Wicked: For Good, the much-anticipated second chapter of the musical adaptation, soars into theaters this November. And yes, we’re already counting down: just 82 days, 17 hours, and 54 minutes to go!
To tide fans over, Universal Pictures dropped a fresh teaser showcasing our favorites, Glinda (Ariana Grande), Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), and, of course, Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey).
In the teaser, Glinda the Good has stepped into power after rejecting Elphaba’s offer to escape the corruption of Oz together. Instead, she remains behind, floating through the city in her signature bubble. But all is not rosy as tensions flare with her beau Fiyero, who pointedly tells the pink-clad witch, ‘You can’t resist this.’
“Who could?” she fires back.
“You know who could.”
Indeed we do! Elphaba has already refused the Wizard’s offer to rule at his side, leaving her exiled and branded as the Wicked Witch. We also get a look at what Elphie is up to, mainly teaching everyone a lesson on goodness.
“We can’t let good be just a word. It has to mean something.”
Not to mention, the entire trailer is once again backed by a rendition of “For Good.” This movie is going to destroy us.
“How can this look somehow better than part 1 when part 1 is the best movie ever made,” one user commented on the official Instagram.
“They need to get those awards ready for my girls. Yet another iconic movie,” another user wrote. We concur.
Following the record-breaking run of Wicked: Part One, the story now heads into its grand finale. Director Jon M. Chu returns to close out the saga, with the sequel set to deliver the kind of spectacle that could make Wicked the defining blockbuster of the holiday season.
The sequel brings back Erivo as Elphaba and Grande as Glinda, with Michelle Yeoh returning as Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard. Fans can expect jaw-dropping musical numbers, dazzling production design, and the emotional payoff of Elphaba and Glinda’s journey as their friendship — and rivalry — reaches its dramatic end.
Wicked is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, which retells The Wizard of Oz from Elphaba’s point of view. That book inspired the hit Broadway musical in 2003, featuring music by Stephen Schwartz and a script by Winnie Holzman. The stage show became a global sensation, and now the movies are bringing the story to life on an even bigger scale.
