The mini-series, which stars Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey, is a gay romance and political thriller set in McCarthy-era Washington.
Fellow Travelers is a Historical Queer Miniseries
The eight-episode drama, based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Mallon, is created by Oscar nominee Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia). The story follows the lives of Hawkins Fuller (Bomer) and Tim Laughlin (Bailey) in a classic example of opposites attract. Fuller is a handsome, charismatic man with a stable political career and no interest in romance. Laughlin, on the other hand, is a highly religious man who prefers idealism over practicality.
The two enter into a romance. However, their love is tested by societal obstacles like Senator Joseph McCarthy’s prosecutions of queer people. The couple also must brave the Vietnam War protests of the 60s, the sexual revolution of the 70s, and the AIDS crisis of the 80s.
In an earlier trailer for the series, the two openly gay actors share a meaningful gaze, triggering a torrent of memories surging forth—brimming with love, heartache, intimacy, and a whole lot of nudity.
Embarking on this exhilarating journey through history alongside Bailey and Bomer are Jelani Alladin, Noah J. Rickets, and Allison Williams.
Now, here is the exciting news! In a new teaser shared by Paramount+, the platform has finally unveiled the release date for this highly anticipated series.
Fellow Travelers will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime on October 27!
