A Birthday Gift Turned Major Release
The song was first revealed last month when Miley gave it as a birthday present to her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who turned 64 on Aug. 25. Billy Ray shared the moment on Instagram, posting a clip of himself listening to “Secrets” while wandering through a field.
In the caption, he gushed about the gift: “For my birthday, Miley gave me the gift of music and wrote me a song called ‘Secrets’ and got my favorite musicians Fleetwood Mac to play on it! I love you Mile.”
The track carries an ‘80s rock flavor, built on shimmering guitars and a dreamy rhythm section. According to credits, Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood both play on the single.
Lyrics and Inspiration
“Secrets” explores trust, vulnerability and family bonds. Lyrics include:

Cyrus previously opened up about the inspiration behind the song during a June appearance on Monica Lewinsky’s podcast. She explained that it came from a period of tension with her father but ultimately became a way to mend their relationship.
