Reality star Tiffany “New York” Pollard is speaking candidly about her relationship with gender identity, revealing that she identifies with the non-binary community. The House of Villains alum told PinkNews that her gender expression fluctuates, saying, “Some days I feel more masculine and sometimes I’m super feminine, and that’s OK.”
“I really resonate with non-binary because I feel like we are so dual without even recognizing it,” Pollard explained. “Because it takes two sexes for us to get here, so some days I may feel a lot more masculine.”
Her comments add nuance to her previous statements about queerness. In 2023, Pollard publicly came out as queer. She later described her sexual journey on The Jason Lee Show, noting that she has “lived a very broad life” when it comes to love and attraction.
Early Experiences Shaping Identity
Pollard reflected on her early experiences with sexuality, sharing that she had her first kiss with a girl in junior high. “You come out of that closet, and once you do it’s like, ‘OK, wow, this world is open to me in new ways and sweetie, shoving me back in the closet is never going to be an option,’” she said.
These formative moments, Pollard says, helped her understand herself and connect with the LGBTQ+ community, a connection that continues to define her public persona.
Hosting a Queer-First Reality Series
Tiffany Pollard serves as both host and executive producer of Slayers: Wheel of Fate on OUTflix. The show follows ten queer gamers navigating an immersive gaming competition, with a $25,000 prize on the line. Contestants encounter a mysterious castle, a villain named Queen Karen, and a dragon that “eats” eliminated players each week.
The all-LGBTQ+ cast aligns with Pollard’s long-standing bond with queer audiences, dating back to her breakout on VH1’s Flavor of Love in 2006.
“I feel like if I didn’t have such a strong connection with the queer fanbase that I have, I don’t know if I would still be in the game as prevalently as I am,” she said. “They keep the HBIC alive. I love to hear my sh*t recited.”
Why the Queer Community Connects with Pollard
Pollard suggested that part of her appeal to LGBTQ+ fans comes from shared experiences of being bullied or misunderstood in youth. “Well, look at me, am I not a drag queen? I was really bullied growing up, and I feel like the gays understand that and accept it and see me in a lot of them, and vice versa,” she said.
Her new show, she adds, is a celebration of this mutual connection. “To do a show like Slayers and to be involved, it was just like, sign me up. I was grateful to have the connection I do with my queer fanbase.”
