Charli XCX is trading neon club lights for stormy moors. The British pop disruptor announced her next single, “House,” arriving Nov. 10, and it’s unlike anything from her Brat universe.
The track marks her first release tied to Emerald Fennell’s upcoming 2026 adaptation of Wuthering Heights, for which Charli serves as composer. In a 10-second teaser, the singer lies motionless on the ground, face-to-face with a crow, as a gravelly male voice, likely belonging to The Velvet Underground co-founder John Cale, murmurs, “Can I speak to you privately for a moment?” over swelling strings.
From “Brat” to the Brontë Hills
Charli announced the track on Instagram, writing, “House featuring @therealjohncale. The first offering from my album for Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Yours, Monday.”
She also shared more about how the project began. “I got a call from Emerald Fennell last Christmas asking if I would consider working on a song for her adaptation,” Charli wrote on her Stories. “I read the script and immediately felt inspired, so Finn Keane and I began writing — not just one but many songs that felt connected to her world. After Brat, I was excited to escape into something entirely new.”
That pivot makes sense for an artist who’s spent the past year redefining pop on her own terms. With Brat, Charli transformed chaotic club culture into high art. Now, she’s bringing that same creative ambition to film, and her gothic turn looks just as audacious.
A Cinematic Rebirth
Charli isn’t just soundtracking Fennell’s dark romance; she’s also conquering the big screen. Her upcoming projects include The Moment, a mockumentary she co-wrote and stars in alongside Alexander Skarsgård and Rosanna Arquette, and The Gallerist, a thriller set during Miami’s Art Basel featuring Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega. She’s also reportedly joining Dakota Johnson’s directorial debut, A Tree Is Blue.
But Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi and slated for Valentine’s Day 2026, might be Charli’s boldest collaboration yet. The film’s teaser already hinted at her eerie compositions, but “House” will give fans their first real taste of her new sound.
The Start of a New Chapter
After dominating clubs and charts with Brat, she’s ready to haunt the halls of literature and film. If the teaser is any indication, Charli’s Wuthering Heights soundtrack will be as dramatic and subversive as her pop persona, just with a little more fog and heartbreak.
“House” drops Nov. 10 on all streaming platforms.
