Billie Eilish Says She is “Attracted to Women For Real”

Billie Eilish openly acknowledged her attraction to women, prompting fans to question why the singer has to repeatedly declare her sexual orientation to the public.

From playfully employing a filter proclaiming “gay and tired” to openly discussing her celebrity crushes, Eilish has consistently expressed her attraction to women without feeling the need to confine herself to any specific labels. But if there was any doubt, the “bad guy” singer affirmed her stance in a recent interview with Variety.

“I’ve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well,” she said. “I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real.

“I’m physically attracted to them,” she added. “But I’m also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.”

Eilish has faced scrutiny for her appearance and her sexuality since we first heard her sing “Ocean Eyes” in 2015.

“I’ve never felt like a woman, to be honest with you. I’ve never felt desirable. I’ve never felt feminine,” she told the outlet. “I have to convince myself that I’m, like, a pretty girl.”

The interview, which serves as part of Variety‘s ‘The Power of Women’ issue, continues with the “What Was I Made For?” singer speaking on her choice to wear baggy clothes at the beginning of her career and how it had nothing to do with being sexualized. Eilish kicked off her career at 16 and she’s only 21 now. It’s eye-opening to witness how demanding the industry can be, especially for young artists.

Billie Eilish Talks Celebrity Crushes and Being “Fruity”

As many fans were quick to point out, the Variety interview is not the first time Eilish has hinted about her sexuality.

In a Q&A with fans on her Instagram stories earlier this year, Eilish dropped several hints about her attraction to women.

When one fan asked, “Who’s your celebrity crush?” she responded with a simple snapshot of Maya Hawke, known for her roles in Stranger Things and Do Revenge. Then, another fan asked, “Fruity?” And Eilish had a cheeky comeback, sharing a pic of all sorts of fruits.

Netflix’s ‘NYAD’: Diana Nyad’s Inspirational Story of Tenacity and Friendship

Get ready for an extraordinary cinematic journey as we dive headfirst into the life of Diana Nyad in Netflix’s new film NYAD.

Directed by the dynamic duo of Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, NYAD is not just a sports film; it’s a remarkable true story of tenacity, friendship, and the indomitable human spirit. Diana Nyad, a world-class athlete, sets her sights on a seemingly impossible challenge at 60: swimming 110 miles from Cuba to Florida, a journey often dubbed the “Mount Everest” of swims. Her goal? To conquer this treacherous stretch of water without the protection of a shark cage.

Diana embarks on a thrilling four-year journey with her unwavering determination, accompanied by her best friend and coach, Bonnie Stoll. Together, they face the open sea, fierce currents, and the ever-present threat of sharks. It’s a story of courage and perseverance that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Chatting with the Creators of NYAD

Gayety caught up with Stoll about the opportunity to turn Diana’s story into a theatrical film.

“It’s an honor that we get to know Diana through this unbelievable film,” she told editor Caitlynn McDaniel. “We certainly don’t get to know all of Diana. She’s just a pretty fabulous person.”

The film not only chronicles Diana’s courageous swim but also effectively humanizes her by portraying the defining events that shaped her character.

“The parts that were chosen to fixate on in the story, they so worked. They so worked because there’s an arc, and she does change. And the change in her life… it’s sort of equal to the way her life has been. I think it’s a real tribute, real tribute to Diana, to us as friends and to everybody involved in the film.”

Bringing Strong, Queer Woman into the Spotlight

Director Chai Vasarhelyi said creating a balance between action and humanity was a great adventure.

“It’s always tricky because the tone of this film was really important because we wanted to treat her traumatic experiences with great respect,” she said. “We didn’t want to diminish them. At the same time, we wanted to celebrate the type of friendship that you don’t often get to see in films.”

NYAD captures a heartwarming friendship between two older queer women, a relationship often underrepresented in Hollywood.

“But when you’re working with the caliber of talent like Annette Bening and Jody Foster, it’s just so empowering because you have these performances that bring such depth and commitment to them.”

The film boasts an impressive cast that includes four-time Academy Award nominee Annette Bening as Diana Nyad herself. Joining her is the two-time Academy Award-winning actress Jodie Foster, who plays Bonnie Stoll.

“Annette trained for over a year for the physical demands, and also Annette was unafraid of showing a woman who may not be always likable. So it was fun and it was hard, and we had a wonderful team, but we were afforded the time to try to get it right.”

Filming From the Water

Not only did this film require a lot of manpower to create an accurate story, it also required working in strenuous environments for days on end.

“It’s absolutely true what people say that shooting in water is the most difficult environment to shoot in,” said co-director Jimmy Chin. “And not only did we face the challenges logistically of how to shoot in the water, but we were also really hoping to push the cinematography. So we spent a lot of time on the storyboards on getting the right equipment and actually pushing the technology available to be able to shoot the way that we shot, and really try to, on one end, to capture the scope and scale of this huge ocean and this little person trying to swim across it. But we also wanted to get uptight and close and bring people into the moment with Diana’s experience. So that was a good challenge for us.”

NYAD marks the narrative directorial debut of the Academy Award-winning documentary duo, Vasarhelyi and Chin, known for their acclaimed work on films like Free Solo and The Rescue. With a screenplay by Julia Cox, adapted from Diana Nyad’s memoir “Find a Way,” this film promises to be a cinematic marvel that will inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.

NYAD is streaming now on Netflix. Watch our interviews below!

If you’re wondering how this is possible with the SAG strike still going strong, don’t worry, no actors are crossing the line.

The guild has officially been on strike for over 100 days as they attempt to strike a deal with the AMPTP. But we should be hearing updates on their last offer very soon.

In the meantime, The Hunger Games prequel was given a waiver to have a premiere, an opportunity only made possible because Lionsgate is not part of the AMPTP.

See Tigris in action!

Despite the upcoming premiere, critics are already showering the film with online acclaim. Personally, we are eager to see Schafer back on our screens. Watch a clip of the actress as Tigris below.

When ‘All Of Us Strangers’ Director Spotted Paul & Andrew’s Connection

“They were just talking to each other, putting their arms around each other, and you could tell that they really liked each other.”

Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott are the leads in an upcoming queer fantasy film, All Of Us Strangers. Though the film won’t hit theaters until late this December, critics are already raving about the intense chemistry between Mescal and Scott, something director Andrew Haigh picked up on early during filming.

Haigh sat down with Scott Feinberg at the American Film Institute to chat all about the new film. “We basically went to a concert together in London and I could tell that they were really into each other because they completely ignored me most of the day,” he recalled.

“They were just talking to each other, putting their arms around each other, and you could tell that they really liked each other.”

Later in the interview, Haigh said the two remained really close friends even after filming, and even celebrated Scott’s birthday together.

“I did not get invited,” he joked.

Ah yes, we are very familiar with Scott’s big night out to a gay bar to celebrate his 47th year. The photos blew up on gay Twitter. But, it’s nice to know the two actors are getting along so well both off and on the screen.

“If you can get actors that want to work with each other, that care about working with each other then there’s chemistry already there,” Haign continued. Needless to say, this is one movie you won’t want to miss.

About All Of Us Strangers

All of Us Strangers is an adaptation of the Japanese novel of the same name by Taichi Yamada. It follows Adam (Scott), a man living in a lonely tower block in London. When Adam has a chance encounter with his neighbor Harry (Mescal), his whole world is turned upside down. Though sparks fly between the London boys, not everything is as simple as it seems. Adam “is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town where he grew up and the childhood home where his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) appear to be living, just as they were on the day they died, 30 years before.”

According to reviews, the film is filled with sweet sex scenes, talks of grief and falling in love, and a chaotic nightclub sequence.

Céline Dion Makes First Public Appearance in Four Years After Health Diagnosis

Beloved music legend Céline Dion has been out of the public eye for over three years after she announced her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis in 2022.

Dion broke the news to her fans through an Instagram video last December. The diagnosis forced her to cancel her 2023-2024 world tour.

“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through,” she said.

Apart from a few social media posts, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer has been keeping out of the spotlight and staying home to rest. But, she was recently spotted on a rare outing with her three sons to a hockey game.

“My boys and I had such a fun time visiting with the Montreal Canadiens after their hockey game with Vegas Golden Knights in Las Vegas Monday night,” she wrote alongside a photo of her family. “They played so well, what a game!! Thank you for meeting us after the game, guys! That was memorable for all of us. Have a great season!”

Though the Canadiens ultimately lost the game, Dion was all smiles as she met the team in the locker room after. The 55-year-old was joined by her sons René-Charles, 22, and 13-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson.

Céline Dion’s Health Diagnosis

Stiff-person syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms. It’s an incurable disease that affects one in every one million people.

“Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life,” Dion said in the video. “Sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”

Dion said she hopes to reschedule the tour, but is focusing on her health and family at this time.

“For me to reach you again, I have no choice but to concentrate on my health at this moment,” she continued. “And I have hope that I’m on the road to recovery.”

It’s wonderful to see her spreading love and smiles with the world again. We love you, Céline!

Rett Madison on ‘One for Jackie’: Sharing a Tribute Album with a Message of Solace

Queer artist Rett Madison released her second studio album One for Jackie, a touching tribute to her late mother, who passed by suicide in 2019.

“Because songwriting really started as something that was almost like a diary entry for myself, and it was a very therapeutic process for me to express my emotions in that way. I feel like I was really writing the songs from a place in which I needed to heal myself first, and then I figured, you know what if this has helped me just to express what I’m going through, why not share it with more people?”

Madison Talks Love and Grief

Madison released One for Jackie on October 27, following her first album, Pin-Up Daddy in 2021. While the previous album delved into themes such as queerness, religious trauma, and shame, this project weaves a singular, cohesive narrative.

“There’s a few other songs that I have in there that are about meeting my partner that I’m still with currently and falling in love in the midst of grief,” she told Gayety. “But there’s definitely that through line, through every song of just that chapter of mourning my mom and reconciling with her no longer being here.”

Madison said her mother struggled with PTSD, depression and alcoholism all her life. Crafting and unveiling this album became a powerful catalyst for her healing journey, and she aspires to ignite a beacon of hope for those also grappling with grief.

“I remember while I was really in the midst of this early phases of grieving my mom, how much I clung to the discographies and songs of other artists that were candidly speaking about grief. And even though I was in so much pain and I was so sad, just to hear another artist speak to that experience that I was having at the time really carried me through. Especially those first six months with my mom no longer being here.

“So I’m just hoping to add this record to kind of offered up to other folks that are mourning their loved ones, and I hope it can be a soundtrack for them to know that they’re not alone in this.”

Being Vulnerable

Taking musical inspiration from Stevie Nicks, Cheryl Crow, and Dolly Parton, One for Jackie has twelve tracks with soft psychedelic rhythms and openhearted lyrics.

“I’ve found that being vulnerable and being open tended to connect with people and comfort other people, and it felt more like an active service in that way,” Madison said.

Madison fearlessly embraces candor and vulnerability in her songwriting, which includes sharing stories and experiences from her life as a queer person.

“It’s been very rewarding to go play shows and sing so openly about my own queerness and my own experiences and meet people afterwards that resonate with those topics and messages, especially younger people. I think the older I get, I feel like there’s this sense within myself that I want to continue to speak openly about my queerness and about my formative experiences as a queer person through my art, because I wanted to reach younger queer people that are grappling with their identities or coming out or being queer within their communities. I remember what it was like when I was a younger person going through that myself. So I just want to be a voice… Obviously I’m putting my own voice out there, but if it resonates with other people and younger people, I don’t know. That’s the most rewarding part of it.”

You can listen to Rett Madison’s One for Jackie here! And be sure to snag tickets to one of Madison’s upcoming tour dates happening this year.
