NeNe Leakes is officially returning to Bravo, marking her first on-screen appearance with the network in six years, but longtime Real Housewives of Atlanta viewers should temper their expectations.
According to reports, Leakes, 58, will appear in Bravo’s upcoming anniversary spinoff, The Real Housewives: Ultimate Road Trip, a series designed to celebrate two decades of the franchise. While her presence is expected to be noticeable, it won’t come with a full-time peach or a season-long arc.
A Strategic Stop in Atlanta
Sources indicate that Ultimate Road Trip will follow a rotating group of Housewives as they travel across the country, with different cities serving as themed stops. Leakes is expected to appear during the Atlanta portion of the journey, aligning with her long-standing ties to the city and the franchise that made her a reality TV powerhouse.
She is not expected to participate beyond that segment, and she will not be part of The Real Housewives of Atlanta season 17 cast. Bravo has not confirmed casting details, and representatives for both the network and Leakes have yet to comment publicly.
A Milestone Series for the Franchise
The project was first announced at BravoCon 2025, where executive producer Andy Cohen teased a major crossover event tied to the franchise’s 20th anniversary.
“Ultimate Girls Trip is back, and this time it’s on Bravo,” Cohen told the crowd at the time. He described the concept as a nationwide journey through Housewives history, blending familiar cities with surprise appearances from stars past and present.
The show is set to begin in Orange County, California, where The Real Housewives first launched, before heading east with multiple stops along the way.
Bravo and Peacock Unscripted chairman Frances Berwick called the series “a love letter” to the women who helped shape reality television, crediting the franchise with elevating women’s voices while creating moments that have become pop culture shorthand.
NeNe’s Complicated Bravo History
Leakes joined The Real Housewives of Atlanta when it premiered in 2008 and quickly became one of the franchise’s most recognizable figures. She remained a central presence for seven seasons, stepped away during season 8, and later returned for brief appearances before exiting for good in 2020.
Her relationship with Bravo grew tense after she filed a lawsuit against the network in 2022, alleging discrimination and racism. The legal dispute cast doubt on whether viewers would ever see her back in the Bravo universe.
Despite that history, Leakes has repeatedly hinted that a return wasn’t entirely off the table, under the right circumstances.
“If the opportunity was right and the check was on point, why not?” she said in early 2025 when asked about returning.
Later that year, she made it clear that a scaled-down role wouldn’t interest her long term. “I don’t know that I would be a friend,” she said on the Humble Brag podcast, questioning the idea of returning without full status.
Not a Comeback, But Not a Goodbye
Rumors swirled last summer that Leakes might rejoin RHOA for season 17, speculation she quickly shut down by stating she was never contacted by producers. That made this Ultimate Road Trip appearance all the more unexpected.
While fans hoping for a permanent return may be disappointed, her inclusion signals a shift, and perhaps a cautious reopening of the Bravo door.
For a franchise built on nostalgia, conflict, and legacy, even a brief NeNe moment may be enough to spark conversation, and remind viewers why her name still carries weight in Housewives history.
