The zodiac gets a queer reinvention in The Queer Zodiac, a visual art project created by queer artist YANN (@yannhatchuel), photographer Thomas Mundell (@mundellmodernpixels), 3D artist Aquariux (@cryptoquariux), and graphic designer Safira Azul (@safiraazul).

Through cinematic, editorial portraits, each zodiac sign is reinterpreted as a living, breathing character, combining mythology with modern queer style. The series celebrates desire, identity, and self-expression with bold fashion cues, think harnesses, jockstraps, bodysuits, and other symbols of queer nightlife and intimacy.

“It was incredibly exciting to build and collaborate on a new visual language with Thomas, Aquariux, and Safira Azul, one that honors the past while putting our own spin on it,” YANN said. “The Queer Zodiac is our way of taking inherited symbols and letting them hold queer bodies, queer desire, queer tenderness, and queer power without apology.”

Fashion as Visual Language

The styling draws on queer design traditions and fetish-inspired fashion. Designers like Kennie Mas, Uriel Urban, and Michael Sui (Panda7Inc) contributed, and the team ensured all participants identified as LGBTQ+.

Each outfit goes beyond aesthetic, becoming a visual language. Mundell explained, “At this point, I do anything that YANN asks me to do… I trust his vision and our ability to execute it in a perfectly collaborative way!”

Aquariux, who has a deep personal connection to astrology, said, “To create a body of work that brings together a subject I love with elements so central to my identity felt incredibly meaningful, and it was an honor to explore that intersection through this project.”

Safira Azul added, “I love incorporating homoeroticism into my work, so taking part in this project was a lot of fun for me and resulted in something really satisfying. Yann was very open to our ideas, just as we were to his, and the final piece really reflects that.”

Rewriting the Stars

The Queer Zodiac positions the body as both canvas and archive. It invites audiences to see the zodiac not as abstract celestial signs but as intimate portraits shaped by collective memory, queer glamour, and the gaze of those who live unapologetically.

By reframing astrology’s archetypes, the project emphasizes permission over prediction, permission to perform, transform, and become. The series sits at the crossroads of fine art, fashion, and contemporary queer culture, offering work that is confrontational, tender, and celebratory in equal measure.

Whether viewed as mythology or a mirror of queer life, the portraits redefine the zodiac for a new generation, turning the stars into symbols of power, desire, and community.
