Hudson Williams is leaving the hockey rink for a town filled with sex, secrets, and ancient magic. If the first trailer is anything to go by, things are about to get seriously twisted.
AMC+ has released the first teaser for Yaga, a dark new mystery thriller inspired by the Slavic legend of Baba Yaga. The eight-episode series also stars Schitt’s Creek favorite Noah Reid, The Matrix icon Carrie-Anne Moss, and The Changeling star Clark Backo.
Here’s what we know so far about the series: There are strange rituals, bloody discoveries, plenty of suspicious townspeople, and just enough shirtless Williams to keep everyone paying attention.
What Is ‘Yaga’ About?
Reid stars as Rapp, a private investigator who travels to the small coastal town of Whittock after Henry Park, the heir to a powerful local fishery, disappears. Williams plays Henry, whose absence pulls Rapp into a complicated web of hidden identities, dangerous desires, and possible supernatural forces.
The investigation brings Rapp into conflict with Carson, a cautious local detective played by Backo, and Katherine, a magnetic university professor played by Moss. Katherine has an interest in younger men and may know far more about the town’s secrets than she is willing to reveal.
As Rapp searches for answers, the case blurs the line between a missing-person mystery and something much older. The legend of Baba Yaga hangs over the story, but the series appears ready to play with expectations about who the real threat might be.

Hudson Williams Takes on Two Roles
Williams is pulling double duty in the series as Henry and Logan, two men with very different energies. A first-look Polaroid shared by the streamer showed Henry flashing a confident smile in a colorful striped sweater, while Logan looked noticeably more reserved in glasses and a denim jacket.
The project marks one of Williams’ first major television roles following his breakout performance as closeted hockey star Shane Hollander in Crave’s Heated Rivalry. That romance turned Williams and co-star Connor Storrie into two of television’s buzziest new names, and both are expected to return for the show’s second season in April 2027.
Crave also produced Yaga, giving Williams another chance to step into a very different kind of complicated character. This time, instead of a secret romance unfolding on the ice, he is at the center of a mystery involving lust, murder and a legendary witch. Casual!
A Modern Spin on Baba Yaga
The series comes from writer and showrunner Kat Sandler, who adapted it from her stage play of the same name. Sandler also serves as an executive producer alongside Moss, Mackenzie Donaldson and Andrew Miller. David Frazee and Rachel Talalay directed the series.
The ensemble includes Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky, Patrick Gilmore, Katharine Isabelle, Hiro Kanagawa, Emilija Baranac, Georgia Acken, Anisa Harris and Sam Krochmal.
Before its streaming debut, Yaga will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 17. The cast and creative team will then bring the series to New York Comic Con for a panel on Oct. 9.
Yaga premieres with two episodes Oct. 23 exclusively on AMC+ in the United States. New episodes will arrive Fridays, leading to a two-episode finale Nov. 27.
