The event paired Parsons School of Design students with HIV scientists to craft custom looks inspired by molecular research and personal stories of resilience. Each garment wasn’t just fabric, it was a living narrative, weaving together the science of HIV and the communities most affected by it.

Models walked the runway against a backdrop of AIDS Memorial Quilt panels, making every step a reminder of history and progress. HIV Unwrapped’s approach was bold: confront stigma by celebrating the humanity and innovation behind the science.

A Global Effort, A Local Spotlight

Though this was its New York premiere, HIV Unwrapped has already traveled the world with editions in Australia, Rwanda, and the UK. Its U.S. edition came to life with sponsorship from Gilead Sciences and partnerships with GLAAD, ASHM, EqualPride, and the CFDA. Fashion label Tanner Fletcher provided design mentorship, guiding students as they balanced creativity with advocacy.

“We loved getting to know this group of students, hearing about their stories, and sharing in their fashion interests,” the Tanner Fletcher team said. “Being part of such an inspiring project was a privilege.”
