Doja Cat set the tone for Outside Lands 2025 on Friday night with a glam-meets-grit performance that launched her new musical era, teased her upcoming album Vie, and paid tribute to a beloved San Francisco queer institution.

Taking the main stage at Golden Gate Park, the Grammy-winning artist stunned the crowd with a mix of hits and fresh material, including the live debut of her new single “Jealous Type.” But the biggest surprise of the night came midway through her headlining set: Doja Cat revealed she’d be performing an intimate post-show set at Oasis, the iconic LGBTQ+ nightclub slated to close at the end of the year.

“I’m taking my new project, Vie, to club Oasis,” she told the audience. “See me there. I’ll be playing some new songs and going the f— home.”

The unannounced performance immediately sparked a frenzy online. Oasis confirmed the appearance on Instagram, announcing tickets would be available at the door until the 531-person capacity was met. Video shared by the venue after the show featured Doja Cat in a low-key moment with fans, standing behind a mic and playing a pre-recorded version of an unreleased song titled “Take Me Dancing.”

The late-night Oasis show wasn’t the only cryptic breadcrumb Doja dropped ahead of her Outside Lands return. On Thursday, the artist launched a mysterious “Vie Hotline” (747-246-7262), where fans were greeted by her sultry voice offering offbeat relationship advice with the tagline: “Love is complicated, but calling us isn’t.”

The hotline, along with a retro-glam visual campaign dripping in ’80s melodrama, gave fans a preview of the new aesthetic she brought to the Lands End stage — complete with platinum-blonde hair, neon eye makeup and a zebra-print catsuit straight out of a VHS fever dream.

Opening her set with “Woman,” Doja breezed through a 21-song setlist that included hits like “Paint the Town Red,” “Agora Hills,” “Say So” and “Need to Know.” Alongside “Jealous Type,” she also debuted another new track titled “Boss Bitch.”

“Jealous Type” is produced by Jack Antonoff and Ari Starace. The track has been previously teased in a campaign with Marc Jacobs, hinting that Vie may mark a return to the pop-forward sounds Doja explored before 2023’s rap-heavy Scarlet.

Despite the buzz, Doja’s performance faced stiff competition from overlapping sets by EDM giant John Summit and Beck, who performed alongside members of the San Francisco Symphony. That, combined with minimal production and a measured rollout of new material, made for a more restrained return to the festival circuit.

Still, her presence — and particularly her Oasis cameo — struck a chord in San Francisco’s LGBTQ+ nightlife scene. The venue, long operated by San Francisco Drag Laureate D’Arcy Drollinger, has been a cornerstone of the queer community and is set to close its doors at the end of 2025. Doja’s tribute served as both a send-off and a love letter.

For fans, the night felt like a promise: the beginning of something bold, mysterious and unapologetically Doja.

Doja Cat’s fifth studio album, Vie, does not yet have a confirmed release date.
