Hilary Duff is taking fans straight back to 2008, this time with a little help from ROLE MODEL.

The Lizzie McGuire alum recently teamed up with the 28-year-old artist to recreate her legendary anti-bullying PSA, the one that taught a generation why saying “that’s so gay” wasn’t cool. The original campaign, part of GLSEN’s “ThinkB4YouSpeak” initiative, became a viral moment of LGBTQ+ allyship long before social media made it easy to go viral.

In the newly posted clip, Duff and ROLE MODEL reimagine the ad nearly two decades later. The setup stays true to the original, Duff overhears a questionable comment and swoops in to educate, all with her signature calm-but-firm tone. The video quickly took off online, delighting longtime fans who remember her as one of the first Disney stars to speak out against casual homophobia.

From PSA Queen to Pop Culture Icon

Back in 2008, Duff’s “ThinkB4YouSpeak” spot aired on major networks and made her an unexpected LGBTQ+ advocate. In just 30 seconds, she managed to reframe a cultural conversation, a legacy fans still celebrate. Seeing her revisit it now, especially alongside a modern pop artist like ROLE MODEL, feels like a full-circle moment.

The “Good Sally” Tradition

The collaboration dropped just hours before Duff surprised fans at the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Texas, where she joined ROLE MODEL on stage. A recurring bit in his live shows tied to his 2024 single “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out.” Duff, 38, strutted on stage to cheers from the crowd, dancing with the singer as he shouted, “This is what dreams are made of!” cheeky nod to her 2003 pop anthem from The Lizzie McGuire Movie.

It’s not the first time ROLE MODEL has brought a celebrity “Sally” onstage. Past cameos include Natalie Portman, Reneé Rapp, Bowen Yang, Troye Sivan and Kate Hudson. Still, Duff’s appearance, blending nostalgia and pure fun, may be his most iconic yet.
