Two decades after a blonde wig changed her life, Miley Cyrus is revisiting the series that launched her into global fame. The pop star confirmed a long-rumored 20th anniversary special honoring Hannah Montana, set to premiere March 24 on Disney+.

“Going back to where it all began,” Cyrus wrote in a brief announcement teasing the project.

The special will be filmed in front of a live studio audience and promises a reflective look at the Disney Channel phenomenon that blurred the line between sitcom alter ego and real-life pop career. According to the streamer, the event will explore how the character of Hannah Montana was built, and why she still resonates.

Cyrus said in a statement that the role remains central to her story.

“‘Hannah Montana’ will always be a part of who I am,” she said. “What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans.”

A Sit-Down With Alex Cooper

Among the highlights: a conversation between Cyrus and Alex Cooper, host of the hit podcast Call Her Daddy. The interview is expected to touch on Cyrus’ complicated history with the role, her early fame and how her perspective has shifted with time.

The special will also include Cyrus reacting to standout clips, revisiting musical numbers and stepping back onto recreated sets, including Hannah’s famously over-the-top walk-in closet. Yes, the boots are back. A teaser shared online featured a car pulling onto a studio lot before cutting to black high-heeled boots with gold accents, a wink to the character’s signature style.

Streaming Marathon and Movie Throwbacks

Leading up to the premiere, Disney+ will roll out a 24/7 stream of the series beginning Feb. 19. All four seasons will air alongside both feature projects: Hannah Montana: The Movie and Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert.

For fans who grew up toggling between secret pop star and regular teen drama, the marathon offers a full nostalgia spiral.

From Distance to Gratitude

Cyrus’ relationship with the character has evolved. In her early twenties, she worked hard to separate herself from the Disney image that defined her adolescence. Over time, that resistance softened.

In a previous interview with CBS, she spoke candidly about the gratitude she now feels.

“I love her,” Cyrus said of the character. “She set me up for the life that I have now.”

The anniversary special appears to embrace that full-circle moment. Rather than distancing herself from the wig and glitter microphones, Cyrus is leaning in, not as a reboot, but as a thank-you.

Twenty years later, Hannah Montana remains more than a costume. For Cyrus and for a generation raised on “The Best of Both Worlds,” it marks the start of something bigger. The March special aims to celebrate that origin story, this time, without the secret identity.
