A Reality Show That Defined a Generation

Created by Liz Gateley, Laguna Beach aired on MTV from 2004 to 2006. The show documented the real-life experiences of affluent high school students in Laguna Beach, California, capturing their friendships, romances and teenage drama. Conrad, Cavallari and Colletti were central to the series’ early love triangle, which became one of the show’s most talked-about storylines.

The show’s influence extended beyond its three-season run, spawning two spin-offs. The Hills followed Conrad’s move to Los Angeles to launch a career in fashion and aired from 2006 to 2010, with Cavallari taking over as lead after Conrad’s departure. The City (2008–2010) spotlighted Whitney Port as she pursued a fashion career in New York City, further cementing MTV’s reality TV foothold.

Behind the Reunion

Gateley, who will executive-produce the Roku special alongside the cast, said the reunion has been a long time coming. “When I first pitched the show to my bosses at MTV, never in a million years did I think we would find such a perfect group of real friends,” Gateley said. “Partnering with Roku to bring this cast back 20 years later is a dream come true.”

Brian Tannenbaum, head of Roku Originals, described the reunion as a cultural milestone. “Laguna Beach wasn’t just a series; it defined a generation and shaped reality TV as we know it. Giving streamers a front-row seat to this reunion is incredibly exciting.”

Cast Celebrates on Social Media

The original stars have already shared their excitement online. Conrad posted throwback photos from their senior prom, captioning them: “Let’s go back to the beginning… Reuniting the cast of Laguna Beach, coming to the Roku Channel in 2026.”

Colletti also shared nostalgic images, including a Season 1 DVD photo, while Cavallari mirrored Conrad’s post, writing: “Guessssss what!!!! The OG cast of Laguna Beach is back for a reunion special! It’ll be on Roku in 2026. Going back to the beginning!”

For fans of early-2000s reality television, the reunion promises a mix of nostalgia, reflection and the same teenage drama that made Laguna Beach a cultural touchstone.
