The man accused of reducing a child to tears during a hotel encounter involving Chappell Roan is now speaking publicly, and taking responsibility for his actions.

Pascal Duvier, the security guard at the center of the viral moment, is pushing back on claims that he was working for the pop star when the incident unfolded in Brazil.

“I Take Full Responsibility”

In a statement shared March 25, Duvier addressed the growing backlash head-on, making it clear that his actions were his own.

“I take full responsibility for the interactions,” he said, before drawing a firm line between himself and Roan’s team.

“I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan,” he continued. “The actions I took were not on behalf of Chappell Roan, her personal security team, her management, or any other individuals.”

The statement arrives after days of speculation online, where many had assumed the guard was acting under direction from the singer.

A “Judgment Call” That Sparked Backlash

Duvier went on to explain what led to the interaction, describing it as a split-second decision influenced by the environment around him.

“I made a judgment call based on information we obtained from the hotel, events I had witnessed in the days prior and the heightened overall security risk of our location,” he said.

Despite standing by his reasoning, he acknowledged the outcome missed the mark.

“My sole interaction with the mother was calm and with good intentions, and the outcome of the encounter is regretful.”

That outcome has since fueled widespread criticism, especially after details about the child involved began circulating.

The Incident That Went Viral

The moment in question involved the 11-year-old daughter of actor Jude Law and singer Catherine Harding. According to the family, the girl had simply glanced at Roan while passing her table at a hotel in São Paulo.

Her stepfather, soccer star Jorginho, later shared that the situation escalated when a security guard approached and reprimanded both the child and her mother. He claimed the exchange left the girl visibly shaken.

The account quickly spread online, with many directing frustration toward Roan, before the singer clarified her role.

Roan Previously Distanced Herself

Roan has already addressed the situation, stating she was unaware of the interaction as it happened and did not request any intervention.

She also confirmed that the guard was not part of her team, aligning with Duvier’s account.

While Roan has since expressed regret over how the situation unfolded, Duvier’s statement marks the first time the guard himself has publicly taken accountability.

A Shift in the Narrative

With Duvier now stepping forward, the focus of the story has shifted. What was initially framed as a celebrity-fan interaction has evolved into something more complicated—raising questions about security boundaries in shared public spaces.

His statement doesn’t undo the moment, but it does reframe responsibility.

And in a story that escalated quickly, that distinction matters.
