Troye Sivan is back, and he brought our AMC concierge icon Nicole Kidman and Drag Race superstar Sasha Colby along for the ride. The pop star officially launched his next era on Friday with the release of his new single, “She’s the Best,” and there’s a lot of incredible visuals to accompany it with the sizzling music video that dropped alongside it.

The visual, directed by longtime collaborator Gordon Von Steiner, sets Sivan in a dimly lit, high-energy drag club. Sivan commands the main stage, crooning lines like, “That girl, that girl, wow, that girl/She’s the best.” Meanwhile, Kidman struts into the venue (calm and cool as ever) in an all-black ensemble, sipping a drink and blowing cigarette smoke from the crowd. By the end of the clip, the fellow Australian actor hits the dance floor, joining forces with Sivan while he performs in full drag.

“’She’s the Best’ is a painting that captures my life in all of its moods and colours,” Sivan said in an official statement. “It explores the high-octane highs of the last few years, and the solitude and longing that sat underneath. It’s chaotic, layered, organic, troubled and alive. It feels like the truest and most creative version of myself I’ve ever shared.”

Sivan added, “At some point along the way I realised – the only constant in my life keeping me somewhat sane has not been the work, or the men, but the feminine. Thank god for them.”

A Star-Studded Reunion

Kidman’s appearance marks a reunion for the two Australian artists. They previously shared the screen in the 2018 drama Boy Erased, which also featured Sivan’s track “The Good Side” on its soundtrack.

This isn’t Kidman’s first rodeo in the music video world, either. The actor previously starred alongside Robbie Williams in their 2001 duet “Somethin’ Stupid,” and made her video debut way back in 1983 at age 15 in Pat Wilson’s “Bop Girl.”

The visual framework for “She’s the Best” builds on the aesthetic Von Steiner previously crafted for Sivan’s 2023 album Something to Give Each Other, having directed the clips for “Rush,” “Got Me Started,” and “One of Your Girls.”

New Album On The Horizon

The new track acts as the title song for Sivan’s fourth studio record, scheduled to drop on October 9. Sivan co-wrote the single alongside Jack Antonoff, George Daniel, Leland, and Kaeyln Behr. Production duties were handled by Sivan, Daniel, Antonoff, and Styalz Fuego.

The upcoming LP arrives after a massive run for the singer. Following his 2023 release, Sivan spent much of the past year on the road for the SWEAT tour, a joint arena run across North America co-headlined with Charli XCX to celebrate their respective projects.

With a full record landing this fall and a visual co-starring drag royalty alongside one of Hollywood’s biggest actors, Sivan’s latest era is already off to a wild start. Check back for more updates on the album release, and get ready to stream the project on October 9.
