When JADE stepped behind the desk at NPR for her long-awaited Tiny Desk debut, she didn’t waste the opportunity trying to recreate arena-sized pop spectacle in miniature. Instead, the former Little Mix member leaned into intimacy, reshaping some of the biggest songs from THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY! into something warmer, looser and unexpectedly emotional.
Released May 11, the performance immediately sparked buzz online as fans praised JADE’s live vocals, stage presence and ability to reinvent tracks already known for their polished production. For an artist whose solo era has been built on theatrical pop and high-drama visuals, the Tiny Desk setting offered a different kind of challenge, and she handled it with ease.
A Tiny Desk Set With Big Personality
JADE’s setlist balanced fan favorites with deeper cuts, opening with “Midnight Cowboy” before moving into “Fantasy,” “Silent Disco,” “Plastic Box” and the breakout hit “Angel Of My Dreams.”
The arrangements stripped back many of the electronic layers from the studio recordings, giving the songs a more organic feel. “Fantasy” became funkier and more playful, while “Plastic Box” carried extra emotional weight in the quieter setting. By the time she reached “Angel Of My Dreams,” the performance felt less like a promotional stop and more like an artist fully settling into her own identity.
That evolution has been central to JADE’s solo success over the last year. After spending more than a decade as part of one of the UK’s biggest girl groups, she entered her solo era with a sharper creative voice and a stronger sense of experimentation.
Her debut album, THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY!, quickly became one of the most talked-about pop releases of 2025. The record earned the biggest opening week for a debut album in the UK last year and helped launch singles including “Fantasy,” “IT girl,” “FUFN” and “Angel Of My Dreams.”
From Pop Star to Pop Auteur
Part of what’s made JADE’s solo transition stand out is how involved she’s been in shaping the sound and visual world around the project. Collaborating with producers and writers including RAYE, Cirkut and Mike Sabath, JADE built an album that bounced between satire, vulnerability and full-scale pop without losing cohesion.
Critics responded enthusiastically. The album landed on several year-end best-of lists and helped earn JADE the 2025 Brit Awards trophy for Best Pop Act. She later picked up additional nominations in 2026, including British Artist of the Year.
The momentum hasn’t slowed down since.
Earlier this year, JADE wrapped a sold-out headlining tour that took her across North America and Europe, with stops in cities including Los Angeles, New York City, Toronto and Paris. She later expanded the album with THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY! THE ENCORE, a deluxe release featuring new tracks including “Church” and her cover of Madonna’s “Frozen.”
Festival Season Is About To Get Very Gay
JADE’s Tiny Desk debut also arrives just before a packed summer festival run that includes several major LGBTQ+ events and fan-favorite festivals.
One of the biggest stops comes June 7 at the OUTLOUD Music Festival during WeHo Pride in West Hollywood. She’ll also appear at Primavera Sound, Lollapalooza and Outside Lands throughout the summer.
For queer pop fans especially, JADE’s rise has felt refreshing. Her music embraces camp without treating it like a gimmick, and her performances consistently balance humor with sincerity. That mix has helped her build a devoted LGBTQ+ fanbase that’s followed her from the girl group era into this more adventurous chapter.
Tiny Desk performances often reveal whether a pop star can connect without elaborate staging or production tricks. JADE’s debut made one thing clear: the songs hold up on their own. And more importantly, so does she.
