Tommy Do isn’t confirming anything just yet, but he’s clearly excited about the future of Overcompensating.

At the premier of People We Meet on Vacation, the actor chatted with Gayety about speculation surrounding a potential second season of the comedy series and whether he might return, offering fans a hopeful, if vague, update. While no plot details, production timelines or casting confirmations have been announced, Do suggested that a comeback isn’t out of the question.

“The rumor is maybe, maybe, maybe,” Do said with a laugh when asked about his involvement in Season 2. “I’m so excited for season two. It’s going to be so funny. So, so, so good.”

Overcompensating debuted to strong buzz, particularly among LGBTQ audiences drawn to its humor, self-awareness and character-driven storytelling. The series centers on Benito Skinner’s character trying to navigate college, a sharply written lead whose attempts to project confidence often mask deeper insecurities – a theme that resonated with viewers navigating identity, ambition and self-expression.

Do praised creator and star Benny for shaping the show’s voice and success. “Benny’s so great,” he said, crediting the show’s tone and comedy to its creative leadership.

Although the actor stopped short of confirming his return, his enthusiasm for the series’ continuation was clear. When asked what he would like to see in a potential second season, Do joked about taking the show in a dramatically different direction.

“I think I want, instead of college, to be on the Star Trek ship,” he said. “Why not?”

While clearly tongue-in-cheek, the comment reflected the playful spirit that helped define Overcompensating in its first season. Fans online have similarly embraced the show’s willingness to lean into absurdity while still grounding its humor in emotional truth.

At this point, no official announcements have been made regarding Season 2’s storyline, filming schedule or returning cast. Still, the show’s growing popularity has fueled optimism among viewers hoping for more episodes, and more of Do’s character.

“Take a crazy chance,” Do added. “Yeah, take a crazy chance.”

For now, fans will have to wait for concrete news. But if Do’s comments are any indication, the door remains open — and excitement around Overcompensating Season 2 is already building, even without confirmed details.

People We Meet on Vacation streams on Netflix on January 9th.
