It’s a rare morning in Los Angeles when Tucker Pillsbury, better known as Role Model, dresses for business instead of heartbreak ballads. Clad in a sharp black suit, the singer-songwriter strolls through a parking lot, tucking fliers under windshields that declare, “Role Model is certified sexy.”
The stunt marks a full-circle moment for the 28-year-old artist, who just landed a new title: PEOPLE’s first-ever Sexiest Man Alive centerfold.
“It feels amazing. It’s incredible. I’m honored,” he tells the magazine, smiling like someone who finally got the text back from an ex.

From Snubbed to Centerfold
Just a year ago, Role Model was on a playful campaign to win Sexiest Musician in PEOPLE’s annual readers’ poll. He made T-shirts, billboards, and even called in favors from tourmate Gracie Abrams. But despite his charm, fans crowned Harry Styles instead.
It stung, at least enough for Pillsbury to jokingly put PEOPLE on his “enemies list.”
Now, with his official centerfold debut, all is forgiven. “It’s like when you and a friend stop talking, and they finally text you a year later,” he said. “‘Hey man, happy birthday.’ That’s how this feels.”

A Year of Wins
This new title caps off what’s been a breakout year. Pillsbury’s second album, Kansas Anymore, earned him critical buzz and a viral moment thanks to the deluxe edition’s hit single, “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out.”
The song took on a life of its own during his live shows, where Role Model invites a surprise guest, dubbed “Sally,” to dance with him during the bridge. The list of SMC (“Sallys Most Cherished”) includes Hilary Duff, Natalie Portman, Charli XCX, Kate Hudson, Al Roker, and even his mom.

“I started playing it in Australia before it was even released,” he recalled. “Fans were already shouting the lyrics back. That’s when I knew something special was happening.”
More Than Just a Pretty Face
After his recent Saturday Night Live debut and the launch of a European tour, Role Model is settling into his new role as both heartthrob and headliner.
When asked what he finds sexy, Pillsbury doesn’t hesitate. “Confidence,” he says simply. “And not taking yourself too seriously.”

For someone who once turned rejection into a running gag, it’s fitting that Role Model’s biggest glow-up came wrapped in both humor and humility.
As he hands out those fliers around L.A., it’s clear he’s in on the joke, and enjoying every minute of it.
