Perez Hilton is receiving medical treatment after authorities responded to his South Florida home Tuesday night following a mental health crisis that unfolded during a social media livestream.
The 48-year-old entertainment personality, born Mario Lavandeira, was taken to a local hospital after the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple emergency calls from viewers concerned for his safety.
On Wednesday, Hilton’s family shared an update confirming that he remains under medical care while expressing gratitude for the support that has poured in from fans and friends.
“We can confirm that Perez is receiving medical care, and our family’s focus right now is on his well-being,” the statement said. “We kindly ask that you respect Perez’s privacy, as well as the privacy of his family, during this difficult time.”
Law enforcement said deputies responded after receiving reports of an individual appearing to harm himself during a livestream. Upon arriving at the residence, officers worked with family members and used crisis intervention techniques before the situation was resolved without further incident. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported Hilton to the hospital, while crisis response specialists also assisted those at the scene.
Hilton’s management team, Golden Artist Entertainment, echoed the family’s request for privacy, saying its priority is his health and recovery and that no additional updates on his condition are being shared at this time.
“We are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from fans, friends, and members of the media. We respectfully ask that everyone continue to honor his privacy while he receives the care he needs.”
A pioneer of celebrity blogging in the early 2000s, Hilton built one of the internet’s most recognizable entertainment websites before expanding into podcasting, social media and television appearances. Over the years, he has also spoken publicly about evolving beyond the more confrontational style that defined the early days of his career.
The hospitalization follows a difficult year for Hilton’s health. He previously revealed that he had been treated for severe sepsis before undergoing emergency surgery several weeks later to remove a blood clot. After a lengthy recovery, he told followers this spring that he was gradually regaining his strength.
More recently, Hilton documented a major life change by relocating with his three children from Las Vegas back to Miami, describing the move as an opportunity to prioritize family and his overall well-being.
