After nearly a decade of luxury listings, personal drama, and emotional showdowns, Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause is closing the door on the Netflix reality series for good.

In a candid new interview with Bustle published November 7, Stause confirmed that she will not return for the show’s upcoming tenth season, citing the toll it has taken on her mental health.

“I’ve vacillated back and forth with this decision in the past,” she said. “I have to be honest—having come from nothing, it’s really hard to turn something like this down.” But after nine seasons of on-camera conflict, Stause said she’s finally ready to walk away. “I’ve gotten to a place where I don’t need the show financially,” she explained. “I’m lucky to have other forms of employment, because it’s no longer good for my mental health.”

The Selling Sunset star, who joined the series in its first season in 2019, became a fan favorite for her underdog story, witty comebacks, and resilience amid breakups and betrayal. Over time, however, Stause’s relationships with some of her co-stars began to fracture, particularly with fellow agent Emma Hernan.

According to Stause, tensions escalated off-camera over Hernan’s relationship with Blake Davis, who Stause claims made offensive remarks about nonbinary people. “With Emma, I just look like an overbearing friend,” she said. “But there are so many things that would’ve completely vindicated me and my opinion, and they left all of it out.”

The 43-year-old, who married Australian musician G Flip in a surprise Las Vegas ceremony in 2023, also reflected on how her queerness has shaped her post-reality TV path. “Since I’ve come out, I think four or five things I’ve done have all been queer,” she said. “At first I was like, ‘Guys, I can still play straight!’ But to be honest, I want to lean in. Let’s do a holiday movie where I’m leading it and we’re doing queer stories.”

Despite her decision to move on, Stause maintains that she’s leaving Selling Sunset without bitterness. “If they do continue, I wish them the best,” she said. “I don’t want to be bitter about it, even though I’m leaving not in the way that I would’ve loved.”

She admitted that filming the reunion special sealed her choice to walk away once and for all. “After so many hours, I felt like, ‘Sit here, get through it. You’re not a quitter, but you never have to do this again,’” she recalled. “‘And I promise you, to your soul, you won’t.’”

While Stause’s exit marks the end of an era for Selling Sunset, it also marks the beginning of a new chapter, one that embraces queer storytelling, personal peace, and life beyond reality TV.

As she put it herself: this isn’t a closing, just a new kind of opening.
