A doll collector based in Texas has become an internet sensation after unveiling his latest, and arguably most ambitious, acquisition: a life-size, hyper-realistic silicone doll of former Superman actor Henry Cavill. The collector, James Robertson-Reavis, spoke exclusively with Queerty about the shocking addition to his already extensive collection.
An Obsession on a Grand Scale
Robertson-Reavis is no stranger to collecting; he told Queerty he has “thousands” of dolls, with his hobby dating back to 1991. Beyond his love for collectible figures, the Texan is a multifaceted personality, known also as a singer, a dedicated Disney enthusiast, and a tribute artist for icons like Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, Robertson-Reavis is a self-professed “big fan” of the British actor known for roles in Man of Steel, Justice League, and The Witcher.
Robertson-Reavis decided it was time to elevate his collection from ordinary to extraordinary by commissioning a full-size replica of his favorite star. He turned to Steve Davies at SD Sculpt & Design in England to undertake the demanding work, a detail first reported by Queerty. The company later shared a video of the finished product on social media, which quickly drew attention for its uncanny realism, including meticulously placed hairy arms and chest.
Going Viral in Texas
Robertson-Reavis is reportedly “delighted” with the finished figure. His fandom for Cavill, he told Queerty, stretches back to when he first saw the actor in the 2007 fantasy film, Stardust.
Once the life-size figure was complete and in his possession, Robertson-Reavis took to TikTok to share some “making-of” videos, which have gone viral online. The sheer realism of the doll sparked a lively discussion online, with many commenters jesting that a doll so lifelike eliminated the need for a real-life boyfriend. Given the realistic nature of the figure, many online spectators also wondered about the doll’s anatomical accuracy, a question later addressed by Robertson-Reavis.
Robertson-Reavis is openly gay and married. He and his husband of 13 years now have the imposing Cavill doll residing with them in Texas. But simply owning the life-like silicone figure was not enough. Robertson-Reavis has since created a dedicated Instagram account for his prized possession and has even utilized AI to “bring it to further life,” depicting the doll in various everyday, roommate-like situations.
Anatomically Correct, But Not a Sex Doll
Speaking to Queerty, he stated, “I do own several Halloween animatronics, but only Henry, as far as life-like figures.”
When asked if the doll was purely for display, Robertson-Reavis explained his vision. “We bought him to display and use for Instagram,” he clarified. “A kind of roommate situation; life with Henry, in a way.”
One TikTok video, showing the doll without clothes during its construction, featured a Superman logo strategically placed over the groin area. This raised questions about what might be concealed beneath the logo. Robertson-Reavis put the speculation to rest, telling Queerty: “He is anatomically correct but not a sex doll.” He further clarified that the figure is not designed per se as a sex doll, noting, “I have added additional silicone ‘pieces.’
Navigating the Ethics of AI
“I can see there being a possible issue with celebs who are deceased because they can’t give consent,” he acknowledged to Queerty. “But for living celebs who are in the public eye… If we aren’t using AI to deceive or con, I don’t see the harm in personal use.”
He concluded his thoughts saying “We are a society that loves our celebrities and we all have that desire to know them, meet them, even love them. If AI can make dreams come true in a small way, I don’t have a problem with it.”
