Benito Skinner and Mary Beth Barone just proved, once again, that Halloween belongs to them.
The Overcompensating co-stars and Ride podcast hosts unveiled their latest over-the-top Halloween looks on Tuesday, Oct. 28 — transforming into the animated duo from Disney’s Zootopia. Skinner, 31, stepped into the slick suit of Nick Wilde, the sly fox voiced by Jason Bateman, while Barone, 33, became the ever-optimistic bunny cop Judy Hopps, played in the film by Ginnifer Goodwin.
The pair shared a series of cinematic photos across social media, posing in full costume, prosthetics and all, inside a New York City subway station. The detail was so impressive that at first glance, fans could have mistaken them for live-action reboots of the 2016 animated film.
Skinner, who’s known online for his meticulous comedic sketches and drag-inspired transformations, also posted a TikTok video of the duo dancing in Times Square as a rotating camera captured a 360-degree view of their looks. The video was set to Shakira’s “Try Everything,” the upbeat anthem from the original Zootopia soundtrack. “Can we say something? Try everything :)” Skinner captioned the clip.
The timing couldn’t be more perfect. Their Disney-inspired homage arrives just one month before Zootopia 2 hits theaters on Nov. 26, 2025, making their costumes both a love letter to the original and a savvy pop culture moment.
Barone and Skinner’s friendship, and creative chemistry, has become a defining feature of their brand. From Ride podcast antics to their co-starring roles in the comedy series Overcompensating, the duo thrives on mixing humor, heart, and high production value. And Halloween, for them, has become an art form.
Skinner, who has built a devoted queer following through his character sketches and celebrity parodies, has a history of taking costume season seriously. Over the years, he’s gone viral for recreating pop culture moments, from Britney Spears’ 2007 MTV performance to Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala looks.
This year’s costume reveal comes amid a more personal chapter for the comedian. During an October 22 episode of Ride, Skinner shared that he and his longtime boyfriend, Terrence O’Connor, had split after nine years together. He described the breakup as “amicable,” saying, “We both just love each other so much and have so much love and respect for each other.”
Even amid change, Skinner’s creative spark hasn’t dimmed, and his partnership with Barone continues to deliver camp, comedy, and craftsmanship.
When it comes to Halloween in the queer pop-culture universe, Benito Skinner and Mary Beth Barone might just be in a league of their own.
