Connor Storrie’s Pre-Heated Rivalry Thriller ‘April X’ Gets a Nov. 3 Digital Release

The thriller arrives on U.S. digital platforms Nov. 3. It offers a look at Storrie’s work before Heated Rivalry made him a breakout star.

Before he was Ilya Rozanov, Connor Storrie was Bax, a guy tearing apart a crumbling, post-Soviet city looking for his twin sister. That movie, the sci-fi thriller April X, hits digital platforms in the U.S. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, When To Stream reported. This is a digital home release, not an announced subscription-streaming debut. It’s already listed on Apple TV and Amazon.

The film had a limited theatrical run starting Oct. 2, according to Rotten Tomatoes. If your local theater skipped it, this is your chance.

What “April X” Is About

Michel K. Parandi directed and co-wrote it with Jack Coulton. Lilly Krug plays April, the twin who vanishes. The search pulls Bax into a criminal world and threatens his sense of reality. They filmed in Romania. Apple TV lists the digital edition at 96 minutes.

Storrie made it before Heated Rivalry turned him into the internet’s favorite Russian hockey player. Parandi says he called it anyway.

“I remember telling everybody early on that he was going to be a movie star,” the director told Variety, in an interview excerpted by Landmark Cinemas. Parandi said he saw about 100 actors for the part, and Storrie was one of the first few through the door. “He was very comfortable, very natural during the audition,” he said. “Connor was the most solid performance I’ve ever had.”

“April X” Reviews on Rotten Tomatoes

As of Oct. 27, Rotten Tomatoes lists a 25% critics’ score from 12 reviews and a 56% audience score from more than 50 ratings. Those numbers can change as reviews come in. In review excerpts collected by Rotten Tomatoes, Erik Piepenburg of The New York Times called Storrie “the film’s savior, giving a tender and sympathetic performance.” Common Sense Media’s Tara McNamara was harsher on the movie, calling it “a chaotic jumble of recycled sci-fi DNA.”

The film opened the 2026 Raindance Film Festival in London.

Connor Storrie’s Busy Year

It’s been a lot for the 26-year-old from Aurora, Colorado. He hosted Saturday Night Live in February and got an Emmy nomination for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for it. Heated Rivalry Season 2 is expected in 2027, and he has two A24 films, Peaked and Please, on the way.

His Heated Rivalry co-star Hudson Williams is busy too, with his AMC+ series Yaga.
