rolled out several executive orders restricting rights for transgender and non-binary people. These orders include declaring “only two sexes” as official U.S. policy, banning transgender women and girls from competing in women’s sports, restricting gender-affirming care for trans youth under 19, and prohibiting transgender individuals from serving in the military. Additionally, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies have been removed from federal agencies.

One of the most controversial changes has been the State Department’s new passport policy, which only recognizes male and female gender markers, based on the sex recorded at birth. This has led to difficulties for many transgender individuals, including Euphoria star Hunter Schafer, who revealed she was issued a passport listing her as “male” despite identifying as a woman.

Pascal, an outspoken ally of the LGBTQ+ community, has been particularly vocal in his support of the transgender community, motivated in part by his sister, actress Lux Pascal, who is transgender. Following his post condemning anti-trans bigotry, Pascal shared a black-and-white photo of his sister posing at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Chile, simply captioning it: “Lux.”

Earlier this month, Pascal also posted a video of the late trans activist Cecilia Gentili giving a stirring speech at the New York University Lavender Graduation ceremony for LGBTQ+ college students in May 2023. Gentili’s powerful words urged the audience not to minimize the seriousness of the issues facing the transgender community.

“Do not allow anyone to tell you that this is not a big deal, or that this is just a culture war, or that trans people are overstating the seriousness of what is going on,” Gentili said in the video. “I’ve been a trans person for nearly 50 years… Knowing your identity, who you are, and where you come from is powerful… I think one of the most important things that we can do for young people is to share those stories. Once we know who we are, we cannot be stopped.”

In his caption, Pascal highlighted Gentili’s words, writing: “Know who you are. Progress is inevitable.”

Fans of Pascal have continued to praise him for his unwavering support of the trans community, with many expressing admiration for his advocacy. One fan summed it up succinctly: “Could his flag get any greener?”

Another Lawsuit Filed Against Drag Entertainer Shangela Over Alleged Sexual Assault

0

A new civil lawsuit has been filed against celebrity drag performer Shangela, accusing the entertainer of sexual assault.

The complaint, filed Monday in the New York Supreme Court, was obtained by Out. The lawsuit, brought by Eric Poff, alleges that the incident occurred in October 2017 after Poff, then a production assistant on Hurricane Bianca: From Russia with Hate, met Shangela—whose legal name is Chantaize Darius Jeremy Pierce—on set in New York City.

According to the complaint, Poff and Pierce went to a Manhattan bar where Poff claims to have consumed one or two drinks. He alleges his drink was “spiked” with a drug, leaving him with no memory of events between consuming the drink and later regaining partial consciousness in a hotel room. The complaint further states that Poff was “semi-conscious” when he was sexually assaulted by a man referred to as John Doe, with Pierce allegedly watching from the corner of the room. The lawsuit also accuses Pierce of sexually assaulting Poff.

Poff’s attorney, James A. Vagnini, said that Poff does not know the identity of the John Doe defendant.

The complaint goes on to argue that Poff could not consent to any sexual activity due to his impaired state, and it claims Pierce subsequently sent money to Poff via PayPal. Poff is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, along with pre- and post-judgment interest and legal fees.

In a statement, Poff said, “Sexual assault is a particularly taboo subject in the LGBTQ community… My hope is to hold accountable DJ Piece/Shangela, shed light on the impact of sexual assault on those who experience it, and shift attitudes in what can be a toxic culture of victim blaming and shaming.”

This new lawsuit adds to a growing list of accusations against Pierce. At least five other individuals have publicly accused him of similar misconduct, according to a Rolling Stone report published in 2024. Poff’s allegations closely mirror those of other alleged victims. Vagnini also revealed to Out that he has been in contact with another individual from Texas who claims to have an “almost strikingly identical” experience.

The lawsuit alleges that these earlier cases encouraged Poff to come forward with his own story.

“I am coming forward because I have the ability and resources to do so, knowing many other victims cannot,” Poff said. “I refuse to let stereotypes be used as an excuse for predatory behavior.”

Poff also highlighted his support for legal protections such as the New York City Gender Motivated Violence Law, which he says enabled him to file the lawsuit when he was strong enough to do so. He added, “I will not be deterred by the Defendant’s popularity or potential backlash.”

Poff, whose adult film stage name is Dakota Payne, is originally from Waxahachie, Texas. He had previously spoken out about his experience via an Instagram post in September 2024. In the post, he recalled confronting Pierce at a West Hollywood bar, where Pierce allegedly responded, “I’m sorry you feel that way.” In a follow-up video, Poff addressed Pierce directly, criticizing the drag entertainer for allegedly jeopardizing the safety of spaces they shared.

Pierce, through his lawyer, has denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex. His attorney, Andrew Brettler, previously stated that the allegations are “false and unsupported by any evidence of reliable witness testimony.” Four prior cases against Pierce have been settled, and one lawsuit was dismissed.

In December 2024, Pierce attended Out’s annual Out100 event as the guest of another invitee, where he was photographed alongside honorees Cynthia Erivo and Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Stonewall Charity Faces Staff Cuts Amid US Foreign Aid Reductions and Financial Struggles

0

UK LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall is undergoing an organization-wide consultation that could lead to significant staff cuts. The decision comes in the wake of changes to US foreign aid policies under the Donald Trump administration, which have affected several global LGBTQ+ organizations, including Stonewall.

A spokesperson for Stonewall confirmed to PinkNews that they cannot yet provide an exact figure on the number of redundancies. However, multiple reports, citing sources within the charity, suggest that Stonewall could be forced to reduce its workforce by as much as half due to cuts in US foreign aid.

In early February, Elon Musk, who is leading the push to reduce the size of the federal government through his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), announced that work was underway to dissolve the US foreign aid agency USAID. The agency, which has faced intense scrutiny under the Trump administration, employed approximately 10,000 people.

The move to shut down USAID follows years of turmoil for the agency, with reports from The Washington Post describing it as having been “whipsawed by aid freezes, personnel purges, and confusion.” Trump has been vocal in his disdain for USAID, referring to its leadership as a “bunch of radical lunatics.” Musk also joined in the criticism, calling the agency “evil” and accusing it of harboring “radical-left Marxists” who “hate America.”

In addition, Musk made unfounded claims on social media, including a tweet suggesting that USAID was responsible for funding bioweapons research related to the COVID-19 pandemic, a baseless accusation. The Trump administration also falsely alleged that USAID had supported a “transgender opera.”

Over the past three years, Stonewall has received over half a million pounds from the US government as part of the Global Equality Fund, which aids LGBTQ+ organizations around the world. The reduction in foreign aid has had a direct impact on Stonewall’s ability to carry out its work, with the charity now facing tough decisions regarding its staffing and funding.

Stonewall Adapts to Changing Political Landscape

Despite the challenges, Stonewall remains committed to its mission. A charity spokesperson told PinkNews that the organization is adapting to meet the demands of a changing political landscape. “Hard-won rights are being rolled back for marginalized communities across the world, and we are seeing an unprecedented political backlash against the principles of inclusion,” the spokesperson said. “Stonewall is adapting to ensure that it is fit for purpose and able to meet the challenges of this new political era.”

The spokesperson emphasized that Stonewall has had to be flexible in the past and will continue to do so in the future. “Over the last 35+ years, Stonewall has often needed to be agile and adapt to a changing world, and now it is no different. We know that we must work differently than we have previously to be effective in the coming years—and we are future-proofing with that in mind,” they added.

The spokesperson also noted that many charities, including Stonewall, are facing difficult decisions due to financial pressures. The charity’s most recent annual report for 2023-2024 revealed a deficit of more than £800,000, which it attributed to “challenging operating conditions.”

Stonewall’s History and Political Challenges

Stonewall was founded in 1989 by a group of gay and lesbian activists who were fighting against the UK’s homophobic Section 28 legislation, a law introduced by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The charity’s first office was in the home of gay actor Sir Ian McKellen. Since its inception, Stonewall has been at the forefront of LGBTQ+ rights in the UK, working on issues such as equal marriage, adoption rights, and workplace protections.

However, in recent years, the organization has faced increasing political and media scrutiny. In 2021, Scottish minister Patrick Harvie commented on the “opportunistic hate campaign” that Stonewall had been subjected to. Critics of Stonewall have targeted its Diversity Champions program, which helps workplaces become more LGBTQ+ inclusive by providing guidance on issues like parental leave for same-sex couples.

Stonewall’s work has also been criticized by some conservative groups and politicians, including former President Donald Trump. Since taking office, Trump has sought to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in both public and private sectors. This shift has further complicated the charity’s work, particularly in the international arena, where it relies on funding from organizations like USAID.

Conclusion: The Road Ahead for Stonewall

As Stonewall navigates these significant financial and political challenges, the charity’s leadership remains focused on ensuring that its mission of advocating for LGBTQ+ rights remains strong. Despite the cuts to foreign aid and the ongoing political backlash against LGBTQ+ advocacy, Stonewall is committed to continuing its work and adapting to the evolving landscape.

While staff reductions may be necessary, Stonewall remains dedicated to ensuring that the fight for LGBTQ+ equality continues, both in the UK and globally. As the charity looks to the future, it will likely need to find new ways to sustain its work and maintain its position as a leading voice for LGBTQ+ rights.

Jane Fonda Delivers Powerful Lifetime Achievement Speech at SAG Awards 2025: ‘Woke Just Means You Care About Others’

0

Jane Fonda was honored with the prestigious SAG Life Achievement Award at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, February 23, during a star-studded ceremony hosted by Kristen Bell at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall. The 87-year-old actress-activist, who has spent decades both gracing the screen and fighting for social change, was recognized for her exceptional career and profound impact on both the entertainment industry and society.

Following an introduction by presenter Julia Louis-Dreyfus and a highlight reel showcasing her remarkable body of work, Fonda took the stage to a standing ovation from the crowd. “This means the world to me,” the two-time Academy Award winner began her heartfelt acceptance speech, before thanking SAG-AFTRA for their support. “Your enthusiasm makes this seem less like a late twilight-of-my-life [moment] and more like a, ‘Go girl, kick ass [one],’” Fonda added with a smile, declaring that she was far from finished with her career.

“I’m not done,” she said, prompting cheers from the audience.

Reflecting on her unconventional and “un-strategic” career, Fonda, who took a 15-year hiatus from acting before returning at 65, described herself as a “late bloomer” in Hollywood. She also shared her thoughts on the importance of unions, explaining that she is a “big believer in unions” and believes they provide workers with community and power. “Community means power, and this is really important right now when workers’ power is being attacked and community is being weakened,” she said.

Fonda continued by highlighting the unique role of actors in society, explaining that while they do not produce tangible goods, they create something equally powerful: empathy. “We don’t manufacture anything tangible. What we create is empathy,” she said. “Our job is to understand another human being so profoundly that we can touch their souls. We know why they do what they do; we feel their joys and their pain.”

She gave examples of roles that demand complex empathy, such as playing characters like sex workers or bullies, explaining, “While you may hate the behavior of your character, you have to understand and empathize with the traumatized person you’re playing.”

Fonda also took the opportunity to address the often-misunderstood term “woke.” “Make no mistake, empathy is not weak or ‘woke’—and by the way, ‘woke’ just means you give a damn about other people,” she said, to applause from the crowd.

Later in her speech, Fonda expressed her belief that empathy would be crucial as the world faces new challenges. “A whole lot of people are gonna be really hurt by what is happening; what is coming our way,” she warned. “Even if they are of a different political persuasion, we need to call upon our empathy and not judge, but listen from our hearts, and welcome them into our tent. Because we are gonna need a big tent to resist successfully what’s coming at us.”

She then recalled the early days of her career, starting with her first film in 1958, during the final years of McCarthyism, when many actors’ careers were destroyed. Fonda noted how Hollywood had resisted, pointing out that brave American producers like Hannah Weinstein and iconic figures such as Myrna Loy and Billy Wilder had actively supported blacklisted writers. “Have any of you ever watched a documentary of one of the great social movements, like apartheid or our civil-rights movement or Stonewall, and asked yourself, would you have been brave enough to walk the bridge?” Fonda asked the audience. “We don’t have to wonder anymore, because we are in our documentary moment. This is it, and it’s not a rehearsal.”

She urged those in the room not to be passive during challenging times. “We must not isolate. We must stay in community. We must help the vulnerable. We must find ways to project an inspiring vision of the future—one that is beckoning, welcoming, that will help people believe that, to quote the novelist Pearl Cleage, ‘On the other side of the conflagration, there will still be love. There will still be beauty, and there will be an ocean of truth for us to swim in.’ Let’s make it so.”

In closing, Fonda thanked the audience for their encouragement and reiterated her gratitude. “Thank you for this encouragement. Thank you.”

Fonda was the 60th recipient of the SAG Life Achievement Award, which honors performers who have made significant contributions to the acting profession and actively supported humanitarian causes. The award has been presented to legendary figures such as Barbra Streisand, Sally Field, Helen Mirren, and Robert De Niro in recent years.

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher praised Fonda’s lasting impact, calling her “a trailblazer and an extraordinary talent” who has shaped the landscape of entertainment, advocacy, and culture. “We honor Jane not only for her artistic brilliance but for the profound legacy of activism and empowerment she has created,” Drescher said in a statement.

Fonda’s career spans more than six decades, with notable achievements including two Academy Awards for her roles in Klute (1971) and Coming Home (1978), two BAFTAs, an Emmy Award, and seven Golden Globe Awards. In 2021, Women in Film established the annual Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award in recognition of her lifelong commitment to social justice and environmental advocacy.

As she accepted the SAG Life Achievement Award, Fonda’s legacy as both an actress and activist was on full display. She remains one of the most influential figures in Hollywood, known for her powerful performances, her courageous activism, and her unwavering commitment to social change.

The 2025 SAG Awards, which honored the best in film and television for 2024, also saw Wicked and Shōgun dominate the nominations list.

Cooper Koch Responds to District Attorney Hochman’s Opposition to Menendez Brothers’ New Trial

0

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman has publicly opposed granting the Menendez Brothers a new trial, a position that has drawn criticism from actor Cooper Koch, who portrayed Erik Menendez in the Netflix series Monsters.

The case revolves around Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted in 1996 of murdering their parents, José and Mary Menendez. The brothers have long maintained that they killed their parents in self-defense after enduring years of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. In 2022, former District Attorney George Gascon recommended that the brothers be re-sentenced, which could have resulted in their release on parole. This recommendation came after new evidence surfaced, including letters that allegedly supported the brothers’ claims of abuse.

However, Hochman, who was elected as District Attorney in 2024, dismissed the notion of a new trial for the Menendez brothers. In a press conference held Friday, Hochman questioned the credibility of new evidence presented in their case, specifically a letter from Erik Menendez to a man named Andy Cano, dated 1988. Hochman cast doubt on the authenticity of the letter and its relevance to the case.

“We looked again at the credibility of the letters, particularly this Andy Cano 1988 supposed letter,” Hochman said. “It calls into drastic question whether this is in fact a 1988 letter written by Erik Menendez to Andy Cano about this sexual abuse.” Hochman also stated that even if the letter were valid, it was not presented during the original trial and came too late to be considered in the current proceedings. “The delay in bringing this motion from at least 2015 to 2023 is substantial,” he added, referring to the brothers’ request for a re-sentencing.

Hochman emphasized that, based on the legal grounds, the court should deny the Menendez brothers’ current habeas petition. He also noted that if the court disagreed, it could issue an “order to show cause,” which would involve further legal proceedings.

Cooper Koch, who played Erik Menendez in Monsters, a role that dramatized the brothers’ lives and the complex circumstances surrounding the murders, responded to Hochman’s stance in a statement. In a message shared via his brother Payton Koch’s Instagram Story, Cooper expressed his disapproval of Hochman’s position.

“I am deeply troubled by the statement made today by District Attorney Nathan Hochman,” Cooper Koch said in a statement released on his brother, Payton Koch’s Instagram story. “It is still my firm belief that the Menendez brothers did not receive a fair second trial and all of the evidence that supported their claims of sexual, psychological, physical, and emotional abuse at the hands of their mother and father were not considered.”

Koch, who has become a vocal advocate for the Menendez brothers’ case, further expressed his belief in the brothers’ innocence and the need for justice. “I remain hopeful that there is still a path forward that will lead to their freedom, so I encourage all of their supporters to keep their voices strong,” he added.

The Menendez brothers were convicted of first-degree murder for killing their parents in Beverly Hills in 1989. Their case garnered widespread media attention, with many questioning whether their actions were the result of a lifetime of abuse. After serving over 30 years in prison, the brothers have continued to fight for their freedom, with renewed support from activists, legal experts, and the entertainment industry.

As the debate over their case continues, the Menendez brothers’ future remains uncertain. Hochman’s decision to reject their request for a new trial adds another chapter to one of California’s most infamous criminal cases. Fans and advocates like Koch continue to rally behind the brothers, hoping for a chance at justice and potential release.

Study Finds Transgender People Face Greater Risk When Forced to Use Restrooms That Don’t Match Their Gender Identity

0

A recent study from the Williams Institute sheds light on the challenges faced by transgender individuals when using restrooms that align with their gender identity. The study found that transgender people are more likely to face harassment or be denied access when using facilities that correspond to their gender assigned at birth rather than their gender identity.

The research, part of the 2022 U.S. Transgender Survey, which included responses from 92,329 participants, examined the experiences of transgender men and women over the past 12 months. Both groups were asked if they had been verbally harassed or denied access to restrooms matching their gender identity or sex assigned at birth.

For transgender men, approximately 10% reported being denied access to women’s restrooms or experiencing verbal harassment in those spaces. Meanwhile, for transgender women, 7% were denied access to male restrooms, and almost 9% were verbally harassed in those facilities.

When using restrooms that corresponded with their gender identity, transgender men had slightly better experiences, with around 5% reporting being denied access to men’s restrooms and around 7% experiencing verbal harassment. Transgender women had similar experiences, with 5% reporting denial of access to women’s restrooms and more than 7% facing verbal harassment in those spaces.

Despite the evident dangers posed by bathroom bans, which limit transgender individuals’ access to facilities that match their gender identity, former President Donald Trump insisted during his administration that such policies were necessary to ensure the safety of women in public spaces. Trump signed an executive order early in his presidency that not only denied the existence of transgender people but also restricted their access to gendered spaces under the argument of protecting women’s safety. Trump has been found liable for sexual abuse in multiple cases, a point that has continued to raise concerns regarding his stance on transgender rights.

The Williams Institute study also compared states with and without nondiscrimination laws to assess the impacts of such policies on public safety and privacy. Researchers analyzed criminal incident reports related to assault, sex crimes, and voyeurism in public restrooms, locker rooms, and dressing rooms. The findings showed no significant change in safety or privacy after the implementation of nondiscrimination laws, with incidents of such behavior remaining rare. This aligns with previous research from 2018, which drew similar conclusions when comparing states with and without gender discrimination laws.

While the study provides statistical insight into the experiences of transgender individuals, it is essential to remember the personal stories behind these numbers. There have been numerous instances of transgender and nonbinary people being assaulted in public restrooms, highlighting the very real dangers they face. A high-profile example is the tragic death of Nex Benedict, a nonbinary Indigenous teen from Oklahoma, who was assaulted by a group of girls in their high school restroom before passing away from the injuries.

The Williams Institute concluded that the notion of transgender individuals threatening the safety of women in restrooms is unfounded. Consistent reports from transgender individuals demonstrate that they are often the victims of harassment, verbal abuse, and even physical assault in public restrooms. The study emphasizes the importance of ensuring equal access to public facilities for transgender individuals, without fear of discrimination or violence.

As the debate over bathroom access for transgender people continues, it is crucial to focus on both the statistical evidence and the real-life consequences of such policies. Transgender individuals deserve the right to use public restrooms safely and without fear of harassment, regardless of their gender identity.

Hunter Schafer Shares ‘Harsh Reality Check’ After Passport Gender Marker Change

0

Hunter Schafer just took to the internet to let everyone know the ‘harsh reality’ that she is facing after changing her passport.

The ‘Euphoria‘ actress shared an 8-and-a-half-minute video talking about how she now has an “M” placed on her passport and how discouraging the situation is.

“On the first day of Trump’s presidency, he signed an executive order to declare only two genders recognized by the state, male and female, assigned at birth,” Schafer went on to note. “As a result of this, the Bureau of Consular Affairs has frozen passport applications requesting gender marking changes or renewals.”

While she claimed, “I’ll believe it when I see it,” the model and actress had a rude awakening when she picked up her new passport. She went on to say it was the first time it had happened since her teenage years.

She went on to add, “I’m not making this post to fear-monger, or to create drama, or receive consolation, I don’t need it,” she said. “But I do think it’s worth posting to sort of note the reality of the situation and that it’s happening. I was shocked. I just didn’t think it was actually going to happen.”

Schafer later shared that her bag containing her old passport was stolen in Barcelona, prompting her to apply for a new one. Despite having updated her gender markers on various forms of identification over the past decade, Schafer never changed the gender on her birth certificate, leading to the reversion of the marker.

“It’s not just talk,” she said. “This is real. And it’s happening. No one, no matter their circumstance, no matter how wealthy or white or pretty or whatever, is excluded. This is real.”

Schafer emphasized that resistance is always an option. “I don’t give a f*ck that they put an ‘M’ on my passport,” she added. “It doesn’t change really anything about me or my transness. However, it does make life a little harder. I’m pretty sure it’s gonna come along with having to out myself to border patrol agents and that whole gig much more often than I would like to or is really necessary.”

She ended her video with an uplifting message for the transgender community. “Trans people are beautiful. We are never going to stop existing. We are never going to stop being trans. A letter on a passport can’t change that… and f*ck this administration.”

Schafer uploaded the video to her TikTok story, but it was quickly removed. Links to the video displayed a message reading, “Page not available.” It remains unclear whether Schafer took it down herself or if TikTok removed it.
