The Threesome isn’t shy about diving straight into the messy, complicated fallout of one impulsive night. The film follows Olivia (Zoey Deutch), Connor (Jonah Hauer-King), and Jenny (Ruby Cruz) as their wild hookup throws all three into the raw chaos of adulthood. But behind the scenes? Things got even messier.
I’m Allergic to Threesomes
When it came time to shoot the film’s big threesome scene, Hauer-King wasn’t just battling nerves — he was battling allergies.
Deutch revealed that the cast and crew discovered their set might as well have been a cat sanctuary. “Jonah had a severe allergy attack while we were shooting our sexy threesome,” she said. “It was also the last thing we shot together after we’d become dear, dear friends.”
Such good friends that Deutch and Cruz even played nurse for their costar. “We thought we were doing a nice thing going to CVS and getting him some medication. He took too much, then he was drowsy and falling asleep. He was so lovely and charming and made it through and was such a champ. But I felt really bad for him.”

Sneezing in the Sexy Scene
Jonah took it all in stride, joking about how unsexy the moment really was: “I was literally sneezing in their eye. It was bad. Luckily it was our final day and we were already close. If that had been on the first day… I honestly think I would’ve just had a total anxiety attack.”
At least he found the silver lining: “I’m allergic to threesomes,” he joked. So maybe don’t have one? Or do, just not during an allergy attack. It’s up to you.
Why You Should Watch
If anything, the behind-the-scenes drama perfectly mirrors the heart of The Threesome. It is messy, complicated, and hilariously human. And just like Jonah pushing through his sneeze-filled close-ups, the film embraces the imperfect, awkward, and beautifully real parts of intimacy.
Olivia, Connor, and Jenny’s lives unravel in surprising, sometimes heartbreaking, often hilarious ways. All of it is grounded by Chad Hartigan’s tender direction and a script that finds beauty in imperfection.
Alongside Deutch, Hauer-King, and Cruz, the cast includes Jaboukie Young-White, Josh Segarra, Arden Myrin, Julia Sweeney, and more.
