Tom Daley arrived for his drag makeover with one very important piece of the look already handled: the dress.

The Olympic diving champion knitted it himself, bringing a little of his familiar creativity to an experience that would leave him struggling to recognize his own reflection. With RuPaul’s Drag Race star Plastique Tiara handling the transformation, Daley emerged in a mint-green dress, a long blonde braid and a full face of makeup as his new drag persona, Lady Godiva.

And yes, there is a diving joke built into that name.

“Welcome to the stage… Lady Godiva, she’s a really good diver,” Daley wrote on Instagram. “I still can’t believe this is me! THANK YOU @plastiquetiara.”

For someone who has spent years being photographed on diving platforms and beside swimming pools, it was a dramatically different kind of reveal. But the handmade outfit made the whole thing feel unmistakably Tom.

A Longtime Drag Race Fan Takes a Turn in the Chair

Daley, 32, joined Tiara for a YouTube makeover that gave him the chance to try something he had wanted to do for years.

“I’ve always watched Drag Race, and I’ve always wanted to get into drag,” he said in the video.

He had experimented with individual parts of a look before, but putting them all together was new territory.

“This will genuinely be my first time. I’ve put on a wig, I’ve put on heels – because who hasn’t – but I’ve never had a full face.”

Daley has previously appeared as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, watching queens present the results of their work. This time, he was the one getting the full transformation.

Tiara’s makeover brought together the elements that make a drag look feel complete: hair, makeup, shape and an outfit that works with the finished character. The dress was ready, but Lady Godiva still had to come to life.

Naturally, He Made His Own Dress

The dress deserves its own moment.

Daley’s mint-green creation featured a fitted silhouette and flared sleeves, with the knitted texture giving the outfit a softer finish. Paired with the long braid draped over one shoulder, it made for a look with a little fairy-tale drama.

It also gave the makeover something personal. Rather than simply arriving and stepping into a ready-made outfit, Daley contributed a piece he had created with his own hands.

For followers familiar with his knitting, that detail was probably as satisfying as the makeup reveal. The craft has become a recognizable part of his public life, and here it supplied the centerpiece of a completely new look.

Lady Godiva Gets Her Reveal

Once the hair and makeup were finished, the transformation was striking.

The blonde braid, defined eyes and fitted knit dress created a look far removed from Daley’s usual short hair and athletic wardrobe. Even Daley appeared surprised by how the pieces came together.

In the longer YouTube video the diver shared, he even calls up his husband, Dustin Lance Black, to get his reaction tot he look.

“Oh my god, I’m straight now!” he gushed at seeing Daley’s makeup and hair. “I always knew you were gonna make a beautiful woman but… this is exceptional.” They then joked about picking up their two kids from school with Daley dressed in drag and honestly, we love that idea. Daley later shared images with the dress removed while keeping the hair and makeup in place. His arms and Olympic rings tattoo were visible, putting familiar features alongside the new styling.

Lady Godiva was getting more than one photo opportunity, that’s for sure.

The Conversation Gets More Personal

Between the makeup and the reveal, Daley also spoke about his experience with body dysmorphia and difficulties with eating around 2012.

“I’ve spoken about it a couple of times around body dysmorphia,” he said. “I had a few eating disorder things around 2012.”

He described knowing rationally that he was in good shape while still navigating concerns about his body and the judgments people make online.

The comments added a more vulnerable dimension to a video filled with excitement about appearance. Daley was trying a new way of presenting himself while also acknowledging that being comfortable with how he looks has not always been straightforward.

For an athlete whose body has been photographed and scrutinized throughout his career, it was a meaningful part of the conversation. His account allowed the makeover to hold both experiences: the fun of seeing an unfamiliar reflection and the complicated feelings that can accompany being seen.

The Comments Section Joins the Celebration

The response to Lady Godiva included some familiar names.

Michelle Visage wrote, “YOU ARE UNREAL,” while the official RuPaul’s Drag Race Instagram account celebrated the transformation with “This ruveal!” Adam Lambert added flame emojis.

It was an enthusiastic reception for a look that combined Tiara’s makeup artistry with Daley’s own handiwork. The finished photos offered plenty to admire, but following the process gave the reveal its personality: a longtime fan finally trying a full face, bringing his own knitted dress and discovering what the result could look like.

Daley’s caption captured the surprise best. Even after the makeup, the hair and the photos, he still could not quite believe it was him. Watch the full transformation below.
