Tove Lo is giving fans another glimpse into her next musical era.
The Swedish pop star has released the official music video for “des fleurs,” her collaboration with Belgian artist Stromae, offering a cinematic preview of what’s to come before her sixth studio album, Estrus, arrives Sept. 18 via Pretty Swede Records and Virgin Music Group.
Directed by Melchior Leroux, the visual leans into the song’s emotional weight with dreamlike imagery and a moody aesthetic that complements the track’s themes. The release follows the recent announcement of Estrus and an international tour that will bring Tove Lo across North America, the United Kingdom and Europe this fall.
A New Chapter Begins
Estrus marks Tove Lo’s first full-length album since Dirt Femme and finds the singer revisiting deeply personal memories while embracing a more instinctive creative approach.
The album’s title comes from the biological term describing when female mammals are in heat, a concept that became the foundation for the record’s exploration of desire, conflict and impulse.
Speaking about the project, Tove Lo explained its central idea.
“Estrus is an animal in heat. It’s primal. It’s my mind and my body wanting different things, wanting everything. There’s no good advice on this album… just a lot of feelings, no solutions.”
Rather than chasing tidy resolutions, the album sits comfortably inside emotional uncertainty, allowing each song to reflect moments of longing, heartbreak and self-discovery.
Returning Home for Inspiration
While creating Estrus, Tove Lo found herself looking backward before moving forward.
Parts of the album were recorded in Los Angeles and Stockholm, but she also returned to the small Swedish fishing village where she spent childhood summers and previously worked on portions of Dirt Femme. Revisiting those familiar places helped reconnect her with formative experiences that shaped both her life and songwriting.
According to the singer, returning home brought memories of growing up, struggles with depression, an eating disorder, difficult relationships, family challenges and loss flooding back. Rather than avoiding those emotions, she leaned into them, using the experience as creative fuel throughout the album.
Musically, Estrus draws inspiration from Scandinavian electronic music, including influences from The Knife and Robyn, while continuing the dance-pop style that has defined much of Tove Lo’s career.
She reunited with longtime collaborator Ludvig Söderberg for the project while also working alongside producers Elvira Anderfjärd and Luka Kloser, whose recent credits include Addison Rae. Stromae joins as one of the album’s featured collaborators, bringing together two of Europe’s most distinctive pop voices on “des fleurs.”
World Tour Kicks Off This Fall
Tove Lo will celebrate the release of Estrus with a series of North American performances beginning Sept. 15 in Nashville before heading overseas for what will be her biggest UK and European shows to date.
Australian artist Mallrat will support the North American dates, while Cobrah joins as a special guest for the Brooklyn stop. Rose Gray will open throughout the UK and European leg.
