Shakira is no stranger to spotlighting bold, genre-bending voices, and now, she has her eyes on one of our favorite pop stars: Chappell Roan.

In a new interview with Variety, the Colombian superstar revealed she’d love to collaborate with the breakout queer pop sensation, saying, “I would love to hear Chappell Roan on ‘La Pared.’ I think she would do an incredible rendition. Her voice and her artistry are incredible.”

It’s a match that makes perfect sense. Roan’s campy, theatrical pop has taken over 2025, while Shakira’s decades-long catalog has always thrived on reinvention and risk. A duet between the two would fuse eras and aesthetics, we need it now.

Looking Back, Moving Forward

The conversation with Variety marked multiple milestones for Shakira: the 30th anniversary of her breakthrough album Pies Descalzos and the 20th anniversary of Oral Fixation (Vols. 1 & 2). To celebrate, she’s re-recorded select tracks for Spotify’s Anniversary Series, teaming up with Ed Sheeran, Colombian artist Beéle, and a 14-piece string ensemble to reimagine some of her most iconic songs.

Shakira said returning to her early work reminded her of the freedom she felt when she first started out. “There was nothing to lose then, really, and there was a freedom in that,” she reflected. “Fans intuitively know what’s authentic and what isn’t… you may as well just be honest, real, and hope it connects.”

Shakira Reacts to Bad Bunny Super Bowl Show

In the same conversation, Shakira praised Bad Bunny’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime show, calling it “the perfect moment” for him to take the stage. “Acceptance of Spanish-language music as part of the mainstream has come so far from when I started,” she said. “I’m so proud that Bad Bunny… is getting to perform on the biggest stage in the world.”

Following the announcement of Bad Bunny’s show, a petition was started for country singer George Strait to take his place. The petition has over 50,000 signatures and credits “keeping the Super Bowl ‘family-friendly'” as its reasoning.

We can’t wait to see what Bad Bunny cooks up for the show! He’ll take the stage at the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
