Alex Newell Talks Pride Month, Filming in Capri, and Why Threesomes Aren’t a ‘Simple Favor’

Tony winner Alex Newell has never shied away from the spotlight—whether they’re belting on Broadway, stealing scenes on TV, or rocking a red carpet look that nearly shuts down the Met Gala. But in their conversation on the Pride podcast, Newell gets real about queer joy, Capri, and the favor they’ll never do.

“Threesomes? Never do that as a simple favor,” Newell joked. “It’s not simple—it’s convoluted.”

From breaking out on The Glee Project to making Broadway history with their powerhouse performance in Shucked, Newell is a force—onstage, onscreen, and, as we learned on the podcast, in a speedboat to Capri.

“I did everything that I never thought I would do in life,” Newell said, laughing about filming A Simple Favor 2. “Getting on a boat to go to another boat to go to a restaurant? That was fun.” Newell revealed they nearly shut down an entire airport tarmac while filming. “I was just like, what is this? Oh, I have to go through security after I pee? Great. I love this.”

The A Simple Favor films follow the twisted, stylish world of mommy vlogger Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) and her glamorous, enigmatic bestie Emily (Blake Lively). The first film, released in 2018, became a cult favorite thanks to its unexpected plot twists, dark humor, and queer undertones. Now in the sequel, the chaos continues—this time in Capri—with even more murder, mystery, and martinis.

Newell plays Vicky, a character they say felt naturally aligned with their own vibe. “Someone that wants to go on vacation and drink three bottles of wine in one setting? That’s me,” they said. “Also, I love Paul Feig.” Feig, who executive produced Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, reconnected with Newell for the sequel, bringing queer energy and chaotic elegance to the screen once again.

Warning: Spoilers ahead. Newell also dived in to the mystery of it all, and claimed there is still so much we don’t know about this iconic franchise. “That relationship between Allison [Janney] and Elizabeth Perkins’ character? So crazed,” they said. “Also, I genuinely still don’t know who killed Henry Golding in the movie… and who takes care of Nikki now?”

The Power of Saying No

Newell’s journey has been nonstop since their early days on Glee, where they helped bring meaningful representation to primetime TV. “It wasn’t really just about being able to sing, dance, and act,” they said of the experience. “It was kind of like being able to give into the process… there’s such a freedom to that.”

That openness has served them well. Recently, they’ve wrapped Broadway, filmed a movie, released a concert on Audible, and graced the Met Gala steps in a Christian Siriano gown inspired by the legendary André Leon Talley. But even with all the hustle, they’ve learned when to say no.

“I had to turn down Glastonbury,” Newell shared. “I was on a mini tour with Clean Bandit in the UK and I got sick… But I do listen to my body. My body’s just like, no babes, we can’t do it.”

Speaking of saying no, we asked Alex what simple favor is too far and their answer was kind of iconic.

“Some simple favors you can agree to,” Newell said. “But some are not. Non-negotiables.” The one they’ll never do? “Threesomes. Never do that as a simple favor. It’s not simple—it’s convoluted.”

Still, they admit it’s part of the queer experience. “I think that is the bedrock of the LGBTQIA+ community. I think that’s what Pride is made of.”

Celebrating Queer Joy, Loud and Unapologetic

Going into Pride Month, the singer said they’re looking forward to having those tough conversations.

“I am looking forward to growing as a community, especially in these perilous times and what that means for us going forward. How we’ll rally and try not to be divided in a lot of things, even though some division is already starting to start, but how quickly we can shut that down. I’m excited for that conversation.”

Pop Icon Madonna Newest Celebrity to Rally Behind Trans Rights With ‘Protect the Dolls’ Shirts

0

Madonna is once again making headlines—not just for her music or tours, but for her unwavering support of the trans community.

On May 29, the pop icon took to X (formerly Twitter) to post a photo of herself wearing a black “Protect the Dolls” T-shirt, a bold fashion statement created by designer Conner Ives. Layered under a rosary chain and paired with a diamond necklace, the shirt was less of a wardrobe choice and more of a rallying cry.

With over 1.2 million views, Madonna’s post is more than viral—it’s a powerful act of visibility for a community under fire. Fans have flooded her comments with admiration for her unwavering love and support of LGBTQ+ community. One saying, “Thank you, this means the world, and you are an absolute ray of light.” Another quoting, “THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT WITH OUR COMMUNITY!”

What “Protect the Dolls” Really Means

The phrase “Protect the Dolls” is more than just a slogan. It’s a nod to the vibrant slang of 1980s Ballroom culture, originally popularized by Black and Latina trans women. In that scene, “the dolls” was an empowering term used to celebrate femininity, strength, and presence. Today, it’s embraced by many trans women and transfeminine nonbinary individuals as an affirming label.

By reviving the term in this new design, Conner Ives isn’t just selling T-shirts—he’s raising awareness and funds for trans-focused initiatives. The shirt made its debut at the close of his London Fashion Week runway show, and it’s since taken on a life of its own.

Celebrities Join the Movement

Madonna isn’t the only A-lister showing up for the dolls.

Actor Pedro Pascal, who has long been a vocal supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, recently wore the same shirt during his 50th birthday celebration. Among those in attendance were his sister, trans actress Lux Pascal, and trailblazing trans DJ Honey Dijon. The gathering wasn’t just festive—it was quietly political.

Australian pop star Troye Sivan, actress Tilda Swinton, and internet sensation Addison Rae have also been spotted donning the now-iconic design.

A Timely Message

As anti-trans legislation continues to rise globally, these moments of visible solidarity are more than symbolic. They serve as reminders that fashion, when paired with intention, can be a powerful tool of resistance.

And when Madonna, Pascal, and a parade of other stars wear a message loud and proud, the world takes notice.

Puerto Vallarta Leads The Charge as One of The Most Visited International Destinations for LGBTQ+ Tourists

As summer travel plans heat up, LGBTQ+ Americans are making bold, joyful choices about where they’ll explore next. According to Expedia’s latest LGBTQ+ Edition of the Summer Travel Outlook, queer travelers are booking both tried-and-true favorites and exciting new international destinations. With Puerto Vallarta, Mykonos, and Phuket leading the charge as beach getaways, and lesser-known gems like Gran Canaria, Sardinia, and Alicante gaining traction, the travel season promises a mix of nostalgia and discovery.

Classic LGBTQ+ Hotspots Still Reign

According to the report, iconic vacation spots remain high on the list. Puerto Vallarta, Key West, and Mykonos continue to draw LGBTQ+ travelers for their long-standing reputations as inclusive, festive, and safe destinations. Notably, Key West ranks as the top beach destination for LGBTQ+ Americans, with one in three respondents planning a visit there this summer. That figure outpaces even international LGBTQ+ staples like Phuket in Thailand and Cape Town in South Africa.

A new hotel even just opened in PV that many have been flocking to since. The Tryst Hotel is a new LGBTQ+ haven for those looking for a vacation.

Lifestyle influencers and husbands Taylor Phillips and Jeff O’Donnell shared their perspective: “Destinations like Key West, Puerto Vallarta, and Provincetown are stunning, spirited, and unapologetically welcoming. What ties them together is that unmistakable ‘come-as-you-are’ vibe that instantly makes you feel celebrated and at home.”

European Escapes On the Rise

While familiar beach spots are thriving, Expedia’s data shows a surge in interest for European destinations that are gaining popularity within the LGBTQ+ community:

  • Gran Canaria, Spain: +125% YoY search increase

  • Sardinia, Italy: +110% YoY search increase

  • Alicante, Spain: +70% YoY search increase

These data points indicate a growing appetite among American LGBTQ+ travelers for lesser-explored destinations that blend beauty, culture, and inclusive hospitality—especially in Mediterranean Europe.

Domestic City Favorites & LGBTQ+ Friendliness

When it comes to city breaks, Paris, Tokyo, and London remain top international picks, while Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Miami lead the U.S. list for being the most LGBTQ+ welcoming. New Orleans and San Diego are also climbing the ranks, beating out longtime favorites like Fire Island and Provincetown, signaling a shift toward a broader spectrum of domestic travel options.

Travel Habits and Spending Power

The Expedia survey revealed that LGBTQ+ travelers are among the most active and invested vacationers in the U.S. Some key insights include:

  • LGBTQ+ travelers take at least three trips annually, with an average annual spend of $3,775.

  • Nearly one-third spend over $5,000 annually on travel.

  • West Coast travelers spend the most on average ($4,098), followed by the Northeast ($4,031).

Luxury and comfort are top priorities, with nearly half of respondents preferring 4-star accommodations, and over a third choosing 5-star stays.

Travel Preferences: Chosen Family, Food, and Flexibility

Summer travel plans are as diverse as the community itself:

  • 66% of LGBTQ+ travelers plan to take a beach vacation this summer.

  • 49% are planning a road trip, a more popular option than city breaks or spa stays.

  • LGBTQ+ travelers are just as likely to travel with chosen family as with immediate relatives.

  • 50% plan couples’ getaways, while 20% often travel with their parents.

When it comes to activities, LGBTQ+ travelers are foodies first, with 41% prioritizing restaurants and bars, followed by shopping (36%) and LGBTQ+ nightlife (31%). Sports ranked lowest at 12%, showing a preference for culture and connection over competition.

Safety and Inclusivity Remain Crucial

Safety is a primary concern, with 39% of LGBTQ+ travelers stating it is a top factor when choosing a destination. More than half rely on word-of-mouth recommendations from within the community to decide where to travel.

Expedia spokesperson Melanie Fish emphasized the importance of inclusion:
“Here’s my number one tip when choosing your destination: check the ‘LGBTQ+ welcoming’ search filter on Expedia to find a hotel that has opted into our Inclusivity Pledge. It ensures a respectful and welcoming experience for all.”

Expedia’s LGBTQ+ Welcoming filter has seen a 155% increase in usage year-over-year, and over 40,000 hotels worldwide have signed on to the Inclusivity Pledge. These properties commit to zero tolerance for hate or discrimination and provide staff training in gender inclusivity, pronoun usage, and queer-friendly recommendations.

Pride Season Travel

With Pride events ramping up, 60% of LGBTQ+ Americans plan to attend a Pride celebration this year. Three in four will travel outside of their hometown to do so:

  • 47% plan to attend with friends

  • 15% will attend solo

  • 9% are bringing a parent

This reflects how Pride is evolving into not only a celebration but a meaningful opportunity for connection and family inclusion.

Smart Travel Tips for LGBTQ+ Summer Travelers

Expedia has also provided several travel hacks for LGBTQ+ vacationers to save money and avoid crowds:

  • Best Days to Fly (Domestically): August 19 and 25

  • Best Days to Fly (Internationally): August 18 and 23

  • Most Expensive Day: June 27

  • Quietest Days to Travel: August 25 and 26

To maximize value:

  • Use Price Tracking on the Expedia app for alerts on flight price drops.

  • Enable Price Drop Protection to automatically receive a refund if fares fall after booking.

  • Book through the app to access Flight Deals with savings of at least 20%.

  • Morning flights are less prone to cancellations—depart before 3 p.m. when possible.

Whether you’re headed to a legendary LGBTQ+ beach like Puerto Vallarta, exploring a rising star like Gran Canaria, or discovering queer-friendly cuisine in Tokyo, 2025 is the year to blend nostalgia with adventure.

And no matter where your summer takes you, Expedia’s latest insights show that LGBTQ+ travelers aren’t just planning a vacation—they’re planning experiences full of visibility, joy, and chosen family.

Exclusive: Betty Who Set to Bring the Heat with ‘Sweat’ with One Electric Performance at WorldPride

0

Pop darling, longtime LGBTQ+ ally, and self-proclaimed “Pride mother,” Betty Who is back—and she’s never looked (or sounded) better. The Australian-American singer-songwriter debuted her latest single, Sweat,” just in time for her headlining appearance at WorldPride, and it’s safe to say: the moment is hers.

From high-energy performances to heartfelt conversations about self-expression, Betty Who continues to be a glittering force in queer pop culture. But this time, the glam goddess turned director, dropping a steamy, low-budget music video that may be her most authentic work yet.

“Sweat”: A Deconstructed Pop Fantasy

“Sweat” is more than a summer bop—it’s a shimmering slice of synth-pop liberation. The track is bold, slick, and intentionally sexy, radiating the energy of an underground club anthem filtered through Betty’s signature lens of queer joy and emotional honesty.

But the accompanying music video? That’s where things get personal.

A post shared by Betty Who (@bettywho)

“I directed the video with my husband,” Betty told Gayety in an exclusive chat, revealing how stepping behind the camera helped her reclaim her creative power. “Music videos used to really stress me out. I’ve always known what I want my music to sound like, but visuals? That’s been harder.”

She continued, “So we said, what if it’s just sweaty? What if that’s enough? Let’s stop reinventing the wheel and just make something that feels good.”

The result is a gritty, gorgeous ode to body heat and confidence—complete with glowing skin, intimate framing, and just enough glam to remind you this is, after all, Betty Who.

Low-budget? Maybe. Low-impact? Absolutely not.

The Queen of Pride Hits Her Peak at WorldPride 2025

Performing at WorldPride 2025 felt like a full-circle moment for Betty, who’s spent the last decade building a deep, enduring relationship with LGBTQ+ audiences around the globe.

“WorldPride feels like a culmination of the last ten years of my life,” she said. “This is the mega Pride. I’ve been working my way up to this.”

Known for her electric stage presence and crowd-pleasing anthems, Betty’s WorldPride performance will not disappoint. The set was filled with fan favorites, emotional ballads, and a euphoric live debut of “Sweat,” all wrapped in high-energy choreography and infectious joy.

“Pride is about community. It’s about showing up for each other, celebrating yourself, and gassing each other up,” she said backstage. “That’s exactly what I try to write into my music.”

Betty also teased her upcoming “Out of the Darkness Tour,” a fitting title for a time she describes as challenging for the queer community. “Now more than ever, it’s so important to take care of each other. That’s the energy I’m bringing onstage. Pride isn’t just about partying. It’s about survival and love.”

Pop Star, Advocate, and Queer Icon

It’s no secret that Betty Who’s fanbase is full of LGBTQ+ listeners—and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

“There’s a section of pop culture that simply wouldn’t exist without the queer community,” she said. “And as I get older, I get gayer. I feel more myself now than ever.”

Her connection to fans is palpable. From emotional meet-and-greets to tearful sing-alongs, Betty knows how to create space for healing and celebration. “I love when people share their stories with me—whether it’s the best day of their lives or the worst. I’ve been there. I get it.”

That authenticity is part of what’s helped her sustain a dedicated fanbase for over a decade. From viral beginnings—remember the iconic gay Home Depot proposal video soundtracked by “Somebody Loves You”?—to major festival stages, Betty’s journey has always been rooted in community and connection.

“I was still in college when that proposal video went up,” she recalled. “The fact that it reached millions, that it mattered to people—that was the moment I realized music could really change lives.”

A Year of Releases (and a Lot More Sweat)

With “Sweat” now streaming and more new music on the way, Betty Who is entering a bold new era. Unlike the label-dominated delays of her early career, she’s embracing spontaneity and creative control.

“I used to overthink everything. Now, if I love a song, we finish it and put it out,” she said. “I want to have fun. I want to take risks. ‘Sweat’ scared me a little—and that’s how I knew it was the right song to release.”

From the basement studios of her early 20s to the global stage at WorldPride, Betty Who has become more than a pop star. She’s a symbol of queer resilience, artistic freedom, and heartfelt celebration.

As she said best: “If you see someone who needs help, take care of them. Offer them water. Ask where their friends are. That’s Pride. That’s what it means to show up for each other.”

And showing up is exactly what Betty Who does—onstage, on screen, and in our hearts.

Listen to “Sweat” now and catch Betty Who on the Out of the Darkness Tour this summer.

Taylor Swift Regains Full Ownership of Her First Six Albums

0

Taylor Swift has officially reclaimed her musical legacy.

After a years-long battle involving legal maneuvering, public outcry, and a slew of re-recordings, Swift now holds the master rights to her first six albums. The ownership shift was made possible through a new deal with Shamrock Holdings, putting a bow on one of the music industry’s most publicized artist-versus-label feuds. Importantly, Scooter Braun — whose acquisition of Swift’s masters sparked the saga — had no involvement in the recent agreement.

Swift announced the news in a letter to fans on her website, calling the moment “my greatest dream come true” and expressing gratitude for their loyalty throughout her journey.

A Dream Deferred, Now Realized

In her open letter, Swift reflected on the emotional toll the fight for ownership had taken, writing, “I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away. But that’s all in the past now.”

She also acknowledged the significance of fan support during this years-long battle: “I can’t thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now.”

Swift famously countered the sale of her masters to Braun’s company by vowing to re-record the original albums, thereby reclaiming both the sound and narrative of her early discography. The project has since produced four “Taylor’s Version” re-releases, each packed with “vault tracks” and fresh production.

Will We Still See “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)”?

Despite her progress, Swift noted she’s still not finished with the re-recordings. The most elusive project remains 2017’s Reputation — the defiant, armor-clad era born from media scrutiny and her high-profile fallout with Kanye West.

“The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life,” she wrote. “To be perfectly honest, it’s the one album in those first six that I thought couldn’t be improved by re-doing it… so I kept putting it off.”

While a snippet of “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)” recently appeared in The Handmaid’s Tale, Swift indicated the full album’s re-recording may be paused — or possibly shelved altogether. However, she hinted that unreleased songs from that era may still be shared: “If you’re into the idea.”

She confirmed that her self-titled debut album has been re-recorded and is awaiting the right moment to be reintroduced: “Those two albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right.”

Fan Reactions: “She Owns It All Now!”

Swifties across social media erupted with joy and emotional tributes. X (formerly Twitter) was ablaze with comments like “TAYLOW OWNS ALL HER MASTERS” and “Genuinely happy for her,” with fans celebrating not just a legal victory, but a full-circle moment of artistic liberation.

Others applauded Swift for setting a new industry standard. “She changed the game,” one post read. “This is how you fight the system and win.”

A Legacy on Her Terms

Swift closed her letter with a hopeful tone, emphasizing that future releases would no longer be tinged with past wounds: “It will just be a celebration now.”

From heartbreak anthems to industry power moves, Taylor Swift is once again the author, and now the rightful owner, of her story.

Tia Carrere Celebrates Her Son Jude Coming Out as Transgender: “He’s Living His Truth”

Ohana Means Nobody Gets Left Behind

Tia Carrere just reminded us all what “ohana” really means.

In an exclusive chat with PEOPLE, the Wayne’s World and Lilo & Stitch star opened up about her 19-year-old son Jude coming out as transgender. And honestly, her genuine support has us feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

Jude Finds Happiness Out of the Spotlight

Carrere revealed that Jude, whom she shares with ex-husband Simon Wakelin, typically stays away from the bright lights of Hollywood. But he did step onto the red carpet recently for the premiere of Lilo & Stitch. Unfortunately, Carrere had to miss the big night—she was busy filming another project in the Philippines. (Talk about a busy schedule!)

While Carrere’s place is clearly on-screen, Jude prefers a quieter life. Hollywood might not be his scene, but he’s definitely making waves in his own way. Instead of acting or music, Jude thrives in art and working with animals. Carrere mentioned he’s great with animals and deeply creative. “I don’t know what career he’ll choose, but he’s got such a talent with animals,” Carrere proudly shared with PEOPLE.

Supporting Jude’s Authentic Self

What matters most to Carrere is Jude’s happiness and comfort. “He’s incredibly clear about who he is and he’s genuinely happy,” she shared. For Carrere, seeing her son embrace his identity and live authentically is everything.

Carrere also praised Jude’s thoughtful nature. She described him as the unofficial therapist in his friend group. “He’s always the designated driver, always taking care of everyone else,” Carrere laughed. “That’s just Jude. He’s naturally caring.”

Tia Carrere’s Career Flourishes With Lilo & Stitch

Meanwhile, Carrere’s own career is taking off (again!), thanks to Disney’s blockbuster Lilo & Stitch remake. Carrere plays Mrs. Kekoa, a compassionate social worker. The movie is dominating the box office, earning a huge $341 million globally on opening weekend.

“It’s rewarding to portray someone real and relatable—not just glamorous,” Carrere noted.

Carrere’s Future Plans: More Acting, More Music

Looking forward, Carrere has no plans to slow down. Between new acting gigs and ongoing music collaborations with her Grammy-winning musical partner Daniel Ho, she’s excited about what’s next.

“I want to keep creating for decades,” she said enthusiastically. “Acting, singing—it’s all part of my passion.”

Clearly, Carrere and Jude truly understand what ohana is all about: loving and supporting each other, no matter what.

If You Want To Look Like ‘An Underpaid Cabana Boy’ Target’s Pride Collection is Perfect for You

0

Target just delivered quite the low impact pride month collection and people online are not shy of calling it out.

On user online named Connor Clary went on to blast the new selection of muted tones distributed by the retailer, which recently rolled back its DEI initiatives as of late with many pouring out their disappointment.

On a viral Instagram video, Clary went on to quip “Target’s annual Pride collection that we all love to hate has finally sashayed onto the scene. And much like their recent DEI policies, this year’s collection seems to be primarily centered on the color beige.”

He also went on to say, With this neutral colored clothing collection featuring thin rainbow stripes, because what could possibly scream ‘Pride’ more than dressing like an underpaid cabana boy to be murdered in the next season of White Lotus?”

Connor did not hold back on the collection being lackluster and also went on to criticize the other items aside from clothing in the lineup.

As if the fashion line wasn’t puzzling enough, Target has expanded its Pride collection to include items like teapots and mugs with rainbow handles. Clary humorously pointed out that these pieces “look extraordinarily uncomfortable to grab.”Indeed, the design choices seem more suited for a minimalist art gallery than a celebration of LGBTQ+ pride.

Surprisingly, the line also includes pet toys as well.

And if you think that was enough, Clary went on to even make an encore video poking fun at some of the products that could as he put it, basically end up in a landfill.

Target’s 2025 Pride collection comes on the heels of the company’s controversial rollback of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. In response to political pressures and a shifting corporate landscape, Target has scaled back its DEI efforts, including reducing the number of stores carrying Pride-themed merchandise and moving displays to less prominent locations. This retreat has sparked criticism from both LGBTQ+ advocates and civil rights groups, who view it as a betrayal of the community’s trust.

A post shared by connor clary (@connor.clary)

Target’s actions raise a broader question: Can a corporation truly support a community if its actions don’t align with its words? The 2025 Pride collection, with its beige palette and questionable product choices, seems to suggest that inclusivity is more about optics than substance. Without a genuine commitment to DEI principles, such gestures risk being seen as hollow attempts to capitalize on a movement without contributing to its progress.

Rebecca Black Finds Her ‘Salvation’ and a Fresh Beat in Queer Pop’s Future

0

Rebecca Black is back—and she’s not just reclaiming Fridays. The pop provocateur has ushered in a bold new chapter with SALVATION, a high-octane, genre-defying project that fuses rave energy, emotional release, and queer joy into one seven-track stunner. And if the sweaty dance floors she’s commanding are any indication, this is Black at her most powerful, playful, and self-possessed.

The Rebirth of Rebecca Black

Long gone are the meme days. Rebecca Black has carved out a place as a fearless creative force in pop music’s underground, blending fashion, queerness, and sonic experimentation with unmatched flair. With SALVATION, she doesn’t just push boundaries—she obliterates them.

This latest project is a shimmering collection of club-ready tracks that flirt with chaos, catharsis, and camp. Standouts like “TRUST!,” “Sugar Water Cyanide,” and the title track “Salvation” are pulsing with hard techno, Y2K electro nostalgia, and a deeply emotional undercurrent that hits just as hard as the beats.

“I realized my salvation was never something I had to find outside of myself,” Black has shared about the project. “It was already there. I just had to claim it.”

Dance Floor Deliverance

SALVATION isn’t just a sonic statement—it’s a cultural one. Black has taken her new sound to the people, headlining her own sold-out tour across the U.S., U.K., and Europe, and spinning DJ sets at some of the most buzzed-about events of the year. Her recent set at the 2025 American Music Awards after party had the crowd raving, literally.

She also made her Boiler Room debut—one of the most coveted co-signs in underground dance culture—and brought her pulsing pop vision to Coachella’s DoLab stage. Coming up, she’s slated to bring that same energy to Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Bonnaroo, and a lineup of Pride festivals that couldn’t feel more fitting.

Mainstream Meets the Margins

Black’s rise is unique in that it bridges two worlds: the gritty, glitter-drenched underground and the polished stage of pop royalty. She’s currently on tour with none other than Katy Perry and drag legend Trixie Mattel, proving her versatility as a performer and cultural connector.

Whether she’s belting over distorted synths or spinning euphoric techno to a sea of queers under festival lights, Rebecca Black is delivering a message of radical self-love and creative freedom. SALVATION isn’t just an album—it’s a manifesto for anyone who’s ever had to reclaim their own story.

Rebecca Black Is Just Getting Started

As she continues to define what pop can be in 2025, Black is doing it on her own terms—with sweat, sequins, and a beat that won’t quit. She’s not chasing validation; she’s offering liberation. And if SALVATION is the gospel, the club is her church.

You can find Rebecca Black at WeHo Pride’s OUTLOUD main stage on Sunday, June 1st.

Lorde Embraces Gender Fluidity and Creative Freedom in Powerful New Single ‘Man of the Year’

0

Lorde’s latest single, “Man of the Year,” released on May 29, 2025, marks a bold and introspective chapter in her musical journey. The track, the second single from her upcoming album Virgin, delves into themes of gender identity and self-discovery, resonating deeply with fans and critics alike.

A Personal Evolution

“Man of the Year” emerged from a pivotal moment in Lorde’s life. After attending the 2023 GQ Men of the Year Awards, she felt a disconnect with traditional femininity, prompting her to explore her gender expression more authentically. Collaborating with producer Jim-E Stack, she began crafting the song the following day, channeling her experiences and emotions into the music. In an interview with GQ, Lorde shared that the song reflects her journey toward self-acceptance and embracing her multifaceted identity.

Musical Composition and Reception

“Man of the Year” is characterized by its minimalist production, starting with a simple bassline that gradually builds into a powerful anthem. The song’s structure, which eschews traditional pop song formats, has drawn comparisons to Lorde’s earlier work, particularly her cover of Frank Ocean’s “Solo” . Critics have praised the track for its emotional depth and vulnerability, noting that it encapsulates the essence of Lorde’s artistic evolution.

Visual Representation

The accompanying music video further amplifies the song’s themes. Directed by Grant Singer, the video features Lorde binding her chest and performing in a sand-filled loft, reminiscent of the New York Earth Room art installation. This imagery symbolizes renewal and identity transformation, aligning with the song’s exploration of gender fluidity.

“Man of the Year” serves as a precursor to Lorde’s upcoming album, Virgin, set for release on June 27, 2025. The album promises to delve deeper into themes of gender identity, body image, and self-empowerment. With tracks like “Shapeshifter,” “If She Could See Me Now,” and “Broken Glass,” Virgin is poised to be a defining work in Lorde’s discography.

Levi’s Launches Bold 2025 Pride Collection Celebrating Queer Joy and Safe Spaces

0

Iconic American denim brand Levi’s is doubling down on its longstanding support for the LGBTQ+ community with the launch of its vibrant 2025 Pride collection, unveiled just ahead of Pride Month. The bold new campaign, titled “Meet You in the Park,” serves as a heartfelt ode to the significance of safe spaces and communal joy within queer culture.

At a time when many corporations across the U.S. are retreating from LGBTQ+ causes due to mounting political pressure—particularly former President Donald Trump’s vocal opposition to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs—Levi’s is taking a resolute stance. The San Francisco-based brand is not only moving forward with its Pride initiatives but doing so with louder colors, deeper meaning, and a firmer commitment to equality.

A Rallying Cry for Community

The “Meet You in the Park” campaign taps into historic LGBTQ+ liberation symbolism while centering the emotional significance of gathering places. Parks have long served as pivotal meeting grounds for queer expression, activism, and solidarity. Levi’s aims to channel that history and energy into each stitch of its Pride collection.

“Levi’s Pride 2025 celebrates the collective strength of safe, inclusive spaces where LGBTQ+ individuals can truly be themselves,” the company said in a statement. “This collection empowers wearers to express their authentic selves while honoring the past and envisioning a more inclusive future.”

Designs That Speak Volumes

The 2025 Pride line features striking nods to queer history, most notably through the use of the inverted pink triangle—a once-stigmatizing symbol used by the Nazis to identify gay prisoners, now reclaimed as a fierce emblem of resistance and pride. The triangle appears prominently on a mesh top and graphic tee, blending historical reverence with contemporary style.

Among the standout pieces are:

  • A light-wash denim jacket emblazoned with the statement “I Know You Know” across the back,

  • The Pride Icon Skirt and Pride 468 Loose Shorts with vintage washes and signature black-and-pink Levi’s tabs,

  • A rainbow-patched bandana and matching canvas tote featuring a kaleidoscope of inverted triangles in bold hues.

But Levi’s isn’t stopping at apparel. In collaboration with San Francisco-based queer tattoo artist José Luis Sanabria of Castro Tattoo, the brand is also introducing a limited-edition collection of eight custom embroidered patches. These pieces—crafted under the Levi’s Tailor Shop line—fuse the artistry of tattoo culture with fashion, offering fans a fresh way to personalize their denim while uplifting LGBTQ+ creatives.

“Sanabria is revered in the Queer community for creating a safe and inclusive space where individuals can explore self-expression through body art,” Sourcing Journal noted in its coverage of the collaboration.

Corporate Allyship That Walks the Walk

Levi’s continues to stand firm in the face of right-wing pressure campaigns aimed at eliminating corporate DEI programs. In April, the company’s shareholders overwhelmingly rejected a proposal to dismantle Levi’s diversity initiatives. According to Sustainability Magazine, less than 1% of stakeholders voted in favor of the proposal, which had been submitted by the conservative National Center for Public Policy Research.

Levi’s resilience in the face of such opposition underscores a legacy of LGBTQ+ advocacy that stretches back decades. The brand’s internal policies and public campaigns alike have consistently supported queer employees and communities. In addition to the Pride collection, Levi’s contributes an annual $100,000 to Outright International, a nonprofit organization advancing LGBTQ+ human rights worldwide.

A Pride Collection With Purpose

While many brands treat Pride Month as a seasonal marketing opportunity, Levi’s has demonstrated a year-round commitment to LGBTQ+ visibility, rights, and expression. In a climate where corporate support can feel performative or precarious, Levi’s 2025 Pride campaign is both a fashion statement and a cultural declaration.

The full Pride collection is now available for purchase through Levi.com and select retail locations.

Whether you’re marching in a parade, dancing in the park, or simply living your truth, Levi’s invites you to wear your pride—not just on your sleeve, but all over.
