Alexander Skarsgård‘s shoes are leaving nothing to the imagination.
The actor attended the Wicker screening at the BFI London Film Festival on Thursday, Oct. 8, in a gold Saint Laurent suit, skipping a shirt and finishing the look with transparent lace-up shoes. Yes, transparent. Even his toes got an invitation.
The metallic suit alone would have earned our attention, but Skarsgård has developed a habit of going one step further. His red carpet wardrobe is playful, occasionally provocative, and always worth a closer look. Naturally, a movie about an unconventional romance deserves a little unconventional footwear.
From leather to wicker
Skarsgård’s previous role gave him plenty of opportunities to experiment with fashion. In Pillion, he played Ray, a motorcycle gang leader who draws Harry Melling’s Colin into a relationship built on submission, desire, and an unfamiliar world of queer biker culture.
His wardrobe throughout the film’s promotional run became an attraction in its own right, with leather pants, sequins, and short shorts making appearances. At the 2025 Cannes premiere, he wore a Saint Laurent tuxedo jacket with thigh-high leather boots. He understands that promoting a movie can also be an excuse to have fun getting dressed. A man after our own heart.
Now, he’s moving from a leather-clad biker to a husband made entirely of wicker. The range extends well beyond his closet.
Olivia Colman orders a husband
Written and directed by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson, Wicker stars Olivia Colman as a fisherwoman living on the outskirts of a seaside village where her neighbors routinely ridicule her.
Fed up with their judgment, she commissions a husband made from wicker. Enter Skarsgård, playing the partner whose arrival turns her life, and the village’s social order, upside down. Their romance sparks jealousy and outrage among the locals, who apparently have quite a lot to say about someone else’s relationship.
We have to admire a woman who takes her dating frustrations directly to a craftsman.
Peter Dinklage and Elizabeth Debicki also star in the film, which combines its fantastical love story with a look at marriage, desire and the pressure to follow everyone else’s rules.
Between the premise and Skarsgård’s opening red-carpet look, Wicker already gives us plenty to talk about. The film opens in theaters Oct. 23.
