Snoop Dogg is back in the spotlight with a renewed focus on LGBTQ+ advocacy and HIV awareness, signaling a clear effort to strengthen ties with the community after earlier public missteps. The rapper and cultural icon made a surprise appearance at Jackson State University for GLAAD’s “Generation Z & HIV: Human Issue. Southern Solution. An HBCU Tour,” using the platform to educate, connect, and celebrate LGBTQ+ families.

The event, produced by GLAAD’s Director of Local News: U.S. South, Darian Aaron, gathered students, activists, and public health leaders to address HIV prevention and dismantle stigma among young people in the South. For Snoop, the tour was more than a performance, it was a chance to demonstrate growth and commitment to causes affecting LGBTQ+ youth and families.

From Lightyear Controversy to Advocacy

Earlier this year, Snoop made headlines after admitting he felt “scared” when his grandson questioned LGBTQ+ representation in Pixar’s Lightyear. The rapper had confessed he wasn’t prepared to talk about same-sex parents during the family outing, sparking conversation about media exposure and parenting.

Now, Snoop seems to be turning that experience into action. At Jackson State, he openly celebrated LGBTQ+ families, emphasizing that love is the core of every household. “It’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be shown love… whether it be two fathers, two mothers, whatever it is, love is the key,” Snoop said in a conversation with Aaron.

By acknowledging the diversity of families and highlighting the importance of representation, Snoop is reinforcing a supportive message for young LGBTQ+ audiences, showing growth from a personal moment of uncertainty to public advocacy.

Tackling HIV Knowledge Gaps in Generation Z

The HBCU tour also centered on educating young people about HIV, a pressing health issue that disproportionately affects Southern communities. Research shows Generation Z is the most openly LGBTQ+ generation, yet awareness about HIV remains limited: only 37% of young adults feel knowledgeable about the virus.

During a fireside chat, Snoop discussed the fear and confusion surrounding HIV in the early epidemic. “There was no medical information to let us know what was going on. We were so scared, we stopped everything,” he said, reflecting on the early years of the crisis.

Panels featuring Mississippi-based HIV advocates shared practical advice on prevention, testing, and the latest medical tools such as PrEP, a daily pill or newly approved biannual injection that reduces the risk of contracting HIV by nearly 99% when taken as prescribed. By combining factual information with engaging discussion, the initiative aims to dismantle stigma and empower young people with tools to protect themselves and their communities.

Building Bridges Through Music and Mentorship

Snoop has also been supporting LGBTQ+ youth through mentorship and music. Earlier this month, he partnered with GLAAD for Spirit Day, hosting an intimate conversation with singer Jeremy Beloate. They discussed overcoming bullying, supporting LGBTQ+ families, and collaborating creatively — showing that advocacy can be personal as well as public.

Through these partnerships and appearances, Snoop Dogg is making it clear that his engagement with the LGBTQ+ community is both meaningful and consistent. He is using his platform to champion acceptance, educate the next generation, and raise awareness about HIV, proving that even the biggest stars can take big steps toward social change.

Snoop Dogg’s journey from expressing discomfort over LGBTQ+ representation in a children’s movie to actively supporting inclusive families and HIV education shows his evolution as a public figure. By partnering with GLAAD and engaging HBCU students, he’s taking tangible steps to repair and strengthen his relationship with the LGBTQ+ community.

Through these efforts, Snoop is proving that advocacy isn’t just about words, it’s about action, education, and showing up for communities that need support. For fans, students, and LGBTQ+ youth alike, his message is clear: growth is possible, love is essential, and standing up for inclusion matters.
