Demi Lovato brought a message of love, fun and sexual health to West Hollywood on Thursday night, debuting her steamy new single “Kiss” at MISTR’s first-ever National PrEP Day celebration. The pop star, 33, joined fellow celebrities, drag royalty, and LGBTQ+ advocates for the historic event at The Abbey, transforming one of L.A.’s most iconic queer spaces into a celebration of joy, empowerment and HIV prevention.
“Let’s make out, have fun and be safe with MISTR!” Lovato declared from the DJ booth, where she joined Diplo to premiere the track ahead of its official release on Friday, Oct. 10. The new song, accompanied by a seductive music video, is the third single from her upcoming album It’s Not That Deep, due out Oct. 24.
The evening marked the finale of a 10-day national campaign led by MISTR – a telehealth platform offering free access to PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), a once-daily pill or biannual injection that reduces HIV transmission risk by 99%. The campaign aimed to get 10,000 new people on PrEP by the following day.
Lovato, a longtime LGBTQ+ ally, said showing up for the event was deeply personal. “MISTR is doing incredible work for the community,” she told photographers on the blue carpet. “Everyone’s health care should be accessible and affordable, especially when it comes to life-saving medication like PrEP. It’s so important to talk about sexual health so that we’re looking out for one another, and the queer community has done an incredible job at that.”

The celebration, emceed by Bob the Drag Queen, was a bold fusion of advocacy and entertainment. Dua Lipa, fresh off a four-night residency at the Kia Forum, delivered a surprise performance featuring fan favorites “New Rules,” “Don’t Start Now,” and “Houdini.” The Grammy winner had the crowd on their feet as she danced alongside drag stars like Aquaria, Plastique Tiara, Symone, Trinity the Tuck and Shea Couleé.
The guest list read like a who’s who of queer culture and pop music, with appearances by Cardi B, Kim Petras, Tamar Braxton, Matt Bomer, NeNe Leakes, Cynthia Bailey, Colton Underwood, Omar Apollo, and more. Behind the scenes, Diplo, SG Lewis, and Joey with the Mustache kept the vibes high with a rotating set of dancefloor-ready tracks.
Tristan Schukraft, founder and CEO of MISTR, emphasized the critical role PrEP plays in ending the HIV epidemic. “We can end HIV. We have the tools,” he said. “Being on PrEP is about taking control of your own sexual health—just like the birth control pill was when it came out for women. By taking PrEP, you’re doing your part to end the epidemic.”
Lovato, who married singer-songwriter Jordan “Jutes” Lutes in May, has made 2025 a comeback year—already releasing two other singles, “Fast” and “Here All Night,” from her forthcoming album. But Thursday night’s “Kiss” debut added a new layer to her musical evolution: confident, playful and unapologetically sex-positive.
