If you’ve been missing the sharp banter, royal tension and slow-burn romance that made Red, White & Royal Blue a breakout queer hit, there’s good news from across the pond, and across the aisle.

Production is officially underway on Red, White & Royal Wedding, the sequel to Amazon MGM Studios’ 2023 rom-com that turned Alex Claremont-Diaz and Prince Henry into modern queer icons. The update arrived Monday via Instagram, where stars Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine popped up in a behind-the-scenes video confirming cameras are rolling once again.

The short clip, shared by the film’s official account and Prime Video, opens with the duo greeting fans as if no time has passed. Galitzine, returning as the reserved British royal, offers a warm “Welcome back,” while Perez quickly jumps in to clear up a key detail about the sequel’s title.

According to Perez, the “wedding” referenced in Red, White & Royal Wedding does not belong to Alex and Henry, at least not yet. Instead, the event centers on Princess Beatrice, Henry’s younger sister, played by Ellie Bamber. Galitzine reinforces the clarification with a grin, joking that viewers shouldn’t get ahead of themselves. Any royal walk down the aisle for the central couple, he adds, remains firmly in the future.

A New Chapter, Familiar Heart

While plot specifics remain tightly guarded, the sequel reunites much of the creative team behind the original film. Casey McQuiston, who authored the 2019 novel that launched the franchise, co-wrote the screenplay alongside Gemma Burgess and Matthew López, who wrote and directed the first movie.

This time, directing duties shift to Jamie Babbit, whose cult-classic But I’m a Cheerleader helped define queer cinema for a generation. Babbit said returning to this fictional universe feels timely, especially given the appetite for stories rooted in hope.

“We all need this kind of optimism, fantasy and gay joy,” Babbit said in a statement announcing the project.

López, now serving as producer and co-writer, echoed that enthusiasm, noting that expanding Alex and Henry’s story felt like a natural next step. He added that Babbit’s comedic instincts and perspective made her an ideal fit to guide the sequel.

Why the Sequel Matters

Red, White & Royal Blue quickly became one of Prime Video’s most talked-about releases, praised for centering queer romance without tragedy while still allowing its characters depth and conflict. The chemistry between Perez and Galitzine fueled fan devotion, while the film’s blend of political fantasy and heartfelt intimacy carved out its own lane within the rom-com revival.

By shifting the focus to a royal wedding rather than repeating the original enemies-to-lovers arc, Red, White & Royal Wedding appears poised to explore how Alex and Henry navigate public life, family expectations and evolving power dynamics, all without losing the humor that made their story resonate.

For now, fans can celebrate one simple fact: the suits are back, the accents remain intact, and the love story isn’t finished yet.
