Few drag performers straddle Broadway and nightlife with the finesse of Plasma. The RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16 alum, affectionately dubbed “The New Broadway Baby of Drag Race” by BroadwayWorld, has announced her debut live album Is Miss Thing On? (Live from Joe’s Pub) out November 7 via Joy Machine Records.

The project’s first single, a duet with Tony and GRAMMY winner J. Harrison Ghee titled “That’s Life,” drops October 10 with a music video to follow.

A Drag Star With a Show Tune Soul

Recording a live album as a debut is a rare move, one that no other Drag Race contestant has attempted. But for Plasma, the stage is home. Known for her crisp vocals, old-Hollywood charm, and quick wit, the performer transforms her cabaret act into a full-fledged musical memoir.

Is Miss Thing On? includes theater standards, jazz classics, and one original number titled “80 or Above,” a cheeky, self-reflective song exploring her relationships with love and alcohol. The album threads together personal stories, live banter, and emotional revelations, giving listeners a night at Joe’s Pub without ever leaving home.

“This album is a love letter to my truest self, the unafraid, spontaneous Plasma you and I both love to see,” she said in a statement. “I’ve always been a live performer at heart, and that energy can’t be faked in a studio.”

From ‘Drag Race’ to Joe’s Pub

After wowing audiences on Drag Race, Plasma became a viral sensation with her Funny Girl tribute “Don’t Rain On My Parade.” She later serenaded Jinkx Monsoon on Logo with a stirring rendition of “Happy Days Are Here Again,” solidifying her reputation as a cabaret powerhouse.

Her upcoming live album, recorded July 28, 2025, with the Benjamin Young Band, marks the next evolution of that theatrical journey. Produced by Plasma, Jackie Huba, Alex Grippo, and Benjamin Young, the project captures the intimacy of a live show and the grandeur of Broadway rolled into one queer spectacle.

A Love Letter to Queer Performance

Beyond the music, Is Miss Thing On? is a celebration of community. Between her tongue-in-cheek jokes and heartfelt reflections, Plasma uses the album to highlight the resilience and artistry of queer performers at a time when LGBTQ+ visibility remains vital.

Raised in Mount Pleasant, Texas, and now based in New York, Plasma grew up idolizing icons like Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, and Julie Andrews. Today, she channels that same legacy, combining classic glamour with modern-day drag irreverence.

As she continues to tour globally, Plasma’s message remains clear: Broadway might be her inspiration, but the queer stage is her home.
