After years of silence, HBO has confirmed that “Euphoria” will return in April, marking the end of a gap so wide fans could have earned a diploma from East Highland and moved on to grad school. The series hasn’t aired a full season since early 2022, leaving viewers with cliffhangers and unanswered questions that have grown more chaotic with time.

Series creator Sam Levinson previewed the new season during an HBO Max event in London, offering the first substantial look at where the story picks up. Instead of sliding directly back into the old timeline, the show jumps ahead several years, letting its characters grow up, or, in some cases, fall apart.

Where Everyone Landed

Zendaya returns as Rue, who is now in Mexico and indebted to Laurie. Levinson said the season begins with Rue trying to solve a problem she can’t outrun, pushing her into a darker corner of the world.

Meanwhile, Cassie and Nate have taken their turbulent relationship someplace few expected: the suburbs. The pair is engaged, and Cassie’s obsession with social media has only intensified. Levinson noted that their wedding does happen, promising it will be a night viewers will not forget.

Other familiar faces have also moved on with their lives. Jules is in art school and struggling with both her confidence and her desire to avoid responsibility. Maddy is working at a Hollywood talent agency while pursuing side gigs that keep her connected to her old flair. Lexi has become an assistant to a showrunner played by Sharon Stone, who joins the cast this season.

New Faces Join the Madness

Season 3 expands its ensemble with notable additions including Stone, Rosalía, Trisha Paytas, Natasha Lyonne, Danielle Deadwyler, Eli Roth and Marshawn Lynch. HBO’s cast list also features Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Toby Wallace, James Landry Hébert, Asante Blackk and several others, marking one of the show’s largest introductions of new talent.

Not returning this season are Austin Abrams, Algee Smith and Storm Reid, who shared in November that her character, Gia, sits this chapter out. Barbie Ferreira exited the series earlier, and Angus Cloud, beloved for his role as Fezco, died in 2023.

A Cultural Force Comes Back

Since its debut, “Euphoria” has built a reputation for its raw look at addiction, identity and the consequences of reckless decisions. It became HBO’s biggest hit outside the network’s fantasy and dystopian juggernauts, and helped propel its young cast into global stardom.

With a significant time jump, a reconfigured ensemble and storylines that push the characters into unfamiliar territory, Season 3 aims to reset the world of “Euphoria” without losing its bite.

Fans will finally step back into that world in April, ready or not.
