Stepping into The Shrine, the energy in the building was immediate. Everyone in line was buzzing, ready to catch Slayyyter on the first night of her two-night, sold-out run in Los Angeles. Before heading into the crowd, we hit the merch table (I have to see what fun collectables I’m working with). The line moved quickly, giving us just enough time to look over the options. One shirt stood out right away: a black tee featuring a cropped photo of Slayyyter positioned under a line of shot glasses, paired with chicken-scratch handwriting reading, “I get so gay off that tequila,” oh yeah, I know exactly what I’m buying. The line comes straight from her hit track “CRANK,” so it was a no brainer for to snatch it up.
With merch secured, we moved into the main hall to find a packed room. We snagged a spot toward the inner left side of the room, standing among a sea of fans ready for the bass to drop.
A Dramatic Entrance in Los Angeles
The lights cut out, and deafening screams filled the hall (my knees start to buckle a bit too if I’m being honest). Strobes flashed across the ceiling as her band walked out and took their positions. Onstage sat a makeshift St. Louis building set piece, and its interior lights flickered to life. The front door swung open, and Slayyyter stepped out into the spotlight, instantly sending the audience into a frenzy.
She kicked off the set with “DANCE…”, instantly getting the entire floor jumping and singing along word-for-word. She commands the stage with an effortless swagger, rocking a massive hat with her curled hair flowing behind her. Watching her shift from a smooth sway into a sharp pivot to match the rhythm was a treat. Beyond the high-concept visual aesthetics, her live vocals truly anchor the show. She poured out impressive riffs over the heavy instrumentation, proving her raw talent matches her pop presence.
Singing Every Word to “CRANK”
I nearly lost my mind a few tracks later when the intro to “CRANK” started playing. That track has been my go-to gym motivation, the song that gets my friends moving at the bar, and the exact tune that puts a stride in my step on sunny morning coffee runs. Hearing it live was everything I wanted (and more).
The crowd shouted the lyrics back so loudly that Slayyyter’s microphone was almost drowned out. I was bouncing right alongside thousands of other people, absorbing the sheer noise in the room (the floorboards were literally shaking, a 9.0 on the Richter Scale). Onstage, Slayyyter was headbanging through the beat drops and pacing back and forth, holding the audience in the palm of her hand. I could’ve listened to her perform that at least 10 more times, inject that s— in my veins!
Closing Out Night One
The entire evening carried a wild, communal energy. Being surrounded by fans who were fully invested in every moment made the experience hit even harder. To wrap up the main set, she delivered a punchy back-to-back finale of “brand new chanel$” running straight into “BEAT UP CHANEL$”, bringing the room to a final high point before the house lights came back on.
I walked out onto the street wanting to keep the party going. Slayyyter has a distinct star power, and if night one at The Shrine showed anything, it’s that her live show is built to last. I am already counting down until the next tour.
